Varduhn
>>>"Do take care..." Varduhn cautions as the Adventurers stand up from the table.
"...tho I'm sure it's nothing." The old Apothecary didn't sound all that convincing.
BradL33
>>> "I've got us covered on lights." BradL33 announced as he fished his gnarled tree branch staff from his magic bag at his side.
"BUG LIGHTS!" he lifted the staff as a soft, diffuse light surrounded the Adventurers twinkling like a swarm of fireflies.
"Er...which way should we go looking?" BradL33 asked sheepishly.
Veskar
>>> Follow the path back that way..." the farmhand instructed, pointing with a toil-worn and knobby finger.
"...back past Varduhn's villa and turn left at the tree. The field wall will guide you to where Maxime was looking for them. No doubt he'll find you before you find him." With a gentle nudge from the older woman at his side, he hastily added,
"And thank you for your help."
>>>Away from the village and the sounds of people gathered, only the sounds of the wind creaking branches in the trees and the night sounds of the cicadas and the other (as yet unseen) insects dominated. The absence of the kind of noises the Adventurers would associate with the night were conspicuously absent; no cars, no muted sounds from a neighbor's TV, no loud cellphone conversations, no buzz of electric lines... Just the relative silence of a different world.
>>>The moon hung large and low in the sky, just a sliver past half full and shedding her silvery light onto the forests and fields when not behind the few clouds scudding across the sky. Behind that was a tapestry of stars unlike most of the Adventurers had seen in the 21st century sky. It almost didn't look real...but in the current situation,
real was an interesting word to contemplate.
>>> Veskar's directions weren't hard to follow. The layout of the village was fairly simple; a central hub of homes and village buildings surrounded by a half-circle of fields. The given direction led them out to the maze of low stone walls that were the boundaries of the AleBalm fields, breaking up the big swaths of orange flowers into manageable plots.
Guy GoodHeart
>>>"I hope this is just a 'Find & Escort' quest or the like." Guy mused out loud.
"Farmer Brown didn't have a glowing question mark or exclamation mark over his head, at least." It sounded like he was talking just to hear his own voice...or perhaps to calm his own nerves.
"Either way, I'm not sure what's worse, poking around out here in the dark or eating whatever that stuff was the village served. That was the most disturbing and questionable stuff I've ever put in my mouth." his armor clanked as a shiver ran down his spine.
"And they say English cooking is bad..."
Maxime
>>> "Extinguish your light and hold your tongue." a robust figure appeared along the path, crouched low along the stone fieldwall. The creamy fur of the Catfolk blended well with the color of the stone under the moonlight and the brocaded vest broke up enough of his body lines to work as effective camouflage in the dim lighting.
"There is something large stalking through the fields. I do not want it to see us until we can better tell what it is." He waved the Adventurers to take shelter along the wall with him.
"If it is what I fear... Well, we are all in great danger."
>>>In the distance, a couple of field plots away, a dark and indeterminate shape slouched through the fields cutting a swath of dark upturned earth in its wake. Guessing a distance in the dark was a gamble, at best, but the dark bulk seemed to be maybe 100-150 meters away and its slow trajectory was definitely towards the village.
Arga
>>>"Woah...that thing is HUUUUUGE!" the Sorcerer exclaimed as loudly as he could in a whisper. The dim light accentuated the flickering orange of his tattoos and the luminosity of his eyes as he poked his head above the stone wall for a second and third look.
