She looks over at Casanova, trying to determine what the commander is planning, then at the other girls."We can split, right? It's not like a linear party thing? I'll do awful at people networking anyway, trust me." She bounces on her heels a little; how she manages this feat, no one will ever know. "I'll just go beat the guy up really quick and rejoin you at the pub later! Unless any of you want to join in on the fun?"

"Hero Sword Guy sounds very kickable, and I've been itching for a good brawl which does not involve having to watch out for random civilians." Pira looks around, as if expecting the much-maligned pottery breaker to appear before them any moment, and grins mischievously. "Think he'd be up for a fight this time of the day? Might as well go show the guy what happens when one is continuously being a derriere." She cracks her knuckles. "Get those leads out of him too, I guess."

"Hero Sword guy seems like the type we might want to talk to. I’ll head off with miss Pirahna and try to avoid the inevitable pub brawl that always seems to happen. Last time the roof nearly collapsed on me." She goes with Pirahna figuring that if the other girl and the Hero Sword guy fight then Princess Diamond might only need to avoid a few stabs or just stay back.

"Wait, aren't you a princess? It sounds like your kingdom can really invest in some bodyguards to deal with stuff like this. Or, you know, better structural integrity for the buildings." Pira moves closer to Diamond and drapes her arm over the princess's shoulder with unwarranted familiarity. "No sweat, I'll make sure the only brawls we get in are the intended ones! Which is punching the Hero Guy in the teeth!"

SPLITTING THE PARTY? OH, I LIKE THIS
Kurumi and Casanova both head to Pub. In side, you see Bart Ender slinging drinks down the bar. Foamy mugs slide easy without spilling. Johnny Piano plays a tune. And at one of the tables there are four men playing cards. They are Wild Bill Cardshark, Sleeve Ace, Lenny Loserhand and Bob Questgiver. So far Lenny Loserhand is winning, but Chatty Cathy bets Bill will turn it around.
There are other partrons in this busy place, but Chatty Cathy’s overhead expositional blathering doesn’t mention any of them, so they’re probably not important to the Missy Girl quest our heroines are unofficially already on.
Pira and Princess Diamond walk about town. Thundra and Sparkle follow, but you all overhear a couple arguing next to a coach parked next to a sewer grating.
The woman is giving the man an I-told-you-so. Apparently, he dropped the keys to his coach through the grate and now they can’t open the door.
Sparkle can easily fit down the grating. Thundra stands by, ready to rip the door off the carriage, if the key is too lost or gross or heavy for a fairy to carry.
Pira and Princess Diamond would probably be in a socially awkward situation (or grave danger—the horses could gallop off with the locked carriage, make a J-turn, and run the princess over!), but…
There’s a clattering. A shattering! It’s all coming from the farmhouse across the street. On the front porch, there’s a woman in a sun hat. She looks mildly peeved.

She shakes her head swiftly, "Not body guards again. Whenever a dragon, witch, ogre king, or the like comes and kidnaps me the bodyguard is inevitably killed horribly as if to emphasize just how dangerous things are."
She adds with a small pout, "It might just be me. No one else in the kingdom seems to always be near death nearly every day. Jinkies! I’m surprised we haven’t had to dodge some looming disaster so far. Usually something deadly has happened by now…"

"Yikes, guess I see your point. Maybe a bodyguard who can't perish, then? You know, a robot, or an artificial intelligence, or a cyborg kangaroo from outer space... Hey, maybe I can convince that blasted Four-Headed Sage from my homeland to change professions, they're literally indestructible. Might even beat your rotten luck!" Pira muses as they walk down the street. "Or lock it permanently in a paradox. Immovable object, unstoppable force, all that fun stuff."
She grumbles a little as they are all distracted by the carriage, but perks up upon hearing the sounds of destruction. "Yo, lady!" Pira waves at the woman in the sun hat and jogs towards her, filled with an enthusiasm for a potential fight. "Ey-ey-ey-ey, what's going on?"

The Questgivers’ Farmhouse
The woman introduces herself as "Penelope Questgiver.
"That Hero Sword Guy’s in the barn again." She points to a rather large and ominous corn maze that is surely—
—wrought with unspeakable perils!
—the fastest way to that sword boy who obviously deserves a punch!
"I’m just waiting here so I can give him my very strong opinion when he finally gets bored and leaves."
*CRASH!*
*TINKLE!*
*SMASH!*
Penelope sighs at the distant sounds of destruction. "Does that boy have any idea how many hours it takes to make just one pot?"

Casanova scans the room with her... scanner. It's obsessional, it's not like she even thinks there'd be any danger here worth scanning and yet something compels her to scan a new location each time she enters one. Waving the weird feeling away, she glances Kurumi, in case she wants to take point. Given her lack of ability to speak, Cas doesn't think she's the best pick for negotiations after all, but she's willing to take the chance.
Jun 26, 2024 6:26 pm
She looks at the corn maze and then Pirahna and says, "See, that maze right there. I just knew it. Well, we better get this over with. Just promise you won't die in a horrible fashion just to prove how dangerous things are okay Pira?"
She heads in knowing she's going to have to make quick decisions.

Casanova has this funny feeling the villagers can understand her.
SO CAN I
Johnny Piano and Chatty Cathy are fair game too, I suppose, since I named them. Kurumi can probably get Johnny to play a different song, if she wants.
YE CORN MAZE
Princess Diamond sees some tumbleweed tumbling by. Upon closer inspection, they are THORNED tumbleweed. One… two… three… one… two… three… there are three intersections where tumbleweeds pass at regular intervals. It should be very easy to just walk forward and time one’s steps—
—but behind the princess there’s a really HUGE tumbleweed!

closer!
• MISS = you dodge it
• HIT = no damage, but…???
• COMBO = lose one 🧡.
Pira, it somehow won’t hit you even though it’s crashing through solid walls of corn. And did I mention it’s huge? You can kick it if you want.

When Kurumi doesn't respond, and the feeling of being understood grows, Casanova approaches the bar. At first she plays it cool until she catches Bart Ender's attention, then she asks him a question.

Kurumi lets the image sink in and likes the music so far. She will approach Mr. Questgiver and observe a bit his game, before introducing herself and asking him about giving a quest, or if he knows anything about Missy Girl.

Kurumi notices that everyone at the table is playing some kind of game with cards that have different symbols on them.

Lenny Loserhand looks excited when he draws a card with a coin on it, but then his tell (steam puffs coming out of his ears) makes it apparent he was dissatisfied. At the end of the hand, you see that he had drawn The Ten of Coins with three Twenties of Coins. That doesn’t seem bad until Wild Bill Cardshark plays five Stars. "All-Star!" he declares. "Double Bonus!!"
"Not again," bemoans Sleeve Ace, whose hand included four Ones of Up.
Bob Questgiver has five different symbols on his cards. He doesn’t seem too upset as he slides not one, but two peanuts across the table. "Fair and square, Bill," he says good-naturedly.
Next hand, Bill’s luck continues to defy the law of averages. Lenny’s too, in the sense that his hands are always good but never the best. Sleeve Ace always has at least a pair of Ones of Up, but there aren’t cards up his sleeve. He draws them honestly. They all do.
Bob’s hands always show all five symbols. The coin card is sometimes the Ten of Coins, sometimes the Twenty.
They don’t seem to mind having an audience to their game. Bill seems to especially like having one more person witness his winning streak.
Bart replies to Casanova, "Happy to oblige, Miss."

Bart goes on, "As for finding someone, I’m afraid I’m not the best at it. The only missing person here’s Missy Girl, and I hear a lot… but I don’t quite believe it all."
He doesn’t seem like he’s going to be much help. When he mentions places a fairy could be ("down a well, a rabbit hole, one o’ them really narrow green pipes…"), he’s really just listing places a fairy could fit.
He stops doing that when another customer comes up to the bar, wearing a guard’s uniform. With a look of desperation he orders "The usual." Instead of a foamy mug, Bart gets a bottle. The liquid he pours into the guardsman’s glass is bright green.

Giant tumble weed, she’s somehow not surprised. It had been nearly a full hour since she’d been in danger last not a record since she sometimes got a full six hours of sleep. Still, for time without danger while she was awake it was pretty good. Now, all she had to do was avoid death, yet again.

"Ha, no corn maze can handle my awesomeness!" Pira declares in response to Princess Diamond, just before their conversation is interrupted by the arrival of a giant tumbleweed. It miraculously rolls around the fighter herself and then heads straight for Her Royal Highness - which is completely uncalled for, in Piranha's opinion! And besides, if there is one thing to do with a ball...
"Kick time!" She explains happily, and goes straight for the tumbleweed. Ball-shaped objects love being kicked, and it will also give Pira a chance to prove that she can rescue Diamond if needed. Not that she's looking to be hired as a bodyguard, but she did work as a henchwoman before... It's nice to check if she still has the skills for it!

Princess Diamond dodges the giant tumbleweed by diving into a haystack! (She also finds the needle in the haystack mid-jump, and twists to avoid being poked by its poisonous tip!)
Pira gives the tumbleweed a solid kick! It veers off course, crashing through the corn maze walls!
When the dust is clear, our heroines have a direct path to the barn.
But… there is a man made of straw wielding a pitchfork—obviously not just a scarecrow!
THE YELLOW KNIGHT
The scarecrow pivots on its pole, a crazed jagged grin painted on its burlap face. Buttons for eyes stare into our heroines’ souls.
It takes its pitchfork and thrusts it downward, poking the ground. "Hoo, haw, ha, haaaa!" Crows rise from the dirt, black flames trailing from their wings. "Hoo, hah, tee heeeee!" Its pitchfork scares more flaming crows into the air!
Choose a move:
• Roll 2D Sprite to something Deft or Graceful to slip past the crows
~OR~
• Roll 2D Hero to swat the crows out of the air!

"Did you just kick that?" Sure she had seen Pira kick the tumble weed but, at the same time, she was absolutely stunned that it had happened. No one, had ever saved her before!
She looked over at Pira and tiny hearts rose above Princess Diamond’s head. Clearly this was someone important and powerful enough to be considered by the Princess excepting, of course, that Pira was a girl and something about hereditary rule could be a problem. The hearts faded away but, Diamond wasn’t entirely done with her thoughts yet.
The scarecrow meant the Princess had to use her special wand. The wand had a little red button on it that she could press in just such a situation. Magic coursed through Diamond and then out of the wand, a rain of confetti blasted into the face of her foes. That would keep them busy while she escaped!

The new arrival was a thankful, and welcome, distraction from Casanova's attempts to figure out how to drink without a mouth. She'd managed it a few times back at home, but she'd always had the members of Space Command around which seemed to make it work. Weirdly, it didn't seem to work with the barkeep.
She looked the guard up and down, noting his desperation, and tried to figure out the cause. If she could be subtle enough he'd say it to the barkeep and not notice her listening in, otherwise she'd just ask.
