Character Discussion

Hey! Thanks for the add.

Are those of this new group following the same Diplomacy route as indicated from the original game description?

If so, I have thoughts of a College of Eloquence Bard, Rogue Inquisitive.

Is custom lineage an acceptable racial option?

fingers crossed!! :)

Rolls

stat 1 - (4d6kh3)

(3651) + 3 = 18

stat 2 - (4d6kh3)

(1434) + 3 = 15

stat 3 - (4d6kh3)

(5635) + 3 = 22

stat 4 - (4d6kh3)

(1263) + 3 = 15

stat 5 - (4d6kh3)

(1236) + 3 = 15

stat 6 - (4d6kh3)

(4311) + 3 = 12

May 11, 2024 12:35 am
stat 1 - (4d6kh3) = 14

(3651) + 3 = 18

stat 2 - (4d6kh3) = 11

(1434) + 3 = 15

stat 3 - (4d6kh3) = 16

(5635) + 3 = 22

stat 4 - (4d6kh3) = 11

(1263) + 3 = 15

stat 5 - (4d6kh3) = 11

(1236) + 3 = 15

stat 6 - (4d6kh3) = 8

(4311) + 3 = 12

should be: 16, 14, 11, 11, 11, 8

(will have to decide whether to keep or use 27 point buy...)

any chance I could take a -3 to one of those 11s and give a +3 to one of them for, 16, 14, 14, 11, 8, 8 ?? :)

Good Day!
We will use this Thread to discuss your character!

Please let me know your character ideas and we will flesh things out.

Please take a look at Information For more stuff on rules

You will start level 3.

Your stats were 14 11 16 11 11 7

I would perfer you just keep them as it to keep it simple.
May 11, 2024 9:55 am
Um...shouldn't that 7 be an 8?

stat 6 - (4d6kh3) = 8 (4 + 3 + 1)

(4311) + 3 = 12
Also, so my first post for the concept I proposed.
May 11, 2024 2:40 pm
Yeah your Right. 8 not a 7.
I have been dealing with high fever and being sick for about a week.

I will post about your concept in the trio thread.
May 11, 2024 8:49 pm
As much as I like that 16, I'll go with 27 point buy

08 STR
14 DEX
10 CON
10 INT
14 WIS
15 CHA

CHA will go to 18 with a +2 from custom lineage and +1 from the feat gained from custom lineage (still deciding which...telepathic, telekinetic, Actor, or Fey Touched)
May 11, 2024 9:31 pm
I didn't even realize that they were based off the same roll! But yeah, would never have thought to have it apply to insightful fighting.

I would like to submit the following Custom Background (using his racially born with feat - Telekinetics - which provides access to the mage hand cantrip) for consideration/approval:

Mystic Rogue

The Mystic Rogue background encompasses individuals who possess a rare fusion of mystical aptitude and rogue-like skills, creating a unique blend of arcane talents and stealthy prowess. These individuals harness the powers of telekinesis to manipulate objects from a distance, coupled with their exceptional thievery and subtlety, making them formidable agents of secrecy and intrigue.

Mystic Rogues are often sought-after assets in covert operations, espionage, and heists, as their unique blend of magical aptitude and rogue-like expertise provides them with a distinct advantage. They excel in gathering information, acquiring elusive artifacts, and accomplishing tasks that require a delicate touch and an unmatched level of precision.

While Mystic Rogues share a common background, their individual stories and motivations vary greatly. Some may have honed their skills as part of secretive organizations, while others may have discovered their latent telekinetic abilities and trained themselves in the shadows. Regardless of their origins, Mystic Rogues tend to be resourceful, adaptable, and capable of thinking on their feet, making them valuable assets in navigating dangerous and intricate situations.

Whether they use their powers for personal gain or to champion noble causes, Mystic Rogues bring a unique blend of magic, skill, and intrigue to the adventuring world. Their ability to manipulate objects with their mind, coupled with their rogue-like finesse, allows them to leave their mark on any challenge they encounter, making them both mysterious and compelling figures in the realm of adventurers.

Skill Proficiencies: Stealth, Sleight of Hand

This allows you to remotely manipulate your thieves' tools with precision, utilizing your telekinetic powers to perform delicate tasks that would normally require direct contact.

4. Independence: You value your autonomy and prefer working alone, relying on your own abilities rather than relying on others.
5. Knowledge: You believe that knowledge is power and seek to uncover hidden truths and unravel ancient mysteries.
6. Justice: You have a strong sense of justice and strive to right the wrongs in the world, using your skills to protect the innocent and punish the guilty.

Bonds:

1. Mentor's Legacy: You carry the teachings and legacy of a powerful telekinetic mentor, striving to honor their memory and uphold their ideals.
2. Stolen Artifact: You possess an ancient relic or stolen object of great significance, and its fate weighs heavily on your conscience.
3. Fellow Rogues: You have formed a tight bond with a group of fellow rogues or thieves, relying on each other for support and camaraderie.

6. Lost Love: You carry the memory of a lost love or a broken relationship, and it fuels your determination to prevent others from experiencing the same pain.

Flaws:

1. Overconfident: Your exceptional skills sometimes lead you to underestimate your opponents or take unnecessary risks.
2. Secretive: You are hesitant to trust others fully and tend to keep your true intentions and motivations hidden.

Ability Score Increase: Your Charisma score increases by 2, reflecting your enigmatic nature and persuasive demeanor.

Feat: Telekinetic.

Variable Trait: Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

The Background is ok besides the Below features. Those are way to strong and are stealing abilities from Arcane Trickster Rogue.
Custom backgrounds are normally made by Take features from other Backgrounds and reflavoring it for yours.
Quote:
Feature: Telekinetic Rogue - Your mastery of both thievery and telekinesis allows you to combine your skills for daring feats. Your telekinetic abilities grant you an advantage in your rogue activities.

Telekinetic Manipulation: When using the mage hand cantrip, you can attempt Sleight of Hand checks to pick locks or disarm traps from a distance. This allows you to remotely manipulate your thieves' tools with precision, utilizing your telekinetic powers to perform delicate tasks that would normally require direct contact.

Object Retrieval: Additionally, you can attempt Sleight of Hand checks when using the mage hand cantrip to retrieve objects that may be obstructed or hidden from view. The Custom Lineage is ok. If you are trying to go Tiefling I would suggest Tiefling (Mammon) or Tiefling (Mephistopheles). You get Dark Vision, Fire Resistance, Mage Hand, and 2 more spells. Cha +2 and Init +1 which you can change. You could get the Telekinetic. feat to upgrade your Mage Hand Later.

Feature to apply to Mystic Rogue Background (from the Planar Philosopher Background: Source = Planescape - Adventures in the Multiverse):

Conviction
You gain the Scion of the Outer Planes feat. In addition, members of your organization provide you free, modest lodging and food at any of their holdings or the homes of other faction members.

Scion of the Outer Planes feat: http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/feat:scion-of-the-outer-planes

I'd have him select the outlands, providing him the mage hands cantrip. This, in conjunction with the acquisition of the mage hands cantrip from the Telekinetic feat doubles the range of Mage hands (as stated in the Telekinetic feat). And Psychic resistance makes sense, given the race possesses psychic abilities (telekinesis and telepathy).
As for the custom lineage, I'd gone with a subclass of Tiefling as I'd assumed creating a new race might not be allowed. If it is alright to do so, I'll create one for the custom lineage as defined above: Telequarian

Telequarian:

Physical Description: Telequarians are a captivating and diminutive race, standing no taller than 3 feet. They possess an otherworldly grace with translucent skin, shimmering hair, and large, luminous eyes in a variety of enchanting colors. Adorned with celestial jewelry, they exude an aura of enchantment (metaphorically speaking, not literally).

Ability Score Increase: Your Charisma score increases by 2, reflecting your captivating presence.

Feat: Telekinetic (males only), Telepathic (females only).

Variable Trait: Darkvision - Telequarians can see in darkness as if it were dim light, up to a range of 60 feet.

Languages: You can speak, read, and write Common and one additional language.

in hindsight, perhaps, given their psionic connection (telekinetics and telepathy), Perhaps Psychic Rogue would be a better name for the background (or Psionic Rogue), where this would a background exclusive to those of his race?? And I'd expand the description of the background to include telepathy, in addition to telekinetics, to allow for females of the race to enter into the same background.

Conviction
You gain the Scion of the Outer Planes feat. In addition, members of your organization provide you free, modest lodging and food at any of their holdings or the homes of other faction members.

perhaps, to make this more in line with the Mystic (or Psychic/Psionic) Rogue background, it should read:

Conviction
You gain the Scion of the Outer Planes feat. In addition, other Psychic Rogues provide you free, modest lodging and food at any of their holdings or homes.

Planar Philosopher Background from Adventures in the Multiverse is one of the few Backgrounds that I do not allow.
The Main reason behind it is that it gives a free Feat. All of the Backgrounds that do so are not allowed in the campaign.

Background - SCC, AAG, DSotDQ, BMT, SatO, BBG are not allowed.
May 14, 2024 4:52 pm
To be honest, I don't know what those acronyms are???

Planescape - Adventures in the Multiverse didn't look like one of them...PAM??
May 14, 2024 5:06 pm
The main thing is if any Background gives you a free Feat it is a no go.

They have added so many books that I do not know what is in everything anymore.

Your best bet for most things is to Keep it Simple. I have not read most of the books that have released recently.
If you are looking to do something ask and I will research then give you a yes or no.
May 14, 2024 5:28 pm
just using this as an example: http://dnd5e.wikidot.com/background:dimir-operative

could I, as the feature for the Psychic Rogue Background, use the spell list provided there? If not, I'll just use the Far Travelers "All Eyes on You" feature.
May 14, 2024 5:45 pm
The spells on the Dimir Guild Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class.
Those spell are on your list you do not automatically learn.
(I don't know your character build yet)
If you are using a non spellcasting class (Fighter, Rogue, Barbarian) then you would not receive any of those spells at all.

Otherwise the All Eyes are on Background Feature works.
May 14, 2024 6:18 pm
Rogue 1/Bard 2

So, if used, could expand his bard spell list.

so...I was reading through the chat thread...all the way back to the start...and came across this statement by you:

I would prefer Arcana Trickster over Soulknife. I am not a huge fan of psychic characters.

I hadn't realized that. Would you prefer I remove the 'psychic' spin on the background I've put forth? It was simply named that to be thematic with the 'telepathic' (female) and 'telekinetic' (male) feats inherent in the Telequarian race I put forth. It being a background primarily for the Telequarian race (but could be taken by anyone with either of those feats as a racial feat).
