"Neither do I," Tabat says. "We are here for books, though. Not graves." He tries to turn the face back to the right, proceeding to turn it further right to see if it opens a different path.

'This 'library' is fewling less like a library evwry minute She mutters as she follows

As Tabat sets to turn the face of disgust to a different configuration, his eyes rest in the shelves. Multiple books and scrolls can be found throughout the room between and above the sarcophagi.
OOC:
This room with the sarcophagi is badly described I think. While the description mentions shelves, it isn't clearly described anywhere in the text how it actually forms an important part of the library. Nonetheless, there is quite bit of research that you can do in here.

"Wait..." Tabat says, "I think I see books on the shelves there, above the sarcophagi." He hesitates, "It would be just like this library's builders to put the very books we seek within a den of mummies." He concentrates and feels his discernment focus through the mask as his allies begin to glow faintly, giving off the sense they are alive. He wonders if this might help him identify any creatures that may be otherwise as well as he moves into the room. "Should we check the sarcophagi first, respectfully, to make sure nothing intends to catch us off guard? I believe I may be able to scan any corpses inside to confirm whether they are an immediate threat."
OOC:
Activing his 'Deathwatch' ability from the mask. It should allow him to detect living vs. undead creatures, though it doesn't allow him to sense anything 'covered', I think, so we'd need to open the sarcophagi to reveal what's inside first.

Iseret looks dubious. "Open them? Well, I mean yes, but..."
Jun 4, 2025 3:16 am
Hieroglyphs inscribed on each sarcophagus name the "lost curators" within and their crimes.

Tabat senses no other life or unlife in the room.

Jaware points out a sarcophagi. "This one, Khnenti, is listed as having researched too deeply into the life of the Sky Pharaoh."

Rolls

Perception: Iseret +8, Jaware +5, Khadi +3, Tabat +3

Jun 4, 2025 6:15 am
"If we are to open one, this would be the one I would choose." Tabat moves to the sarcophagus indicated by Jaware. "Perhaps, if only a corpse, I may yet get some information from it." He attempt to open it, slowly and carefully, continuing to scan for danger within.
Jun 4, 2025 11:11 pm
The sarcophagus is swollen shut. It takes some effort but you can break it open.

"Careful. Look here. This has been tampered with." He shows you markings that look fresher than the rest of the coffin.

Rolls

Perception: Iseret +8, Jaware +5, Khadi +3, Tabat +3 - (1d20+6, 1d20+5, 1d20+3, 1d20+2)

Jun 5, 2025 7:45 pm
Khadi stays back a bit, letting those who actually have working muscles to lift.
Jun 6, 2025 4:12 am
"Iseret? Any signs of a trap? I think we need to get this open, but I am worried about damaging the mummy." He will await Iseret's assessment, then try to open it carefully if there are no signs of a trap.
Jun 6, 2025 4:32 am
Iseret snaps out of her stupor. "Traps... right."

Rolls

Perception - (1d20+9)

(19) + 9 = 28

Jun 8, 2025 1:59 pm
It's not trapped, as far as Iseret can tell. The tampering seems to perhaps try to jam it closed.
Jun 9, 2025 6:12 am
With nothing hounding them, Tabat breaks out his trusty crowbar to use as needed and sets to opening the sarcophagus.
OOC:
Taking 20 on Strength check to get this thing open, if possible. Otherwise, roll is below.

Rolls

Tabat Menes: Strength - (1d20+7)

(4) + 7 = 11

Jun 9, 2025 3:49 pm
It takes Tabat a couple minutes, but he pries the lid off the sarcophagus. A mummified body within seems to be pushed right against the lid, so when it opens, it tumbles out with a dry cracking sound. The body is finely dressed, as if an individual of some importance but in a religious way rather than as a noble.

You only have a moment to take that in when a creature that was behind the body begins to move. It's a mummy of some kind, crafted from knotted linen bandages and wrappings sprinkled with mummy dust. It immediately and soundlessly attacks.

You all act first before the slow moving foe.

Rolls

Initiative: Iseret +4, Jaware +6, Khadi +0, Tabat +1, Foe +0 - (1d20+4, 1d20+6, 1d20, 1d20+1, 1d20)

1d20+4 : (13) + 4 = 17

1d20+6 : (12) + 6 = 18

1d20 : (3) = 3

1d20+1 : (20) + 1 = 21

1d20 : (2) = 2

Jun 9, 2025 5:17 pm
Iseret backpedals quickly, withdrawing from the sarcophagus and drawing her short sword.
Jun 9, 2025 5:29 pm
'Khepri, tell this one to goo back to sleep! Shye prays even as she darts to hid behind Tabat. The familiar pulse of her channel rushes out from her symbol

Rolls

Khadi: Channel DC19 (No Channel Resist) - Damage - (4d6+11)

(1541) + 11 = 22

Jun 9, 2025 6:28 pm
The positive energy has no effect on the creature, as if it were not actually undead.
Jun 10, 2025 12:46 am
Tabat drops the crowbar, pulls out his spear, and attacks the creature. "We set you free and this is how you repay us!? I swear, no manners at all!"
OOC:
If within 1 of hitting AC, he'll use the spear's ability to hit.

Tabat hits it hard with the spear.

Jaware, every ready, releases two arrows using his arcane pool to enhance his arrows for one minute...

The creature is clearly hurt bad.
