It's raining in London... again (RP)

Jena laughs a little, or at least cracks a smile, at your familiar joke. She barely glances at the kids and their discussion before shrugging. "Kids." She says. "I think they were part of the school tour? Troublemakers, for sure, but not for us where we are going."

She indicates the stairs —you know that she has resolved to not use lifts or escalators where possible (do you know/suspect why?). "We are going far down."

Mark walked on with Jena but continued the topic, "What are they talking about? Statues? Are they talking about something that has grown bigger? Did these kids go out in the morning for a school tour, perhaps?"

Rhiannon has a hard time holding Benji down though she is pretty strong. Whatever the case may be she makes sure that the vampire doesn’t bite her friend.

Jena glances distractedly down the corridor. "That's ... the Egypt section. Mummies I think," You know she uses phrases like 'I think' when she knows full well exactly where is there, it makes people less 'wigged-out' about her eidetic memory. "Though there are some statues around the corner. They got here around lunchtime, their activity involved the cafeteria, it was a fiasco. But most of them seemed to enjoy it well enough."

Mark felt an instinctual hunch to check it out. He stopped and turned, "Why not just take a look? Lets see what exactly changed and what happened with these kids."

He started walking towards the kids and took a serious but caring expression, "Children, what are you two arguing about at this time of the day?"

The boys look immediately guilty, and prepared to bolt. They are probably not supposed to be alone, or in the part of the museum that you thought was closed already, but running would prove they are guilty.

"Nuffin, mister." The first says, making 'mister' sound like a rude word. "Jus looking, init."

They are, indeed (don't doubt Jena's memory:) looking at a display of Egyptian Mummies.

Mark looked at the display of the mummy. "You know, kids, you are young and full of energy. Let me give you a life lesson. Truth is very hard to accept, but telling the truth knowing that it might be bad for you is a brave thing to do. Lies are easier and safer but the more you lie, the more you become dependent on it and you live with it's fear all the time that someone will find it out." He then looked back at the kid with a smile and asked, "Don't you want to grow up to be brave?"

He then gently said, "What were you discussing? Something growing bigger?"

"Who's lyin'?" The first kid bristles at your unfounded accusation and moves away from your hand, eyeing it suspiciously. "Was jus sayin' this mummy is bigger than the one that was 'ere last month. What of it? Gotta go, my mum's waiting" He says, though this last part probably is a lie.

Mark watched the mummy intently and tried to sense any residual magic from it. He turned to Jena and asked, "This arrived today? What can you say about it?"

"This display has always been here." Jena says, not really paying attention and looking pensive about the whole subject of lying.

"Always been here, init." Says the kids.

Mark turned to Jena and spoke, "Let's get to the room you told me about." He then turned to the kids and waved them goodbye. "You are not supposed to stay this late. Where are your parents? Get back to your home, it is getting late."

The boys give you a defiant look when you tell them to go home, but do make a show of walking off towards the main museum.

Jena and yourself head the opposite way, back towards the stairs. The door to the stairs makes a horrid screeching sound as Jena pushes though, but she pays it no mind, leading you down many flights of stairs —you are now well below the level of Thames— before pushing out into a sub-sub-basement. There is another squealing of the door up above as you exit.

Down here it is all ancient industrial structures —heavy, old, damp stone and iron— and Jena leads you to a room with a few metal tables in the center and kilns and fire-bricks in the corners.

"We should be safe in here." She says while hanging a simple 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the outer door. "Where's the rod?"

Rhiannon lends a hand

Rhiannon struggles, but manages to hold Benji down enough that his self-control wins the day and no one is hurt. Bev can finish what she needs to do.

"It was pretty scary there, for a while." Bev says with a grin at Rhiannon. "Good thing I had my super-woman protector here."

Bev seems more interested in Benji than afraid, it could have turned out very different under different circumstance. She is full of questions if you will allow them —medical school was an excuse to exercise her inquisitive mind— and she is particularly curious to know how long it will take Benji to heal the rest of the way, and wants to chart the progress.

"What is this stone?" She asks, poking at the bits of demon-fist she took from Benji's flesh, but being very careful not to touch it with her skin. "Look how it is turning the bloody water black."

Still not believing he's spending the morning talking to statues through an urchin, Jacob talks directly to the former prime minister, hoping that his sidekick will translate the response, if there is one.

"Mr. Churchill... err, I mean, sir," he starts, not even sure about the correct form to address a dead prime minister. "I'm looking for a special book, one with Byron's notes in it. I was told you may have information about it"

"He says he 'did not take Millie's book'. That that 'jest', er, 'lacks subtlety'?" The urchin says, looking nervous about the sterner tone they are getting from the PM.

Even if your sidekick does not know what you are talking about, it seems Churchill is well aware of the case of the missing book.

"Of course, I didn't mean to offend you saying otherwise, sir. But you surely know who took it, or where I can find it. You're clearly the most prominent figure in this square," Jacob replies, checking his theory that a dead politician is surely as egocentric as a live one.

Mark looked around the underground sub-basement with awe. "I have never thought that such a thing existed down the museum. You are good at these things, Jena; do you know if the museum was built upon some kind of ancient structure?" He moved around and inspected the walls and their integrity. "This is just the place we need. You never fail to fascinate me, Jena. How could I even work without you."

He took out the stave and gave it to Jena. Then, using chalk, he drew a large circle down on the floor while connecting lines and symbols to the wall, making elaborate goetic patterns. There will be quite a bit of arcane energy he would infuse in the circle to see the full potential of the stave and he will need to prepare for the worst. Satisfied with his protection circle and matching all the protection wards, he stood up and asked Jena to place the stave in the centre.

He started channelling his own power to bring up his magic.

With magical power coursing through him, he placed a shielding barrier on Jena and him. When he was clear that all arcane parameters were taken into account and the safe guards properly placed, he infused magical energies into the stave. He continued to increase the amount, knowing that his magic shielded both him and Jena. He also walked in front of Jena to stay as a human shield if something bad truly happened.

OOC: Channelling roll with 8 means 3 hold and I will take a corruption. Spending 2 hold to give Mark and Jena armour against anything that might cause damage.

"Says he 'exists only to serve'." Your translator says with doubt in their voice —probably due to the imperious cast of the face of the statue. "Says you 'are clearly a scholar and a gentleman', but he 'does not know where the book is, doubts any of them'..." ...by this he probably means the statues of Parliament Square... "...'took it. They have no way of hiding it, so the joke would fall flat in the three days since.'"

You knew it would not be as easy as just asking the people around her, else the task would not be worthy of bringing to you. If Churchill is to be believed he does not know what happened, and, in his opinion, neither do the statues around the square, though that last part is second-hand information (third-hand if you consider your translator).
