Chapter 2: Voices in the Dark

Crow strikes the wick on his hooded lantern and offers it to someone. "Stealth works best when you arent lit up." He jokes and after someone takes the lanterns pulls his hood and mask over to further conceal his flesh and melds into the shadows.

Trig beams at Crow's compliment, and she takes the lantern (even though she finds it dazzling). She looks around, wondering at Crow's disappearance. Then she gets curious about the contents of the room. What's in here, aside from the door to the east and the passage north?

Crow strikes from shadows, superior reaction times allowing him to catch his enemy on the flat foot, even though he whirled about face. Without a moment's hesitation he lunged with rapier in hand knowing these mercenaries wouldn't hesitate.

Trig stifles a shriek at the sudden appearance of the grown man, and looses her crossbow's bolt at him.

Tom slides to his left towards Trig to get a look through the doorway. As the others efficiently dispose off their foe and Crow smoothly dances back from his line of sight, Tom spies that the other thief has been caught unawares and quickly triggers his crossbow.

"Tarna cut her off." Crow directed the paladin as he positioned himself in full cover adjacent the doorway. "There's no way out for you. Surrender, cooperate and we will be merciful." Crow attempted reason with the wounded thief.

"Prepare to meet the God of the Hanged."

Crow flicked his rapier clean, sending a streamer of blood towards the thief.

Tom jerks to the side as the bolt fired by the thief hurdles his way, astonished by how quickly she was able to grab a weapon and return fire. He feels the projectile impact his upper arm and winces, seeing blood staining his leathers. He flexes the arm gently and finds he was lucky, he was merely grazed by the edge of the quarrel's head, leaving a cut that doesn't seem particularly deep. Had he been a few inches to the side it would have been serious.

By the time the woman has rejected Crow's opportunity to surrender, he has worked his way into a position where he has at least a decent shot around the corner.

He wonders if this Aristina was the one he'd overheard giving orders to the group they'd fought earlier.

Trig steps forward toward the doorway, so that she can get a glimpse of the remaining Thief. As soon as she does, Trig casts Daze on her. "The Xanathar?? You're a mean old lady and I curse you!"

Crow stows his blade and advances to the woman's flank as Tarna harasses and forces an open, Crow whipped his coinpurse in a descending blow on the woman's exposed neck intent on taking her alive.
