Thanks for the welcome. I've been kicking the Dwarf Guardian around. Heavy metal dwarf - sword and board (or ax) has always been a favorite of mine, starting way back (when the rules were carved in stone tablets). I saw mention of a paladin, but that does not seem to be playable.

I've read everything up through your giant plant raid, really awesome stuff and I am completely intimidated. I will definitely have to up my writing game and my AI art is not even close to what you guys are doing. witchdoctor's game posts and everyone else's player post are really incredible.

The raid was very exciting to read and honestly felt like some of the raids I've been in, including the bad part where tanks have no hope of holding aggro and end up being ineffective. Doesn't feel like they have the tools to do the job, which honestly is like every MMO I've ever tried to tank for in real life, but tends not to be fun for the tank.

Got a full day today, so I probably won't be able to work on the character until late.

Everyone has been excellent with writing and posts but no need to be intimidated. The A.I. art is definitely a boon to this game in particular though some people (rightfully)have issues with the process. If you need a bit of character art, a couple of us can help out with that. Generally all we'd need is a description or an image similar to what you're looking for.

Paladins are a Class on the European server that replace Pirate and are specific to characters generated on that server. They trade offensive power & overall HP for dabbling some in minor healing magic and special attacks that do Light type damage. Most servers have a Class or two with local cultural flavor (Japan has the Samurai & Shrine Priest, America has the Huckster, China has a Wuxia, etc...) I didn't detail them bc 12 Classes was a lot to lay down already & there's not much info on them. It's not impossible for someone to play one but I haven't laid down the framework for them just yet.

I'll put up a game post later today moving the established players into the city proper. That's where we can get everyone (new & old) into coming together.

As long as you've settled on a concept, I'd be total fine with the new folks submitting a blank Character Sheet (with a character name & Avatar, even if it's just a placeholder) and editing in the details later. That way, you can jump right into RP if you want.

Hello all thanks for the invite. I am completely new to this system and am going over the character sheet. What are the bonds for and are we using them? I am thinking of a wolf fang swashbuckler.
Sep 22, 2024 11:51 pm
Bonds are a way to represent teamwork or the extra "oomph" provided by working with people who you're close to & have an emotional connection with...even if that emotion is a negative one. You'd try just that much harder to save a loved one or friend; on the flip side, you'd put more passion behind trying to strike a hated enemy.

We haven't set any Bonds yet but that's something we'll get to.

Okay! I'm all caught up with the backlog, gonna dive into character gen right now. Might scribble out a character image for the time being. So far it looks like the character sheets are all mechanical stuff, is there any bio stuff you want, or should I be keeping that close to chest?

There's a section at the top of the Character Sheet that covers the fictional player behind the character.

>>>This provides a rough sketch of who your character is and what drives them:

Identity: a short, one sentence summary of your character concept or build.
Ex: Sharpshooter Assassin, Fire Mage, Battle Cleric, Blacksmith Guardian
Theme: the overall ideal or sentiment that governs your character's feelings and actions.
Ex: Guilt, Resentment, Freedom, Loss, Responsibility
Persona: a short, one sentence description of who your character was back on Earth before the Apocalypse .
Ex: Retail Worker, Professional Streamer, College Student, House Mom

>>>Those do have mechanical effects under certain circumstances but are there to detail some relevant biographic info. Raquel's player posted a detailed backstory but it isn't 100% necessary but if the muse strikes you, feel free to write to your heart's content ! Traits are something to reference (or hide) in roleplay if you want.

Character-wise, we currently have :
• a Catfolk Pirate
• a Fox-Tail Cleric
• a Human Assassin
• a Human Bard

There's quite a a cast of additional Adventurers tagging along to fill some gaps in the Party so don't feel like you have to pick something just for Party balance. Play what you want and leave it to me to plug any holes that might crop up.

* As an aside, there's a lot of possible variation within each class that doubling up wouldn't be much of a problem.
I guess I am dropped then?

One more question: Am I missing where the starting gear's stats are covered?

Hi Everyone--thank you for the warm welcomes! I'm excited to be joining the group.

I'm thinking of playing Colin Stubblebeard, a real-world art sculpture student turned Dwarven Summoner (of the golem/artifact persuasion).

Witchdoctor, I've shot you a few more questions over messaging for whenever you have the time (no rush).

Wow more members. Welcome everyone! Seems like we're getting more dps in the party. There're a few of every role now and it's great to see. Looking forward to meeting your characters.

I've submitted my Dwarven Guardian. I still need to work out an image for him, but the other details are in place I think. Have not yet chosen a sub class. Would probably go with blacksmith, although I know there is already one in the game. May just not bother with it yet.

Quick question on dwarves - this text:
Quote:

Dwarves are one of only two races that have "steampunk" inspired character elements. Metallic hands & legs aren't uncommon, lenses or goggles to replace one or both eyes are prestige items.
Sounds like could start the character out with a metallic hand. Is it also possible to start with goggles? it mentions "prestige" items and didn't know if that would be considered available at the start.

Starting gear is all pretty basic stuff. Light/Medium Armor is Def +1/Magic Def +0, weapons are [HR]+6 usually, the accessory is just for looks and theme.
Starting Heavy Armor is Def 12/ Magic Def +0

Good enough to get some basic things accomplished but basic enough to spur you into wanting better gear. The typical MMO routine ;)

Hokie-doke. Huckster stuff notwithstanding, the character is up for review now (at Lvl 10, since no statements were made about catching us up to the main party).

Edit: I did wuss out and use a placeholder image, admittedly. The art muse wasn't singing tonight.

You 100% can start with a metal hand as a Dwarf! Dwarves and Ritians can have 'steampunk' inspired features in their character design. 'Prestige' items would be the sort of thing one would've spent money for in the fictional 'Cash Shop' when the character was made. Doesn't do anything but look cool, really. It's a story element & you can absolutely start with them. It just shows that whoever you might've been on Earth they're the type of person that would spend real money on an MMO character just for looks.

It took a bit for the other players to settle on their Avatars too, so that's no big worry.

I'll approve the character so we can get started soon enough.

New characters do start at level 10, for now... This isn't like a lot of other PbP games where advancement is pretty stagnant. Like in actual MMOs, early levels fly by pretty fast & it's the mid to high levels that really take a while...tho I guess it depends on the choices you all make & paths you take.

4 new players joining us—welcome everyone! Looking forward to meeting your characters in-game! (At this point, I assume this is who we’re running towards and that your characters know something that ours don’t!)

The new folks will have 'spawned' inside the city so have some insights that the folks who got dropped in the field zones outside don't. The converse is also true with ones who spawned away from the city having a better idea about things outside the city walls. Sounded to me like a good setup for having a pair of low-level groups band together to get a better idea of what's going on.
