Welcome (OOC Chat Area)

Jul 28, 2024 5:38 pm
This will be the main place to say hi, talk about game setup, and just generally be chill with each other as a larger group. Separate OOC areas will be provided within the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff subforums for the two parties once they are formed.

So before I make voluntolds out of the lot of you and break you up my way, I would like to get a feel for any strong preferences. Please use the poll for me. :)

Adventure Preference Public

I will ONLY go on the Whodunit mission for Provos.
I would prefer to go on the Whodunit mission for Provos.
I have no preference either way.
I would prefer to go on the pilgrimage to the crypts.
I will ONLY go on the pilgrimage to the crypts.

A few more questions, if I may.

1. When it comes to character generation, do you want us to roll the other four ability scores here in public?
2. Should we create a character using the default sheet and then transfer it if and when you decide to upload a custom?
3. How much more detail would you like?
4. Can I have fries with that?
5. Are we there yet?

;)

Thanks!

To answer the question about polles. There is an option to make the first post in a tread into a pole. Its cumbersome and not easy to work with.
This one on the other hand much easier to work with and can be used in any post and not just in a tread,

In regard to splitting the game. I suggest that you make 2 games and have your players there. I would personally be annoyed by seeing a game post, be excited to post an answer, and then realise its the other group :)

Figured out the poll. :) It's up top on the first post.

Sure!

Is it possible to do it inside private tags to me? I'd prefer you be able to keep secrets from each other if desired.

2. Should we create a character using the default sheet and then transfer it if and when you decide to upload a custom?

That is entirely up to you. Some people don't mind duplicate work like that, and others would find it tedious and soulcrushing, and I'm fine with conforming to your preferences on that matter.

3. How much more detail would you like?

A full background questionnaire in forthcoming in the next hour or so. In my old PbP home, it was possible to make private threads that only myself and one player could see. Here, apparently, I'd have to make separate subforums for all of you, which is just too clunky IMHO, so I want the questions answered in your character sheets. One of the reasons I'm considering going custom.

4. Can I have fries with that?

Today we're offering Double Ninja Fries, with guaranteed delivery in thirty minutes or less or we commit seppuku.

5. Are we there yet?

Don't make me pull this game over. ;)

I don't believe that will happen; my intention is to run the games in the two subforums (Ravenclaw Group for Provos, Hufflepuff Group for the crypts) and prevent each group from seeing the other group's subforum. I don't believe you'll get the notices if you can't see it.

Beyond that, both parties are operating in the same campaign world at the same time. I haven't ruled out the possibility of the two groups coming together down the line, or for that matter the distinct possibility that the two groups will come into PvP conflict someday. Keeping you all in the same game makes those possibilities easier to facilitate, should they come to pass.

@Dipper It seems that there isn't anything as a private thread—DM to player—here, although I'm brand new myself. I did find this "complaint": https://www.reddit.com/r/rpg/comments/db6xqy/is_there_a_site_like_gamersplane_but_better/ which sheds a bit of light on the matter.

Although, there is a "Private" entry on the drop down. Let's see what that does:

I sent different questions to Dipper and to runekyndig. Perhaps that will work? Can anyone else see the messages (I can, as the sender)?

There is some group management on different threads and sub-foras. But I haven't used it much

I can see both, but I suspect that's because I'm the DM. I imagine rune will only see theirs and everyone else (admins aside) will see neither.

I was pretty comfortable with that part of it. The part I don't really know about is whether people can just put rolls inside of that.

I see plenty of roll buttons outside the context of the post, but can people just put BBCode to roll inside the post?

Test #2.

Edit: Damn, what a waste of a natural 20. :)

Well, it seems like rolls aren't part of posts but rather something you "add" to them with the functionality below. They do have options to hide the rolls, though, and I suspect hiding the rolls will work like private messaging - as DM, I'll probably still see them no matter how hidden they are.

So to go to the immediate issue, you should be able to just roll 2d6+6 four times in here and "hide everything" so only I will see it.

I'm doing so in here, just to see what happens.

Rolls

Ape: Fist - To hit - (1d20+5)

(20) + 5 = 25

When making a roll you can set the visibility. GM and the one who rolls can always see it all

Rolls

hide nothing - (1d6)

(1) = 1

hide dice and roll

Secret Roll

Secret Roll - (1d6)

(2) = 2

Thanks @runekyndig. I found this thread which helps too. OK, trying it out. @Dipper, I presume I can put the results into the four stats as I choose?

Yup, 100% your call. You don't even have to make a "good" character (IE competent in the stats primary to their class) if you don't want to, it's all about the story.

And I did see your rolls.
Jul 28, 2024 7:26 pm
lets rolls some stats with "Hide Roll/Result" as visibility. I'm assuming that @Avraham used that

Hi all. Looking forward to play.
I see there is a lot of technical talk in the OOC so far.

Gonna use this directly to roll the 4 stats besides the 18 and 7
@Dipper did you see them come through?

As I said in the IC post, my original idea is a wizard. But I am open to switch if that would be needed to complete either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.

And I appreciate both the "team player attitude" there and the willingness to be flexible, but I want you to play the character you want to play and besides, I personally think that party balance is overrated. One time, I had 5 players in an RL game and I didn't allow them any coordination beforehand concerning their characters. I got four clerics - everyone was afraid no one else was going to play the healer - and the campaign quickly became a missionary pilgrimage to beat back a plague that was tormenting a kingdom. Interesting stories come from unbalanced parties.
