As suggested in the recruitment thread, we will select pregens in order of interest posted. Don't be afraid to ask if you can get a particular one, but don't be afraid to play something normally out of your wheelhouse.

1: GreyWord Opting to choose last.
2: ToCa81
3: Balthazar
4: Ronin_14
5: AceRancheros

Hi. Looking forward to play.
I'm playing one Dragonsbane game but we spent most of the time on character creation and intro, so I've only got very little impression of the game so far.

I wouldn't mind to pick last (I mean play anything that has left) and allow other to choose. I'm super flexible with a PC to play.
[ +- ] Suggestion: only pick Aodhan if cerntain

Now as I will be last to pick I am OK if you leave Aodhan to me, but he is not my first choice.

Luckily, spellcasting is very easy in this system! You declare your intent to cast a spell, choose how many willpower points you want to spend (each spell lists what happens when you spend more than the minimum), and then roll to cast. I see I failed to include the spells in the character sheet: I'll add them in immediately. And in addition, I'll list the spells here:

Magic Tricks

Heat/Chill
Notes
The area within 10 meters of you becomes pleasantly warm or cold. The effect protects against cold for one shift of time.

Ignite
Notes
You light or extinguish a candle, torch, or lantern within 10 meters.

Puff of Smoke
Notes
An impressive puff of smoke erupts in front of you. Very popular for dramatic entrances, and can give you a boon to SNEAKING in certain situations as determined by the GM.

Tier 1 Spells

Fireball
Notes
Rank: 1
Prerequisite: Elementalism
Requirement: Word, gesture
Casting Time: Action
Range: 20 meters
Duration: Instant
The spell sends a fireball from your hand or focus at the target. The fireball can be dodged or parried as a ranged attack. The fireball inflicts 2D6 damage on a hit and sets fire to flammable objects. Each power level beyond the first increases the damage by D6 or creates another fireball that hits another target within range.
Gust of Wind
Notes
Rank: 1
Prerequisite: Elementalism
Requirement: Word, gesture
Casting Time: Action
Range: 10 meters (cone)
Duration: Instant
The spell summons a great gust of wind. All untethered objects and creatures up to human size in the area of effect are pushed 2D4 meter away from you and suffer the same amount of bludgeoning damage. Against a swarm the spell deals 2D6 damage. Each additional power level increases the number of dice by one. The spell has no effect on monsters that are Large or Huge.
Pillar
Notes
Rank: 1
Prerequisite: Elementalism
Requirement: Word, gesture
Casting Time: Action
Range: 10 meters
Duration: Shift
The spell raises a pillar, three meters high and one meter wide, from the ground or a stone floor. If someone is standing in that spot, the victim must make an ACROBATICS roll (not an action) to avoid falling off the pillar. If the pillar is created under a low ceiling and the roll fails, the victim takes 2D6 bludgeoning damage instead. For each additional power level, the height of the pillar increases by three meters, which can mean falling damage to anyone who falls off.

Since I'm new to this site and RPGs in general, I'd like to give Bastonn Bloodjaw a try. He seems straightforward enough that I should be able to get a handle on the system pretty quickly. Like GreyWord, I'm flexible as well and totally willing to switch if someone else really wants him instead. I'll also be experimenting with the site, and learning how to post with the right font and formatting, so please ignore any wonky looking posts of mine while I get the hang of things.

Ronan_14 is up!

Nice! Right now we're waiting for Ronin_14 and AceRancheros to accept their invitations. In the meantime, does anyone have questions about the game, the characters, the weather, or anything at all?

Have you run or played this game before cowleyc? Also, how does this adventure differ from the other intro adventure for Dragonbane called Riddermound?

I've run Riddermound for a home group, and I liked the system and themes. This particular adventure has a similar vibe to Riddermound, but is different enough that it won't matter if you've already played Riddermound.

Hello everyone! Happy to be on board. Sorry for the slight delay, I was on the road today.

Looks like I will take on Krisanna the Bold (Halfing Thief) if I'm seeing that correctly. :) I love a sly rogue-like character! Super cool.

Cheers!

Perfect! Everyone has characters, and nobody had to fight over one! Go ahead and save a copy of the character sheet to your own library (as simple as selecting the sheet higher up in this thread and hitting Create Character), and then submit it to the game on the Game Details page.

Great. Hunter were my pick in my first game as well.
OK I have some questions and I have some feedback on the system by the way
[ +- ] how do I like system
I have a few question about skill checks outside combat. More about your DMing style than rules:
- Will DM be calling out a skill check needed or players can add a skill roll as they see fit?
(for example - should/can we roll Awareness, Spot Hidden and Sneaking every time we move from one place to another and what would you do if I roll a dragon on Awareness but there is nothing to be aware of)
- How/who is going to decide if other players could help with that dice roll or not? I see rule clearly state you can not help Awareness. Nothing on skills like myths & legends, riding, sleight of hand, etc. I know players could always come up with "innovative" (read silly) ideas explanations on how one person could another remember something he don't know himself or how fighter in heavy armor could help thief to steal. Do we want to go this way?
Jul 20, 2024 3:52 pm
For the first question, I will call out skill checks as I see them, but I also don't mind if you propose and roll a check. It can save a lot of time, just don't be upset if that roll isn't used.

For the second, this game is all about creativity, even more so than other popular games. You already have to justify the condition you gain when pushing a roll, I love when players come up with reasonable ways to help a roll. With that said, I do have the ability and responsibility to say NO at times; but I consider my job primarily to facilitate a safe and fun table.

Testing to see if my character name appears above my name in posts…

Ah I see you have to select post as character 👍

one follow up question on help. Rules say help must be declared before you roll any dice. But if a player roll with the post where the action is described no other players have a chance to declare help before roll... are we going to ignore the rule on declare before here at pbp? Would it even make sense that the player who is declaring the help rolls the second d20 with his post?
Jul 21, 2024 5:44 am
We'll play that by ear a bit. If you want help with a roll, feel free to ask. But play does need to continue. Don't roll a second die, but we'll let others have the opportunity to try helping.

Hey everyone!

Thanks for having me! I am new to this game and system but have been looking through the rules a bit as I get time. Quick intro from me, my name is Joe, I live on the East coast of the U.S. (Maryland), and between family, work, and grad school classes, PBP games are one of my few hobbies at the moment. I look forward to playing with you all!

Hey Joe! Welcome to the party!

I'm from the East Coast too but from your neighboring Country to the north... in Nova Scotia!

I'm new to the system as well... luckily it looks simple enough!
