She hisses and throws back her hood. Serpents cling to her scalp, and her deadly gaze seeks out Tabat who spurned her.
OOC:
Petrifying Gaze (Su)
Turn to stone permanently, 30 feet, Fortitude DC 16 negates.

Tabat, Save or die?
Sep 21, 2024 9:05 am
Tabat tries to raise his shield to block the creature's gaze as quickly as he can.
OOC:
If this is a Death effect, he gets +2 to the save from his shield, I believe.

Rolls

Tabat Menes: Fortitude - (1d20+13)

(16) + 13 = 29

Sep 21, 2024 2:01 pm
Tabat successfully wards off the petrification effect but the fight isn't over with that attack.

Iseret and Tabat are up first.

Rolls

Initiative: Iseret +4, Jaware +6, Khadi +0, Tabat +1, Medusa - (1d20+4, 1d20+6, 1d20, 1d20+1, 1d20+6)

1d20+4 : (18) + 4 = 22

1d20+6 : (1) + 6 = 7

1d20 : (10) = 10

1d20+1 : (16) + 1 = 17

1d20+6 : (10) + 6 = 16

Sep 21, 2024 10:20 pm
With the creature facing Tabat, Iseret attempts to move behind the treacherous medusa. If successful, she strikes with a sneak attack. If the sneak attack is successful, the medusa also takes Bleed 3 and cannot make opportunity attacks for one turn (Bleeding Strike and Slow Reactions rogue talents).

Rolls

Short sword vs. medusa, flanking, sneak attack - (1d20+10+2, 1d4+5+3d6)

1d20+10+2 : (6) + 12 = 18

1d4+5+3d6 : (2) + (262) + 5 = 17

Sep 22, 2024 3:12 am
"Are you a guardian of this place?! We have authority to be here!" Tabat shouts, pulling his khopesh and charging the creature. His blade flashes - though he doesn't wish for violence, this creature may be too dangerous not to face with immediate show of force.
OOC:
Charge attack, -2 AC, +2 to hit. Risky Strike. Throw another +2 for flanking if that applies with Iseret.

Rolls

Tabat Menes: MW Khopesh - Atk/Dam w/ Risky Strike and Charge - (1d20+13, 1d8+9)

1d20+13 : (8) + 13 = 21

1d8+9 : (8) + 9 = 17

Sep 23, 2024 12:46 am
OOC:
she's not flat-footed, do either Iseret doesn't get the sneak, or Tabat acts first and doesn't get the flank. He would hit anyway, so let's do that.
She is struck hard by both the fast attackers. (34 damage, Bleed 3, Slow Reactions for 1 turn)

She screams and attempts to Petrify Tabat one more time before switching tactics.
OOC:
Petrifying Gaze (Su)
Turn to stone permanently, 30 feet, Fortitude DC 16 negates.

Tabat, Save or stone?
Melvin fires his bow twice rapidly, channeling a spell into the second attack. His spells devastate her and she falls to the ground dead.

Combat is over.
[ +- ] 2 Scorching Ray

Rolls

Bow spell attack, damage, Bow spell attack, Scorching Ray - (1d20+8, 1d8+1, 4d6, 1d20+8, 1d8+1, 4d6)

1d20+8 : (17) + 8 = 25

1d8+1 : (4) + 1 = 5

4d6 : (1426) = 13

Sep 23, 2024 1:45 am
Iseret carefully, without looking at her face, ties her dress over her head.
Sep 23, 2024 6:21 am
Tabat throws his shield up again, trying to avoid the gaze.
OOC:
Again, add +2 if this is a 'Death Effect', from the shield

Rolls

Tabat Menes: Fortitude - (1d20+13)

(18) + 13 = 31

Sep 23, 2024 3:45 pm
The creature's last deadly attack is once again thwarted by Tabat. You notice that her fingers are full of rings and she is adorned and armed like an adventurer underneath her robes.
Sep 23, 2024 5:22 pm
Its over before she can even begin thinking about hiding behind Tabat.

'Well that was.. okay I guess she really really likes rings.'
Sep 23, 2024 5:25 pm
Numerous rings adorn Udjebet’s fingers: a length of leather twine wrapped around a tiny turquoise feather (magic), a plain gold ring (magic), a worn leather band set with a silver bird’s foot (magic), a bone ring set with a tiny ruby (worth 250 gp), three copper rings (worth 10 gp each), a magnificent platinum ring set with a tiger eye (worth 600 gp), six silver wedding rings (worth 50 gp each), a carved stone ring (worth 5 gp), and half a dozen rings made of twisted reeds, string, and wire.
Sep 23, 2024 5:35 pm
"I am guessing she was not one of the guardians of this place, but was hoping to use us to bypass them herself perhaps." He studies the hand holding the rings. "If that is the case, one of these rings may be important to the library. We better take them, just in case." He slips the rings off her fingers - grim work, but she wouldn't be needing them any longer.

He holds the assortment up to Jaware. "Do you make anything of these three, beyond the presence of auras?"
Sep 23, 2024 5:48 pm
Jaware examines them with his full observational powers.

"The tiny turquoise feather is a whip feather token, the plain gold ring is a ring of blending *, and the worn leather band set with a silver bird’s foot is a ring of jumping." "

* this functions as a robe of blending, but uses the ring slot

Rolls

1d20+13 : (12) + 13 = 25

1d20+13 : (18) + 13 = 31

1d20+13 : (20) + 13 = 33

Sep 23, 2024 7:41 pm
"Could be handy," Tabat says, "Thank you Jaware - your aptitude in such magic is always valued."

He turns to the exit of the study room. "Shall we continue?"

[ +- ] Updated Map
A stone statue depicting clouds or billowing mist shaped into a humanoid form stands in the middle of this winding corridor that turns abruptly back upon itself in a series of switchbacks.

Khadi is certain that this is a strange statue of an invisible stalker, but why is it here in the middle of the archives?

Rolls

Khadi & Jaware: Knowledge (Planes) (Int) - (1d20+12, 1d20+12)

1d20+12 : (12) + 12 = 24

1d20+12 : (1) + 12 = 13

Oct 17, 2024 5:23 am
"Khadi, what kind of creature is this? Is it something we should be worried about, should we run into one?"
OOC:
I had been waiting to give others a chance to post, then got caught up in stuff and forgot to come back! Eager to see more here :D

Khadi explains what she found. It's likely that it was turned to stone by the Medusa.
Oct 23, 2024 4:30 pm
"It's good that we didn't end up like that!" Iseret suppresses a shudder. Are stoned creatures still aware, trapped in a stone form for eternity? she wonders.
Oct 23, 2024 7:10 pm
"I can't help but agree," Tabat says, remembering the glare of the medusa and the feeling that attempted to overwhelm his body along with it. This could have been me. "Let's move on, and hope she did similar to any other threats in this place." He steps around the statue and continues down the hall.

As you continue through the winding passages, you're suddenly alerted to danger only as you're attacked from surprise. No foe is visible.

Iseret and Jaware are up first, but you don't see an assailant, only the sudden attack that scrapes Jaware's armor
