OOC:
Elyse will wait for the party to get underway.
Jun 8, 2024 8:28 pm
After a little while, the party sets a medium pace out of the town. July looks happier, refreshed, even optimistic maybe. She walks to the right of the wagon, while Elyse walks to the left.
Hazel, sitting in the wagon and leading the two horses, still grumbles on low voice. Nobody can actually hear her, but you both are sure it is about leaving way later than she originally wanted.

After a couple of hours, July hastens a bit her pace, just enough to walk around 10 meters ahead of the wagon. Elyse can see is checking for tracks in the road.
Hazels calls out What have you find? Any danger?. July answers fast Not really, seems to be old animal tracks. Nothing to worry so far.. But you notice July continues to check for tracks with attention.
Jun 9, 2024 2:53 pm
Elyse scurries to catch up with July. In a whisper:What's got you on edge July? are you seeing any sighs of the wagon that left about an hour before us? Elyse, keeps pace with July and looks to the surroundings to either side of the path looking for signs of danger.
OOC:
Can a character Focus out of combat? If so I do that as an action in anticipation of an ambush.

OOC:
In Psybermagi's game you can Focus out of combat. The rules are nebulous, but it is allowed in this game.

July manages to continue her serious demeanor while walking ahead of the wagon, now with Elyse.
Oh Elyse, I'm sorry to worry you, please walk with me. July continues in a friendly tone, although low voice as not to be heard by Hazel.
I don't really like this lady, she has bad manners, absolute focus on money, she is careless about other people, she even has no family... we couldn't be more different. So I'm pretending to look for tracks just to be far from her.

July seems to be remembering something for a moment. If not for my little cousin's illness, sure I wouldn't be here. My family really needs the extra coin and my father and uncle are already working way more than anyone would seem reasonable. If them both keep up that effort I am afraid they will soon be ill too... So I chose to help.

Looking again at Elyse, July continued I am glad you appeared then, and that you joined us. So, what brought you here?
Jun 13, 2024 11:24 am
Well July, I come from a family of craftsmen and merchants. Me being the last in line I got the least desirable job. They sent me away to find raw gems. Stones that no one would look twice at until my family cuts them and mounts them in jewelry. I'm looking for small towns with abandoned mines or quarries, if I ma lucky I can find raw stones in a market. It's lonely work but i seem to get by. Haven't been home in over a year. Elyse continues walking along with July, thinking while looking about the wilderness on either side of the trail. July, I'm not defending Hazels behavior, but my family isn't much different from her. Money and reputation is all they really care about. I hope you can look past that part of me.

Elyse continues walking along side July and eventually says: Let's see what the next town brings. If there is potential for finding some raw stones, maybe you could join me and I can show you what to look for. Might be easier work than guarding.
Jun 16, 2024 11:06 am
July hears Elyse, she does care for her opinion Oh, but I don't see you like that, you've been attentive and helpful even before we knew each other. Hazel, on the other hand... well. You continue to talk from time to time, and you discover how much close July is to her family, and how much she admires her grandfather and her father, both always willing to put themselves at risk to save the rest of their family... both prioritizing all family members wellbeing and happiness before profit or social status.

Eventually the light gets dimmer, sun approaches the horizon and Hazels calls you both back to talk about setting camp. You haven't been able to catch up with the other wagon yet and you are beggining to feel hungry. The road is crossing a grassland with scatered mid-height trees, there are a few mountains around half kilometer (a mile) to the south of the road that may provide cover but also other risks. And you can see the road, that continues to the west, entering a forrest a couple of hours ahead. To the north the vegetation gets thinner, with less trees and yellow-ish packs of grass. Coming from the east, Hazel thinks it doesn't make much sense to go back there. Where do you suggest you all make camp?
OOC:
Feel free to roll for further checks on the current position or anything else you want Elyse to look for.

Rolls

sun sets / camp

Jun 21, 2024 6:47 pm
Well, I suggest we pull the wagon beneath one of the trees not far off the road up ahead. Not much cover for bandits. I prefer staying near the path. Gives us the opportunity get a quick start in the morning. Elyse points to the west and a tree just off the path as a possible camp site. she trots off in that direction and gets a head start setting up camp laying out a picket line for the horses and gathers some stones to bank a fire against. When the wagon pulls up:I'm so small horses tend to get skittish around me, can one of you unhitch the horses? the picket line is over there. Hazel, I can grab the cooking stuff and get started with the fire and boiling water for hydrating the rations and maybe a spot of coffee? After everyone has finished eating, Elize starts to tell a tale of the princess and the pea. While telling the story she conjures illusions to play the story out in the smoke of the fire.I'll take first watch everyone? Hazel, are we splitting it three ways? We will all be more effective with a three way split...

Rolls

You all eat well, July takes care of the horses while Hazel gets Elyzse the food to cook.
After a while, horses are resting and you have all eaten, Elise starts her tale... At the beginning on July follows happily the story, little by little Hazel wams to it, and the finale is enjoyed by all.

Hazel, already sleeping bag at hand, was about to lay to rest when you asked her. She was NOT expecting that, quite fast she answered ok, last one is mine then turned around and layed down. You didn't had much wine, she didn't reply... actually she had a strange look in her face, a look neither you nor July had ever seen, was that a smile?

None of you knew why she accepted, nor were about to let her change her mind, so you just left her to sleep. Neither of you knew that, when Hazel was but a small girl, her father used to tell her that same tale, when he was alive, when she was happy. Now she was alone.

July approached you to speak in low voice, she was to take the first shift.

In the morning, you her an angry loud voice Come on you lazy useless nobodies! Up you go! Put together some quick breakfast and on our way! Seemed that Hazel was back to her usual self. You all got some bread and cheese, July took care of the horses and got them back to the wagon and Elyse got the bags back to the wagon, both under a vigilant look of Hazel.

You started to walk the road.
OOC:
Please give me a roll to check the road.
Jun 24, 2024 1:24 pm
before bedding down she apologizes to July and offers to take second shift and defers to July's preference. Elyse and July take up their positions ahead of the wagon and set a brisk pace. July, are you seeing any signs of the other wagon? there should be tracks or some other signs of their passing. The road isn't very busy and the weather has been fair. Trying to recall her observations from the previous day, when did she last see the other wagon tracks? was there a fork in the road where we might have deviated? July, where is this read headed, what is the name of the settlement?

Rolls

check the road - (2d6)

July hears Elyse as smartly and gently as usual Yes, see there? Says pointing at some tracks in the road Those are theirs. It seems they were able to stay longer on the road than us yesterday, probably their horses were better rested. We should see their campsite ahead. I think they are around 2 hours ahead of us, or more. It's ok.

About the settlement, she hasn't been there before but... I heard they call it The Base. It was described as an exploration camp around old ruins of an important place before the shattering. But I've never been there before.

As you continue walking some new tracks appear on the edge of the road. It seems that, whatever made them tried not to use the road itself... You do not recognise the very few prints in the dirt, but do recognise those paws have some kind of claws. And the prints are fresh!
Jun 25, 2024 5:43 pm
trying not to raise Hazels suspicion, Elyse tries to learn as much as she can from the tracks and ensure July sees them as well. She is trying to determine if the tracks are animal in nature or if they are humanoid. How big the "creatures" might be and their number. And even if I can tell how fresh they are.

whispering:July, look here and here, what do you think of them.
OOC:
Assuming one of us helps the other, I'll roll with advantage but if that doesn't apply ignore the third result.

Gain more information from the mysterious tracks - (3d6)

(263) = 11

Jun 25, 2024 7:30 pm
You share your findings with July, who immediately changes to a guarding position and alerts Hazel. A moment later you all have weapons at hand, standing around the wagon.

Suddenly 5 animals jump from behind different trees and bushes, they realised that the surprise is gone, but are hungry so they take their chances... These lizard-like animals, about 1 m high, have big mouths and teeths, small aft arms, and run on their 2 big and strong hind legs that end in dangerous claws. Since the surprise in gone, they don't run but walk menacing, not allowing any space for escape, surrounding you 3 with the wagon in the middle.
OOC:
Since you were not ambushed, you can describe how you position to defend yourselves.

You did have advantage by working together.
Jun 25, 2024 9:48 pm
Elyse and July take up defensive positions on either side of the horse and I tell Hazel to stay in the wagon seat and cover our flanks. Elyse the cast the illusion of a blurry curtain between herself and the nearest beast.
OOC:
Using Spell-touched trait: the illusion will hopefully give the monster disadvantage.
Then ready's her short sword and dagger for the beast's inevitable attack.

While you position yourselves, 3 if these lizard approach Elyse and 2 approach July.

Those 3 try to attack through the blurry curtain and... the blurry curtain proves to be very valuable! The the 3 velociraptors attack furiously, only to be confused when their claws and bites fail to land on target.

July is somehow handling the other 2 attackers, but with the wagon in the middle you can't see her properly. What will Elyse do now?

How many attack Elyse? - (1d3+1)

1d6 : (1) = 1

1d6 : (3) = 3

1d6 : (4) = 4

Jun 27, 2024 5:50 pm
Elyse strikes out at the nearest enemy with her shot sword and keeps the dagger in the other hand in reserve if she needs to parry.
OOC:
magic isn't really fleshed out in details for Spell-touched, I would hope a defensive use of illusion would have a timer/duration, I suggest 1d3 rounds which would represent a D6 divided by 2, keeping with tiny D6 philosophy. if this is too strong or you think otherwise just let me know and I can edit this post as appropriate.

Rolls

attack with short sword - (2d6)

(22) = 4

duration of blurry curtain - (1d3)

(3) = 3

Jun 28, 2024 2:28 pm
Hazel starts to react... she was so frightened, that started screaming Protect us! Protect us! to... no one in particular.

The blurry curtain holds still, but the confused 3 velociraptors attack Elyse again.
OOC:
Edit after attacks:
The 3 dinos put all efforts, but can't manage to hit Elyse. Moreover, being so close to each other now, one of them almost hit one of his own.

Elyse hears the sound of sword against claws from July's area, but can't figure out what is really happening there.

What will Elyse do now?

Elyse hears Hazels screaming. She quickly sets her mind to the sound and with a mental will, changes the words to the sound of what Elyse imagines an larger predator might sound like and tries to amplify it to a high pitched cry of challenge.

The altered words echo out across the grasslands Prowchactousssss... tailing off in a screech.

She then dodges under the belly of the horse trusting the blurry curtain at her back and joining July on the other side...

Spell-Touched, attempt to scare the beast with sound - (2d6)

(23) = 5

Jun 28, 2024 9:05 pm
Elyse successfully rolls to the other side. She finds July with a small wound in front of one of those animals, the second one inmobile in the ground.

After her roll Elyse attempts intimidation. Her attempt surprises the raptor for a moment but is not enough to scare it.

The raptor here attacks July. The other three raptors, not seeing anyone between them and Hazel, try to jump to attack her over the wagon, albeit trying to reach her forces them to contest for a space with reach, thus the third one is left behind.

Edit: July is injured again in her left arm as she blocks a strong bite from the raptor, a bite that was aimed at her head. She feels weaker, but still strong enough to fight back, and so she does with a swing of her sword. But the raptor evades the first attack, but July presses forward in a backslash the raptor didn't expect. Now the second one is on the ground. July shouts Hazel, report!. Hazel only says Help! Help!

Elyse seeing July is ok. July stay here and protect this flank of the horse in case one of the beast comes around. She then dashes beneath the wagon, focuses all her willpower into a magic bolt and lets one fly at the nearest Raptor.
OOC:
Edit after roll, I wasn't sure if you could focus as an action then get advantage on the attack. So I only rolled 2 dice.
