Chapter 7C: Speculative Trading

Jul 11, 2024 11:46 pm
Hank and Mercer, let's continue the buying and selling of stuff in the Celestial Voyager cargo holds.

Although I’m interested, I’m still seeing how much I would need for the other side thread I’m working on (the kebble factory one) and not sure I would have money to spare! I will wait for more resolution for the other thread but if I miss the time limits for trade so be it.

I will have to check on our itinerary again (it's been a while is I last looked), but both of those should work for us, as I believe there is at least one world upcoming that will at least give us Posttech, if not Military, bonuses. I'll follow up soon.
Jul 13, 2024 3:11 am
So we need to roll friction for both, and our combined barter (3d6h2+2+2) for purchase price adjustment?
Jul 13, 2024 9:04 am
Sort of. Let me put a quick reminder of the trading rules used in Suns of Gold (Stars without Numbers trading supplement) that we adopted since the beginning and is further described here

As we did before, all trading rolls are using 3d6 (not 2d6) so we have an even stronger bell curve. Smaller numbers are always cheaper, higher more expensive. 10 is the base/galactic market price.

When buying, Hank's focus makes you keep the lower dice (4d6l3) so it will be cheaper. Then we subtract your combined skills and better attribute (0+2+2) to make it even lower, but add Friction (3) and any local market modifiers for the product (0 for both weapons)

So, someone should roll 4d6l3-1 twice to let us know both of those prices. If the group doesn't like any of them, you can discard it and roll 1d10 for another Zyronis trade good, but with increasingly higher Friction. Hank had rolled those weapons in a previous chapter, but we didn't have the time to finish those transactions as you moved on to the rescue mission.

Here are the rolls ...

Rolls

Vibroswords - (4d6l3-1)

(2225) - 1 = 5

Stun rifles - (4d6l3-1)

(2631) - 1 = 5

Oh, wow!

Our next destination is Dianreti III, which is +1 Postech and +2 Military, and is a perfect market for these. We'll buy as much of both as we can.

Great rolls.

PCs have first choice of items and amounts, the rest is available for purchase by the Celestial Voyager.

If you (as a group) still have money left, you can roll 1d10 for another trade good and 4d6l3 for its price (ie. The third item has +1 Friction)

@htech, Ok, it's been a while, so I've long forgotten. Could you please check our Status sheet and make sure all our info is up-to-date? Is Hank's totals correct? It might be, but I'm not sure. Also, is the ship's credits of 261K correct, too?

Also, what was the financial reward for this last mission? Just wanna make sure I am working with the up-to-date info. Thanks!

Thank you for the link and reminder... I'm just going to bookmark that link now...
Mercer would like to buy... 2 tons of each for a total of 20k. ( I was considering spending 25k... but I should probably keep more than 2k reserve...) And we're traveling 3 hexes so that'll be 420 to the CV? 4 tons *(15+(30*3 hexes) ?Edit: I'll get 3 tons of each, for 15k for each item, and 30k total.

It doesn't look like we have enough funds to buy up all that product if we wanted to; a third item doesn't look like it'll happen.
But I know we got 486,400 from the Starfire and Extract from earlier and spent $250k on an armory, so 261K looks right.

2,000 credits for the Celestial Voyager. I updated that account. The status sheet is up-to-date. Thanks!

Are we adding anything to the CV finds with the sale of the Ancient Drive ? Should we roll for that or just get a flat amount?
Aug 4, 2024 8:19 pm
OOC:
I already added a flat amount, as "negotiated" with Mariella. Pending:
- Deduct back payment for the crew from the CV sheet and increase for the crew in the status sheet.
- Deduct Dr. Calvin consultant bonus (2k) and all Synth replacement costs with steep discounts (5k total)
- Players to choose how much they wanna buy
- Hank to say how much to buy for the CV
Aug 5, 2024 10:33 pm
Hank will put up Cr2,500 to split a ton with the CV (he doesn't have enough for a full ton).

The CV funds will get 20.5 tons of the stunners and 20 tons of the vibroblades. (The odd half ton is the split with Hank.) That is a total of Cr202,500 for the two lots. This leaves a good reserve for the ship going forward (so I am not trying to just sell us down to the bottom credit again) and leaves enough tons for others to join in if they wish.

Hank will then try to fill the rest of the cargo space with freight to Dianreti III (our max now exceeds our capacity, so this shouldn't be a huge issue).

At the point we're at, I think going to at least 50% funds makes sense. You can finish off the Vibroblade by getting 25 tons, and get 25-30 tons and still have half funds. (35.5 tons would be a total cost of 252,500[310,620 left], 30.5 would be 277,500[285,620 remaining])
Plus since we're going to a military planet it's a great revenue opportunity.
I'm not sure if it will translate exactly, but I'm sure we can find some way to profit from the Celestial Voyager having more assets. We're looking at a profit of around 150%.

Hank is amenable to that. But, before finalizing the numbers, is Mercer going to get anything for himself? He can easily get up to six tons. Does Peter want to participate? He can easily get one ton. Also, is Mariella going to participate? I have no idea what her funds are.

Give that, doing 25 and 25.5 tons instead of 20 and 20.5 works for me, too. If no one does anything individually, I guess we could make that 28 of the vibroblades and 25.5 of the stunners. That is pretty close to suggestion above. Does that sound reasonable?

Neither do I. =) No NPCs are going to participate in Speculative trading =)

Edit: At least, not directly. Maybe they will through the crew's funds...

OK, let's make it this then:
Mercer gets: 3 tons of Vibroblades; 3 tons of Stunners.
Hank gets: 0.5 tons of Stunners.
Celestial Voyager gets: 25 tons of Vibroblades; 25.5 tons of Stunners.

That buys out the Vibroblades and puts a serious dent into the Stunners. Let's hope the rolls for the sale are good!

If someone could point me to the backpay post, I know I saw it go by, but can't seem to find it. Corbin would be in for a some of Stunners once I figure out what my money actually is.
