Chapter 2: Voices in the Dark

Trig is not used to adults who are able to withstand her enchantments. "Hey! Settle down, lady!"

Crow tries to slap some sense jnto this thief with his blackjack

Tom was in the process of moving into the room, placing himself along the wall opposite where Crow and the thief are engaged in combat, and trying and find a clear shot.

"Good work, Crow!" he commends the older boy.

"We only risk our lives by going deeper. We confirmed Xanathar's involvement. And this one will be made to talk. I thinkJustice Darkhaven will be pleased to know of this place as well."

Crow was being pragmatic in this regard. They were on a fact finding mission and they now had facts to present.

Tom inspects the room to see if there's anything in addition to the thief's weapons and armor. While he has no interest in another bow, but he'll take the prisoner's bolts to replace those he fired.

Trig helps to search the room for anything more of interest, but her eyes continually flick back to Crow as she wonders what she can do to earn his approval. Koko wriggles on her head impatiently.

Tom frowns, trying to determine which side of this debate he falls on.

"While I'm tempted to agree with Crow, that it seems somewhat foolhardy for us to believe that we can take on this unknown force--it's no more foolhardy than it was when we first set out. We're in no more danger than when we left the Hall," says Tom. "If we believe our captive can expose enough of the enemy's plans for actions to be taken such that Anwyn remains safe, I agree, there is no reason to further risk harm. But I am hesitant to say that this will be the case--we have no reason yet to believe she's more than some common foot soldier. Perhaps we question her here to decide?"

"She won't talk, but the Justice's have magic that compels the truth. Lets stuff her in a barrel and go deeper. Each one of these bastards we kill or capture makes us that much safer."

Trig stares at Tom with wide eyes. ::Who is this kid, talking not just like an adult, but like a lawyer? He must be some kind of scholar,:: she decides, ::and I'm glad he's on my side.:: She doesn't really follow everything that Tom is saying, but it sounds smart. Then, when Crow says we should continue, she nods enthusiastically.

Tom moves forward cautiously, trailing the group and keeping his weapon trained on first the door as they approach it; not wanting a repeat of the last encounter.

Crow took a moment, knelt praying, with rapier held in an underhanded grip. Readying himself. Then disappeared into the shadows, advancing(?).

Trig follows Crow and Tarna, and precedes Tom.

"I assume we want to open and clear these one at a time so we don't get caught with folks rushing out to surround us as we reach the middle?" whispers Tom.

"Thats a good idea."
