Elyse rolls back easily now and with excellent aim hits the raptor nearest to both Hazel and her in the head. And it drops to the ground.
OOC:
When you 'focus' as an action, you don't get another die in the roll, you get to success also on 4s.
Now Hazel, reacting to the return of Elyse and seeing one of those beasts down, loads her crossbow and fire the other.
Edit: Still too nervous, her aim is off.
OOC:
With ranged weapons, loading is an action by itself unless the character has quick-shot trait.
Now 2 beasts remain, the one in front Hazel attacks her and the one behind sees Elyse rolling back and moves closer to her and then attacks her.
Hazel let's out a shocking shout as she is reached once.

July runs around the wagon to help Hazel, and attack the Dino in front of her. But the beast backs its head enough and the slash misses.

Coming up from under the wagon, Elyse steps under the raptor engaged with Hazel and thrusts up with her short sword. hopefully keeping the Raptor that was engaged with Elyse on herself.

Holiday weekend in the great white North. I'll be back online Tuesday.

It hasn't been long, but the raptors are getting tired... being only two now, and with the dissolution of the blurry curtain that was in front of them, they realised what has this turned into.

They were 5 raptors attacking 2 defenders, they thought to be easy prey. Now these 2 see that the other 3 are down, and not 2 but 3 enemies are well armed in front of them, swords swinging fast, and now even arrows flying. Odds aren't on their side anymore! Them both turned around to flee.
OOC:
Both raptors use their total actions to run to the south for cover.

Breathing heavily from the sudden burst of energy required to repel the monsters, Elyse turns to her companions and focus' on helping dress any wounds they might have.

Hazel, make room for July to sit beside you for the next hour. We should be able to make the other wagons camp from last night. We should get food and water. We can asses all our injuries and make sure the horse is alright. I'll take the lead and scout for more trouble, but we should hurry.

Elyse set a quick pace, not quite a trot but almost. Heading down the road getting away from the carcasses and the smell of blood.

Rolls

Elyse manages the after battle moment efficiently. She dresses the wounds and sets the pace.
Hazel is shocked by the battle, she knew this situations happened, and had been in a few before, but never against these kind of beasts. She follows Elyse lead in silence, and does her best in caring for July.

And thus the group continues his travels.
OOC:
My part in this introduction thread is over now. Thanks a lot Turanel2 !! I hope you enjoyed it and learned the basics of the system. Psybermagi will continue as DM from now, and let you join one of the other groups of adventures.

Characters advance after the introductory session to become a "Novice" gaining weapon mastery or a trait. After another short time they will advance to "Veterans" and gain whichever of mastery or trait they did not pick. Weapon mastery grants advantage when attacking with that weapon. Let me know what you are picking and add it to yor character.

I also want to clarify Spell Touched. I likes you creative use of the ability but remember that while it can create a wide variety its scope, both space and time, is limited. Ex: cast blurry curtain is too large. While you can create a false face or change the color of a piece of clothing it can not affect areas that large. However you could use it to create a globe of mist that encases a single creatures head for a single round.
Making your way along the road, anxious to reach safety, you grow concerned at the dark clouds on the horizon. A storm would be bad enough but there have been tales about strange storms this year. People vanishing, encountering creatures not local to the area, or strangers walking out claiming to have originated from lands unknown. At the rate the storm is approaching you have at most half an hour.

Hazel

Glancing nervously at the darkening horizon and the roiling clouds draw nearer Hazel calls out to you. I don't think we will reach the base before that comes down on us. We need to find someplace to ride out the storm.

OOC:
I saw that following some of the other threads that I might have asked too much. In my defense Elyse is only three feet tall. All kidding aside, I also used a duration to blurry curtain, which was out of scope for spell touched. I appreciate you liking the creative approach and I'll try to keep that flavor in my play but don't hesitate to tell me if I go too far again. Either fail the attempt (Elyse will learn the hard way) or I can edit the post.
Looking around the grassy plain, Elyse looks for either a copse or a rocky outcropping that might provide some lee side shelter nearby. Look over there Hazel, we can get some shelter over there. Elyse starts leading the way to the limited shelter.
OOC:
I'll pick my weapon/trait when I get home from work and have access to the book.

OOC:
The versatility of Spell touched is its real power. Basic use I try to limit it but if you are creative or the situation works with it then it can be very helpful. I just don't want that one trait to be equal to 10 other things
FYI if you have an idea I do allow custom traits, details to be worked out in you character creation thread.
A nearby small cliff with boulders strewn around it looks to be the best option to provide shelter. At least one side will be guarded and you will have a solid point to press against, should the storm prove dangerous. Elyse scouts ahead for the best route for the wagon, that struggles to cover ground once off the road. After 10 minutes of toil the wagon is parked near to the cliff and you unharness the horse and are working to secure the wagon as best you may.

By now the storm is mere moments away and you feel your fears are being confirmed as sections of the clouds glow with eerie lighting and flashes of green, pink, red, and purple lightning are like nothing you have ever seen before.

Give me any last minute preparations before the storm hits.

OOC:
I chose the perceptive trait and updated my character sheet.
Elyse rummages through the wagon and grabs the largest oil cloth she can find. Securing the top with pitons in the rock face and staking the other end into the ground she helps Hazel and July into the make shift lean-to. The quick shelter is between the cliff face and the wagon. She double checks the horses picket and hobbles the horse with rope to discourage it from running off if the storm gets too wicked. The last thing she does is grab dry rations and flasks of water then crawls under the oil cloth with the others to wait out the storm.

With the wagon as safe as you can make it you all hunker down to weather out the storm. Hazel begins muttering a prayer with a ferver a devotion you doubt she held yesterday. July still seems out of sorts from the fight but is aware of the danger. More annoyed at her current weakened state than the storm she wraps a heavy blanket under her cloak and settles herself under the wagon in the place what she deems the least likely to get wet.

And then the storm sweeps over you. The leading winds pull and push the tarp. Then the rain comes pouring down. The wind and water continue to batter the tarp and the flapping of this proves too much and one of the ropes to the cliff is pulled free of the anchor. Jumping up you to grab the rope you are instantly drenched but you manage to grab the rope and pull the corner down. Whether the other ropes were anchored better or the new arrangement, though not ideal for you, the rest of the tarp now seems more stable.

As you shift to resecured the tarp so you no longer need to hold it you glance beyond it's protection and see the most unusual thing. The rain is glowing a blueish green and everything is growing at a ridicules rate. Grass is growing about an inch every couple seconds and as you stare in wonder you see bushes and trees visibly fill out. Shaking yourself out of your stupor you start to pull you head back into the tarp when you see a tree bend over and use a couple of its branches to push itself free of the ground and begins to sidle away on roots that now writhe and twist to pull it . . . wherever it is heading. As you duck you head back under the tarp you notice that where the rain fell on you all your aches and pains are gone, the skin is fresh and supple.

Elyse pulls a cup from her pack and gathers some rain water. Cautiously takes a sip. If the feeling of well being blossoms through out her body, she drinks down the rest of the cup then she calls out thought the tent to July under the wagon: Drink the rain water! placing the cup outside the tent again she gathers another cup and offers a sip to Hazel then searches for a slightly larger container to gather more of the rain water.
OOC:
If successful in finding a larger container, Elyse will try to gather about a liter of rain water to save for future.
Jul 8, 2024 8:19 pm
Your experiment prices useful but not as you hoped. The rain striking your hands revitalizes them but any in the cup had no effect. Looking closer you realize the glow to the rain fades almost instantly after the rain touches anything. So a sip of the rain itself or simple lying out in it proves beneficial.

Discovering this you encourage the others to drink the rain and they look at you in bafflement. Hazel moved to do as you ask but July just wiggles under the wagon in her attempt to stay dry.

The wind continues to howl and the rain falls and just as you are about to relax a blinding flash of green light with a thunderous roar as the very sure shakes. Blinking you look around and stare as the hill you have been sheltering against begins to shake and move. The tarp finally can't take any more and snaps free of the cliff and it collapses over you. Struggling free you look around and see the hill is now rearranging itself into a vaguely animalistic form well over a hundred feet long and dozens of feet long and climbing to is 'feet'.

I am working to merge your story with another player soon if you are interested in continuing
Jul 10, 2024 11:51 am
OOC:
I am interested in continuing. I am more invested in this character and her possibilities than I have been in years! I hadn't decided how to react to the giant rock monster. I'll post later today.
Jul 11, 2024 12:32 pm
Elyse looks to Hazel and July then calls out: We need to Move! Elyse throws on her pack, goes to release the horse from the picket an tries to guide it away from the moving rock further into the tall grass. We waves towards the other two encouraging them to follow. Elyse doesn't look back and runs trying to put as much distance between her and the rock creature.
OOC:
Earlier in the thread, I mentioned that horses get skittish around me because of my small size. add the storm and the rock face animating into a giant rock creature, I figure I get disadvantage on the roll. Rolled two dice in case my interpretation is wrong, use the first or both as you see fit.

Rolls

animal handling (disadvantage I believe) - (2d6)

(54) = 9

Jul 12, 2024 1:24 pm
[ +- ] Disadvantage
OOC:
Makes sense and I have no problem with it. FYI Disadvantage is 1d6, but hey a 5 works :)
Hazel seems reluctant to leave her wagon but the sight of the shifting land mass heightens her self preservation and soon she and July are gathering up a few supplies and moving away from the creature. All three of you feel full of energy and though the rain is cool it does not sap your strength as you are all now soaked. All about you the plants grow at an incredible rate and the animals you see are acting oddly. None act afraid of your presence or bothered by the storm. Most od of all, they all seem somehow off, though at first you can not think why.

Then you pause to gather up and Hazel grabs the reigns and point back to the horse. Turning you look and it takes a moment for you to realize the horse's neck is growing larger, scales are forming on it's hide, and its tail is also fleshing out and lengthening. July catches up and notices what Hazel is pointing out and draws her weapon, backing off before shouting something about killing the beast before it finishes turning into a monster.
