Part 1: The Return of the Blazing Meteor

Jul 29, 2024 4:50 pm
The sun beats down upon a winding, dirt road that connects the bustling metropolis of Stonefast to the quaint, sleepy town of Slew. A gentle breeze carries the sweet scent of wildflowers.

As you journey along this idyllic path, describe your character.

What do they look like? What are they wearing?
How do they carry themselves?
OOC:
You are traveling for one reason or another, it doesn't matter much for the one-shot. Say job opportunities or to a festival of importance
Jul 29, 2024 5:54 pm
Amongst the group, though noticeably not as physically close to the others (perhaps a newer member), is a hobgoblin. He wears dark blue robes, his exposed hands and head are red, and his hair goes down to his shoulders before he stops. At his waist is a rapier on his left and a wand in his right. He carries his backpack like it is nothing, not because he seems strong, but like he has carried much heavier many times before. He looks gruff with an slight scowl as a default facial expression. He seems concerned with his surroundings and doesn't appear to talk much unless talked to by someone else first.
Jul 29, 2024 10:50 pm
Chakan is taller than the average human, but probably considered quite short for an orc due to his half-orc heritage. He is wearing the traditional dark robes of his monastery with the edges dyed a bright red to represent the element he is most attuned with. The end of a large flame snake tattoo can be seen peeking out beneath his robes on his right wrist and a well-used scimitar is slung on his back. He has been light-heartedly chatting and joking with Breg and Umr, but wanders over to Dorash who is concentrated on checking their surroundings. He keeps in step with the hobgoblin as they make their way to the next stop. With a small nod of his head and clasping his hands together in greeting, Chakan speaks to Dorash as they walk.

"Good morning my friend, it is a beautiful day. It is good to be alert, but it seems like you are expecting something in particular to appear out of the flowers? What troubles you today?"

Without altering his actions, Dorash replies, "Nothing different than usual. The flowers may hide a plant creature, or be a distraction from a bandit ambush. It is also possible we are being followed. The enemy had the advantage if they are unknown." Dorash talks like someone with military training and the inability to relax.
Jul 30, 2024 2:13 am
The aasimar accompanying Chakan chuckled.

"I, too, endeavor to become more cynical with each passing day, look gift horses squarely in the mouth, and find clouds in every silver lining."

Arcs of blue light ran across Umr's bare upper body and burned like hair on his head, presumably branching across the rest of his body but hidden under dark pants and surprisingly well kept traveling boots. Two daggers hung on his belt, and a backpack and light crossbow were slung over his shoulders. Umr's smile was snide yet somehow friendly, and his eyes twinkled with sunlight and celestial energy as he also admired the flowers.

"Feloran bromeliads, I believe. Quite beautiful. Quite poisonous if ingested."

Breg walks cautiously along the path. Pausing just long enough to make casual small talk with his friends, quiet but friendly.

Nature’s a mixed bag, friends. Beautiful at times, but also unforgiving.

Breg’s hazel eyes gaze warily from beneath his green cloak. He pauses during rest breaks and has a customary way of perching his trusty boy into the dirt, and leaning his lanky weight up against it.

"No amount of worry will keep an ambush at bay," Reginald chuckles. "While a certain level of prudence is understandable... life is for living. It would be a shame to waste it, fearing that which may never come to pass."

The man strolls easily, his helm off so he can feel the breeze in his hair. The sunlight glints off his heavy armor, the ringing of metal striking the ground is heard with each step.

"And if it does come to pass, then we face it and we best it."
Aug 2, 2024 1:00 am
The sun shines brightly over the hills surrounding this isolated pastoral road. A sudden flurry of birds rises from behind a nearby hill, heralding a hulking creature cresting over the top. It is humanoid in shape but with a massive, buzzing purple insect where a head might be, which swivels in a sudden and unnatural movement. A piercing shriek emerges from the creature, which crawls toward the road on all fours. As it approaches, a feminine voice can be heard, "Please, help!"
Aug 2, 2024 1:09 am
Breg gazes warily at the crawling humanoid creature.
What sort of help do you need, replies the ranger to the feminine voice.

Breg can tell that what you are looking at is actually two creatures and the insect like head is a monstrosity but he doesn't recognize it. The larger humanoid creature looks to be a construct also of unknown origin

"Perhaps I could stun it. Any objections?"

If a save is needed from an enemy attack I will roll it for you, feel free to roll flat D20's for any saves you are inflicting on enemies.

Chakan attempts to bring up his scimitar to block or deflect the blow, but he underestimates the automidon's strength and he is critically injured, hurt both by its blade and his own. Blood rushes down his arms and robes, but he crouches down and prepares an attack of his own. He focuses on where ki points should be on what he can reach: the creature's body. He expends what energy he has to power up his attack. As master often told him, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

The insect on top of the automidon pops off of the head of the construct with the strike of Breg's arrow and plops down next to it, a beetle of some type but it slowly gets sucked into the Hungar of Hadar and flatten's into a purple ooze.

Breg approaches the fallen construct. Hazel eyes warily watching, in case the thing isn’t dead yet. Or, non-operational. Or, whatever.

Aug 5, 2024 9:08 pm
Dorash let's the others look for the person that cried for help while he keeps an eye out for more danger.
Aug 5, 2024 9:23 pm
The automidon laying on the ground begins to stir and a part of it's chest opens, revealing a cockpit with two seats. Inside one of the seats laid a disgusting grub-like humanoid with pale white skin and a round, teeth-filled maw, clearly deceased. A large blue crystal sits between the seats, emits a low light before growing dim again.

Thanks for getting that bug off of Myrmidon, that could have been very bad for everyone. And with that a ghostly image of a lean woman with black hair and a blue-emblazoned pilot’s jumpsuit com-plete with masked helmet appears above the crystal.
Aug 6, 2024 3:28 am
Dorash jumps, but then looks at the others and says, "I am not the only one who sees this, correct? I can see through the woman, so this must be some kind of illusion..."
Aug 6, 2024 5:31 am
Used to the strange and inscrutable, Umr pragmatically asked, "Are there more of these insects to be dispatched?"
Aug 6, 2024 3:13 pm
Most certainly. The lean female figure stands tall and confident.

Listen closely, my name is Amora Rei, a phantom bound to this ancient husk of stone and magic. In ages past, a cosmic war raged, a battle between light and devouring darkness. We, the Knights of the Blazing Meteor, stood as guardians against the encroaching shadow of Eucator, the Skittering God-Beast. Our weapons were not of flesh and blood, but towering constructs of celestial might, the Automidons.

With these iron giants at our side, we fought to repel the minions of decay, the Emissaries of Divine Decay. Their twisted purpose was to usher in a new age of nothingness, a cosmic reset at the whim of their monstrous god. Through sheer force of will and the cunning of mortal minds, we pushed back the darkness, exiling Eucator to its infernal realm.

Yet, the shadows linger, always. Like a vermin emerging from the grave, the cult of Eucator has returned, their wicked minds now turned to corrupting the very tools of our salvation. They seek to steal the power of the Automidons for their own nefarious ends. A chilling prospect, is it not?

Will you help me?
Aug 6, 2024 4:25 pm
"War is all I'm good for," Dorash says shrugging his shoulders. "If this is all true then I'll be out to good use. What do you guys think?"
Aug 6, 2024 5:04 pm
"I think that's certainly the tale she's spun. I have my doubts, and my questions, but after that little tussle I'm willing to entertain the idea she might be telling the truth," Reg muses. "Alright Amora Rei... let's assume you're telling the truth. What would you have us do?"
Aug 6, 2024 9:04 pm
Breg leans customarily upon his trusty bow. His longbow perched into the dirt. He watches the image warily, and listens. And, nods.
Aug 7, 2024 12:31 am
You must find the other two Automidons, the Cult of Decay needs their power cores to bring Eucator back at full strength. They shouldnt be far from here, track them down and stop the cult.

Mrymidon needs new pilots, if the cult does summon Eucator full power or not. The Automidons are your best shot of taking it down.

Any takers?

Distracted little Marceen keeps her mind off the new possible experiences and takes her efforts to tracking which she is rather good at. Marceen is rather at home in the wilds. Obviously, she does well as she is a touch on the chubby side. Kinda typical for Halflings who love eating and food.

Unlike many Halflings, she doesn't favor bright clothing and such but as many, you don't see her displaying any real wealth either. She favors greens and more the colors of the wild. You suspect that she isn't your common everyday Halfling. Although she seems to have many qualities that seems to say Halfling besides her size. She is rather happy about those extra 3" that she has in height.

Despite her shorter legs, energetic her keeps up just fine with the entire party and in fact she is required to slow some to avoid outdistancing everyone. Hard to decide where she hides all that energy at.

She does take a moment summon up some aid and checks the upcoming weather. (casts druidcraft). Obviously shorter Marceen can cast some magic. Appears to be rather druidish.

Dorash feels weird being connected to the machine. He is visibly uncomfortable, but powers through it. It seems he is also uncomfortable since he is connected to it while someone is also connected to it. "Should we... Practice moving around?"

The direction of the next automidon is fairly clear but the final one isn't really visible at this time. The path appears to go deeper into the forest and some signs appear to indicate it is heading into old growth areas.

Chakan doesn't recognize the creature at all...could basically be an alien to him

Breg finds it a bit difficult at first, as Dorash isn't used to "sharing" control, but once he gets the idea of what Breg is doing he makes it easier on him. "yeah, sure, we'll go that way. Working in tandem isn't easy."

As you travel down the path you start hearing what sounds like fighting in the distance. Skittering sounds and the sounds that you would recognize as the moving of an automidon are heard.

As you travel Breg and Dorash notice from their high vantage point around the corner a few humanoid shapes can be seen, they haven't noticed your group coming however.

May squirely fast Marceen make a double move (Dashes) while stealthy. She is rather fast at 35' movement. With mobility, difficult terrain isn't a problem, and little her is highly athletic. She really wants to close in on the sweet Dryad. I was thinking on top of the rock pile just outside the spell area (No coordinates on map) and about 25' from the beautiful Dryad with a nice clean run to her.
OOC:
Was thinking that normally I believe 30's stealth moves at 20' but she is 35' stealth, so it is kind of odd number was wishing for 25' movement (Rounded up.) So, she would have covered 50' with a double dash move in stealth?
OOC:
Since she has cunning action, could she bonus action have moved even further. Perhaps another sneaky 25'. Like the tree area that is southwest 10' from the Dryad. There and ready to pounce. That is 65' by crow and I was thinking she was able to move 75' in stealth with a double dash move and a bonus dash move.

Amora Rei's voice beams out from the Hunter Automidon.

This is Automidon, Imperator. It looks like it is missing the power core as well...we should commandeer it and look for the last one. Jester.

The Imperator is similar to the Hunter in design, trading out the Hunter’s blue color scheme for red and its mystical symbols for smoothly carved whorls. It wields a massive red crystal shield and a morningstar with similar red crystal spikes, and a green-and-red cloak hangs over its shoulders.

OOC:
You have a trail, sounds like Breg is outside of the Automidon now so we actually have 3 Automidon seats left. NOTE an Automidon can be piloted fully with only one controlling it so if we don't have 3 who want to jump in we would just need one to work with Imperator.

I can jump into an automation if someone wants a partner, though remember that if 2 people pilot 1 automation then the automation takes double damage and we share a recharge roll rather than getting to each try to recharge. I'm good doing the next encounter on foot otherwise.

Umr opted to stay on foot for now. These constructs fascinated him but also frightened him. Perhaps the only way to conquer the fear would be to jump in at the next opportunity.

Marceen has too decided to go on foot for a while yet.

Reginald will climb into Imperator and familiarize himself with the controls before making ready to follow the rest in their attempts to find the missing Automidon.

Current State:

Reginald in Imperator
Chakan in Hunter
Breg, strapped to Hunter
Dorash, Marceen and Umr on the ground.
OOC:
Note: Instead of Force damage, the Imperator's Megattack does Radiant damage

OOC:
Sry. If we’ve others on-foot, Breg will go afoot as well.

As Breg unhooks himself from the automidon, Chakan will test out what he can see from the Hunter automidon in case he can see the Jester automidon in the distance or signs of another fight.

Rolls
