Chapter 2: Voices in the Dark

The party treks through the murky water with determination, eventually reaching a point where another passage intersects from the right. Oshgal makes the right turn, following the scent and taking you past smaller, relatively dry passages to both right and left.

"A sinister person goes left." Crow whispered and tumbled, minimizing his profile by sprawling to the right and immediately collapsing into a log roll. He sprung somersault as soon as he completed the rotation. Nipping to his feet, pressing up to the blind corner and peeked around it. Displaying once again his superhuman alacrity and grace. His movements even at this range were quicker than the eye. A subtle form of shadow magic? Or was he really that skilled?

Rolls

Acrobatics (Dex) - (1d20+10)

(11) + 10 = 21

Stealth (Dex) - (1d20+10)

(15) + 10 = 25

"Wow! You…have so much energy!" Trig observes with partial admiration.

Tom watches Crow's movements quizzically. Is the other boy implying he's seen something or simply quoting a euphemism from his faith? Tom follows along far less acrobatically but with a renewed wariness, not thrilled to go jumping about in the sludge himself. He squints ahead trying to determine what may have drawn this sudden burst of action from Crow, whose instincts have been consistently right, so far.

OOC:
Sinister means left handed which Crow is.

OOC:
Clarify for me, please. There are smaller, dry passages left and right, and the main passage continues ahead. Which corner are you checking?

the frst passage on the left

Crow ducks left and finds himself in a large room, about 15 feet by 15 feet. There is an exit on the left wall, an open passageway. The room is filled with large brass pipes that extend from the walls and go into the floor. Nothing moves in the dark stillness of the room and you can hear water in the pipes.

Trig walks up and looks into the right passage as the party continues to follow Oshgal. Impressive athleticism is all very well, but she sees no reason to get one's hair wet.

Tom follows after Crow to the left. Upon entering the chamber with the pipes, he moves toward the exit in the left wall but doesn't leave the room--he's just trying to get a look at which way the passageway goes.

Looking into the right passage, Trig finds that it goes only a short distance before it ends in a room with several crates and barrels. Exploring the passage from the pipes room, Tom finds that it also goes a short distance and ends at a "T" junction, with each arm of the T going only about 10 feet before reaching a dead end. Oshgal presses forward.

Tom rejoins the group, "Looks like nothing but dead ends this way." He hurries to catch up with Oshgal.

OOC:
I am a genius and just realized that because of my Beastkin trait, I can actually talk to Oshgal whenever I want because Speak With Animals is an at will spell for me when it applies to her and her ilk.
Crouching low over her feline friend’s back, Fen nuzzles her cheek into the cat’s fur and whispers, "You do good. Thank you, friend." Fen allows the cat to continue her progress onward, leading the group through the maze below the city by the virtue of her heightened sense of smell.

Okay, here's a map. The party is at the red X.

OOC:
Nice map!
Anticipating that Oshgal's scent tracking is taking us further down the corridor, Trig sneaks up and peers around the corner to the right (east).
OOC:
Rolling Stealth and Perception, in case either are needed.

Rolls

Stealth - (1d20+4)

(19) + 4 = 23

Perception - (1d20-1)

(11) - 1 = 10

Tom will ready his bow and follow along behind Fen scanning for threats (at least, until something else catches his interest).

OOC:
Something we have been doing in other games to speed up the dungeon crawling is skipping empty spaces. They dont actually add anything to the game. Instead the GM just asks us which encounter or room of relevance(red herring included) we would like to explore.

The crawl part need not be present in PbP because there is no game in it. The dungeon is what we are here for yes?

I am of course ok with the traditional dungeon crawl if everyone else wants that.

With Oshgal hot on the scent trail, you make good time. After several twists and turns, she enters a small room where a ladder leads up to a trap door. A quick attempt to open it proves that it has been barred from above.
Jul 31, 2024 2:55 am
Crow marks the door with an "X" and some chalk. He keeps the chalk in his right hand and stencils an arrow pointed back in the direction he had come from. He reached into his leather bag and produced a pick and tension wrench he grasped them securely in his right hand and proceeded to search for a seam.
OOC:
Take 20 to search this room?
Jul 31, 2024 2:07 pm
While Crow is examining the trap door, Trig attempts to listen to discern if there's anyone moving around in the space above the trap door. If she was on the ladder, she'd be touching it to sense any vibrations, but since Crow is the one on the ladder, she figures he's doing that already.

Rolls

Perception check - (1d20-1)

(19) - 1 = 18
