Jaylan was incredibly lucky when he obtained the job as a guard in the Sultan's palace. He couldn't believe his luck, when he was appointed to be the guard at the gates of the Sultan's daughter chambers. He wouldn't dare to enter, or to ask to be an eunuch inside, but he was able to get a glimpse of the beauty of the daughter when she passed by when the obligations of her position made her leave that wing of the castle. And he was one of the guards that had to escort her and her enroute. When she first touched him, a mere touch in his forearm, almost casual, but the intent in her eyes, the fire burning on them, leaved a scorching mark on his very soul. In that moment he knew he was really favored by the Gods. Only if he knew.
Despite everything princess Inayah and he fell in love. He was able to sneak into her gardens from time to time, thanks mainly to the aid of her maiden who turned the eunuchs away, that gave the two young lovers to know each other and time to dream as only first lovers are able to dream. They wished to escape far beyond the Caliphate, perhaps to the lands of the North, and be together forever. Unfortunately the Sultan's wife, Inayah's mother, got terribly sick and neither the sages or the clerics could help her. She passed away and only a few months later, to surprise of everyone, the Sultan choose a new bride. Inayah didn't really liked her, and so, they planned. The night of the wedding, when everyone was celebrating, Jaylan would sneak into her chambers and together they will escape once and for all. To a place when they could be really together, to a place where they could finally let the heat that consume their bodies were they were close engulf the other.
In the shadow of the night Jaylan entered Inayah's bedroom. He was so nervous that he didn't realized that the eunuchs weren't there. He walked towards the bed, whispering her name, when he felt a sudden pain in the back of his head and all went black.
When he regained consciousness, he was tied to a wall by chains. In front of him, upon a stone altar, was Inayah, arms and legs tied to the corners of it by leather straps. The eunuchs were there, the four of them kneeled and chanting. The Sultan's new wife walked to him, with a dagger in her hand, mocked him for being so presumptuous that he thought he could love a noble and scolding him for almost taint her. She needed her to be unspoiled and untouched. His punishment for being so bold will be witness what will be happening to her.
Inalyah cried, asked for help, looked at him, begged to him and her, but to no avail. The witch stabbed her, sacrificing her in a unholy ritual to attract and bound a powerful demon. It wasn't quick. It wasn't pretty. A portal started to open above the altar, above her.
Jaylan screamed with her, cried and begged for mercy and help. He prayed, willing to give anything he had to stop that. "Anything?" a voice whispered in his ears "Anything" he replied. The next moments were confusing, as if he hadn't control of himself. A scimitar appeared in his hands, he was suddenly free from the chains... the screams, the pain, the blood. So much blood.
When the rest of the guards finally entered the hidden chamber, they only found Jaylan cradling Inayah's corpse. The eunuchs and the Sultan's wife rested lifeless at his feet. The only weapon they could find was the dagger used to kill the princess, and apparently the sultan's wife and the eunuchs. Jaylan was accused for the crimes, and sentenced to die. He managed to escape though, and when he was fleeing towards an oasis in the desert the fogs engulfed him...
OOC:
Jaylan is meant to be an hexblade/warlock full of sadness, ire and mistrust for the laws and those in power.
