Since nobody besides Grace expressed interest, do you mind if she has the boots?

I'm fine with it. Raquel wants to know what the sword does. :D

@Legendary_Sidekick It's a really good comic. I was wondering what was your students' level, but then again the vocabulary is not too complex for beginner ESL learners.
@vyshian I used it for my ESL3 classes, but not ESL1. My Level 1 group includes some absolute beginners, many of whom have a Spanish- or Haitian-speaking tutor with them in their content classes.

Level 3 is the point where the students get an hour of ESL (instead of two) and an hour of ELA ("mainstream" English). It’s a simple text, and hopefully interesting and relatable enough that I’ll see some variety and insight in today’s essays.

Nothing jumped out to me, which is probably more a 'me' issue than anything else.

Work has tried to crush my soul lately. Our new hire has been out more than she's been present and I have to cover her position when she is out, while still doing my job as well. Of course since her position requires being at a specific desk, all the tools I usually work with are in another room and I cannot handle some of the documents because they are confidential and her desk is open.

I definitely understand the workload interfering with having any kind of free time. At least I get to enjoy the occasional downtime at work and I often post on GP then.

There's still about half of the items that haven't been ID's yet so maybe one of them might tickle Taylor's fancy. If not, there's probably shops in the City where you can find new gear.
Sep 20, 2024 4:15 pm
Since the Party is about to enter the City, that's a good place to pick up new players. So, unless anyone has any objections, I think I'll post up an opening and see if anyone else might like to join in. That sounds okay to everyone?

I’m good with it.

Oh—forgot to reply to that before.

Yes, recruiting new players is fine by me.

I'm good with that too.

I'm absolutely fine with new players joining :)

Thank you so much for the invite. I read through the first part of this OOC thread and looks like I have a ton of stuff to read up on.

Quick introduction of myself, I've been playing RPG since I was around 10 with the red box D&D set (still have the rules and the dice from that), played AD&D 1, 2, 3, 3.5 (life got in the way for about 20 years). Came back PbP around 6 months ago and have been really enjoying getting back into things. So I'm a long haired, scruffy, mid 50's "old dude" :) Not playing any MMO currently, but was heavily playing WoW for years, plus many other MMO along the way.

That about covers it. I don't usually play RPG with modern elements, but this concept really appealed to me.

Welcome, @DrifterDwarf! I never played an MMO (or D&D), but regardless, this game’s a blast! I think the most surprisingly humorous aspect is hearing NPCs saying "HP" and such, so gaming terms are used in-character.

My closest experience to an MMO was LARPing, and it was frowned-upon to say, "Watch out! That NPC’s sword swings for 6 Fire!" Playing a game where that’s normal/encouraged is awesome!

Witchdoctor supports the game with a ton of consistent art, which does not cease to amaze me. This is the only game where I used AI for my avatar (thanks to Brainiac), and prefer it just to kinda match the game’s artistic direction.

The game has an artistic direction. That blows me away!

What will your character be like?
Sep 21, 2024 2:24 pm
Thanks for the welcome. This game really is the opposite of how I normally play RPG. Normally it is about being "in character" as you said and keeping the meta gaming to a minimum, separating out of character game mechanics from in character. This is exactly the opposite, which is really what sucked me in.

What kind of character? Not 100% sure, but one thing common with my MMO and RPG characters is usually I go front line heavy armor. WoW my mains were all tanks (protection pally, warrior, bear druid) and my RPG are often melee clerics or fighters. I haven't looked over the skills yet, but if there is a skill to throw your shield captain america style, that might cinch it for me.

This is definitely a game where players (and to some extent NPCs) are aware of the 'video game logic' that drives the world. There are things that are 'character facing mechanics' like HP/MP, Aggro, Ability names, Class/SubClass, general MMO stuff, etc. but there's also 'player facing mechanics' that are mainly the Fabula Ultima mechanics like attribute die size, Bonds, Fabula Points, etc... Player facing mechanics are strictly an OOC element while character facing mechanics are freely discussed in character.

A LOT of this game is RP and exploring the ideas of what it means to be someone trapped in a new world, in a different body and in different circumstances. Are your circumstances better for being transported to a new world or worse? How do you deal with being cut off from everyone you've known outside of Elder Tales? What do you do when you're suddenly divorced from your burdens and responsibilities back on 21st Century Earth while also being suddenly bereft of its familiarity and comforts? How old were you when this happened and how do you deal with the loss of family? What does it mean to be an average gamer who suddenly gains superhuman abilities? These are the kinds of questions we'll explore while trying to find a new path in a familiar, yet still alien, world.

Hello world! Thanks a lot for having me along. I've got a lot of reading to do in not-a-lot of time, so I'm going to plunge in for now.

For the time being, I've got my tiny mechanical heart set on a Ritian Huckster with the Detective Subclass. Still gotta see if I can make that concept really shine though (and double-check the PC roster to make sure we're not drowning in Support).
Sep 22, 2024 2:11 am
Huckster isn’t in play yet, and I think class-wise we’re like 1 or 2 in each category. So as far as I’m concerned, just play the class you want.

…and welcome!
Sep 22, 2024 2:29 am
I'll get Huckster put in tonight. I've had the Class written up for a while but have been more focused on running the game than completing the Classes we weren't using. Summoner is incomplete, too, and I'll have it in ASAP.

Hucksters are a fun and quirky class since they rely on card-draw mechanics for their magic abilities. Let's hope GP's RNG favors you 😁

Character-wise, we currently have :
• a Catfolk Monk
• a Catfolk Pirate
• a Fox-Tail Cleric
• a Human Assassin
• a Human Bard

There's quite a a cast of additional Adventurers tagging along to fill some gaps in the Party so don't feel like you have to pick something just for Party balance. Play what you want and leave it to me to plug any holes that might crop up.

* As an aside, there's a lot of possible variation within each class that doubling up wouldn't be much of a problem.

If my attempt at an Alchemist is anything to judge by, RNGesus is out to get me. I'm not about to let that dissuade me though!

Lots of new friends! Welcome!

Welcome everyone!
@Celestine A Ritian Huckster sounds so cool. That's actually one of the combos I was considering at first, but since I'm taking a break from the MMO healer role, I chose a tank instead. Excited to see your abilities in play!
@DrifterDwarf Welcome to our tank roster. Our dps's aggro got out of hand fast in the last raid so never hurts to have more tanks joining.
