Basil says:
She is faster than she looks thinks a desperate Chironides,

Chiron casts mirror image and takes off due south full speed. Bonus action for more temp hps. Since I’m facing away and running she should not get advantage on any opportunity attack.

Effective hps 18

"Come get me!"
@Basil 2 quick questions. 1: If you speed really is 70, you can make it to the double doors and I think still have 10 feet left. How far are you wanting to actually go? 2: You say you are not looking at Hythonia as you run away, but after you move some, are you averting your gaze? Since she was within 30 feet of you at the start of your turn, if you don't avert your gaze by the end of your turn, if she does chase you the moment she is 30 feet away you would need to make the save.

OOC:
But if she is 30' behind me and im not looking back...wouldnt that be sufficient to avoid her gaze? If not ill take my chances with her gaze, at this point its less dangerous than another hit. Im going ALL the way...that reach she has is killer.... plus there are smaller cooridors she might not fit through. Im hoping to draw her away long enough to Omeros to perhaps help get some of the fallen to their feet... or give him a sec to catch their breath... The Ranger should still be riding and can take some pot shots.

OOC:
Just a reminder that 5e by default does not have facing rules. Facing is a variant rule in the DMG, so by default everyone is looking in all directions at some point each turn. Here is how the aversion option is worded in her stat block:
[ +- ] Petrifying Gaze Aversion
If you look up after you get 30 feet away and don't keep averting, and she gets within 30 feet later, since she was 30 feet away or less when you started your turn, you would have looked at her in the meantime. It is your risk to take.

Taking the risk... probably have a better chance

Hythonia

Hythonia takes her opportunity attack, but when she sees Chironides heading for the door, she smirks. "Yes, run. Get reinforcements for all I care. Victory is at hand." She lands on the ground and begins to slither north as she appraoches the king's daughter still chained to the wall. She looks up and sees a rune glow. "Ah, only 10 minutes until I can perform the ritual to turn that prideful king who doesn't know his place into a gorgon." She then laughs, occasionally keeping an eye on the door in case the centaur tries anything funny. She appears oblivious to Omeros.

Rolls

Hythonia Snakey Hair vs Chironides AC 25 - (d20+13, 4d12+7bludgeoning)

d20+13 : (14) + 13 = 27

4d12+7bludgeoning : (12135) + 7 = 28

@GreyWord,@valdattaMadun,@annex you are all up. Initiative doesn't matter too much right now unless someone is going to attack soon. Hythonia seems to assume Chironides is running with his tail between his leg, and she assumes everyone else is dead.

OOC:
If Hythie thinks Omeros is dead and is focused elsewhere, would that balance out his poisoned disadvantage to regular attacks?

She hit, hence the green check box next to the roll. Rolling if she hit the real you.

Can ranger take some shots on the way out?

From your current location, you would have advantage as you are an unseen attacker, though she would have 3/4 cover as she is about 40 feet above you and thus a lot of the platform blocks her body.

If you wanted to remove the cover, you'd have to get up on the platform. Her passive perception is 19, and a stealth check would be needed to approach unseen. Getting up the wall is a DC 20 athletics check, and she'd hear the splash if you fell back in. If Chironides is not fighting anymore, we can exit combat and you can take the time needed to swim south to the platform to easily get out.

Is the goal to get her to chase you or to get away and catch your breath? Plus, he's poisoned and only has a +6 to hit so he'd need to roll a 19 or 20 on both dice with disadvantage to hit. She is still aware of you, so no advantage as you are not unseen.

So much for a swift death, Omeros thought, as he swam south to where he could easily leave the filthy water.
OOC:
Just working out options here. Once I swim south, she'll still have 3/4 cover while I'm in the water. Any chance my stealth roll to get out has advantage since she's focused elsewhere? Can I get out of the water and onto the platform this turn and attack?

No specific plan from me other than try to maintain my distance and attack. She has left me with that opening, but will wait on annex to before I act

So you plan to stand in the doorway and take pot shots? if so, she'll take 3 legendary actions to get right in your face. She's assuming you ran to the hallways. If you aren't doing that, she's going to try and finish you off, not turn her back.

If you are in the water, she has 3/4 cover due to the angle making the platform cover so much of her. If you want to climb up, you will need to take the dash action as the wall is at least 20 feet high and you spend 2 feet per 1 foot you climb if you don't have a climb speed. You could climb (DC 20 athletics) and then hide behind a pillar (DC 19 Stealth). As for advantage, i'll give you advantage on 1 stealth check if combat has ended, as she will assume she has won. If she is still being attacked, she will be on edge and thus no advantage as she is still looking around her for threats.

Next Round I plan on attacking... then retreating back into the narrower passage ways that she cant fit through... hopefully.
Jul 23, 2024 2:51 pm
Go ahead and make your attacks. No advantage. She still has her eye on you. She spent her turn walking back to the person you were here to save. You'll find out what she does if you do. If you want to let her get distracted, you may want to wait a while so she thinks she is right about you. you have 10 minutes before the king's daughter is transformed.
