In the distance, Nindia saw two figures approaching on the ancient road, walking from the opposite direction. As they drew nearer, she recognized them: Brenda and Faramos. Relief flooded through her as she waved weakly, hoping they would see her.

"Nindia!" Brenda exclaimed, rushing forward as she spotted her friend by the stream. "What happened to you?"
OOC:
You are finally together. What do you do?
Aug 2, 2024 7:08 pm
What happened to me is not the question. What happened to Raven Sisters... to my... she can't say any more words, hug Brenda and start crying. When she is finally able to speak she share some of details of their family terrible fate and asks And you, where are You going? Didn't expect to meet you on the road? You come as blessing, I'm afraid I'm not trained for survival in the wild...

She explain that she has no food and here waterskin is empty. Tired both physically and mentally she is totally lost and wouldn't mind to join you where you go.
Aug 3, 2024 12:22 am
Brenda's eyes were filled with concern and determination. "We’ll take care of you, Nindia. You're not alone."

She turned to Faramos.

"I think Nindia and I should make camp while you go hunt something for us to eat. Let's lay low, resupply and rest for today, we talk about destinations tomorrow. What do you think?"
OOC:
What do you do?
Aug 3, 2024 5:50 am
Nindia sits down on the grass finally admitting her exhaustion

Suddenly I feel really tired. I didn't sleep last night...
OOC:
camp, hunt and stuff sounds good. I am AFK and from rulebook today.
Aug 5, 2024 7:35 am
Faramos listened to Nindia story with focus and tension. He knew well enough how is it to return to the village and feel that you may never meet your parents again... although he still had some chances. What - sadly - couldn't be said about Nindia...

"Yes... we will take care of you, Nindia." - he agreed strongly with Brenda - "I know better than you may think how you feel... But now you have strong purpose to live on. And change this damn world." - Faramos felt that it's not time to continue exchanging their former life stories and tried to end the discussion with stubbornness that dwarfs are known for. Even in songs.

"A camp and hunt," Faramos's eyes lit up as he uttered the word, "is a very good idea. But not here. Not on the road... However ruined it may look. We don't know where the Rust Brothers went from your village, Nindio. And we don't want to meet them... NOW. You must gather your strength to exact your revenge in the right way."

"I say: let's head north, even just for a while, to get a proper distance from the road. Then will be time to rest and eat. And HUNT!" - he visibly smiled on the thought.
OOC:
As player - as always - I'm very open to discussion, but Faramos is very sure the party should head north and lower the risk of meeting rust brothers unit. And I think he is right in it:) It may mean a little push that Nindia will have to make, but... it's nothing new for fantasy stories, is it? :)

"Yeah, makes sense. Lead the way, Faramos, we are right behind you."
OOC:
Roll for it. With -1 for the weather. ;)

"Good. Let's depart immediately. We can talk when we will be protected by the hands of forest."

1D6 : (1) = 1

Together, they veered north, leaving the ancient road behind. The forest thickened around them, its tall conifers stretching towards the sky like ancient sentinels. The ground was carpeted with a thick layer of pine needles, muffling their footsteps as they walked. Birds flitted through the branches above, their songs providing a rare, soothing soundtrack to their tense journey.

The air was cool and fresh, filled with the earthy scent of damp moss and fallen leaves. Every so often, a break in the canopy allowed shafts of sunlight to pierce through, illuminating patches of the forest floor in golden light. Faramos led the way, his hunter's instincts guiding them to a secluded spot where they could make camp.

In the afternoon, they stopped. Brenda and Nindia began setting up camp while Faramos prepared to hunt. Brenda unpacked their field rations, only to be greeted by an unpleasant odor. She quickly realized that the rations had rotted during their journey.

"Faramos," she called, a hint of frustration in her voice, "some of our rations are spoiled. We can't eat this."
OOC:
Everyone in the group must reduce their Resource Die for food by one step. This leaves Faramos without food and Brenda with just a D6.

Nindia had none, so... No effect for her. She escaped. That's great, right? =)
Faramos frowned. "Alright, I'll have to catch enough to make up for it. I’ll be back soon."

He set off into the forest, moving with the quiet grace of a seasoned hunter. The forest was alive with the rustling of small animals and the occasional call of a distant bird of prey. Faramos felt a deep connection to the land, drawing strength from its ancient energy.
OOC:
Faramos, please roll for hunting.

Rolls

Brenda - Survival - Make camp +1 from Nindia's help - (3D6, 2D6)

Edit: 1 success, so no rerolls :( :Let's look what Faramos found.
Edti 2: hmmm... Boar - so as far as I understand this, unless GM will allow to engage it with my knife - it can't be caught by trap/Snares ?

Rolls

Survival +1 - Hunting - (5D6, 3D6)

5D6 : (56155) = 22

3D6 : (521) = 8

ANIMAL type - (d6)

(5) = 5

OOC:
Well… As you don't have a ranged weapon and a boar cannot be hunted using snares, you fail the second hunting roll. But (luckily?) with a boar, failure means you enter combat and can engage with your knife.
Faramos
Faramos moved silently through the dense forest, his senses attuned to every sound and movement around him. The sun was low in the sky, casting long shadows through the trees. He had been tracking a trail of disturbed underbrush and fresh prints, hoping to find enough game to feed the three of them. His heart raced with anticipation, his hunter's instincts kicking in.

Suddenly, a low grunt and the sound of rustling leaves alerted him to a presence nearby. Faramos crouched down, moving cautiously towards the sound. Peering through the foliage, he spotted a large boar rooting around in the forest floor, searching for food. The boar was massive, its tusks gleaming in the dappled sunlight.

Faramos knew this was a rare opportunity. A boar would provide enough meat to last them a couple of days, but it was also dangerous prey. He gripped his knife tightly, his knuckles whitening. Slowly, he crept closer, careful not to make a sound. He was within striking distance when the wind shifted, carrying his scent to the boar.

The boar's head shot up, its small, beady eyes locking onto Faramos. With a snort of alarm, it charged, its powerful legs churning up the forest floor. Faramos leaped to the side, narrowly avoiding the boar's tusks. He rolled to his feet and faced the animal, his knife ready.
OOC:
Your combat turn. The boar is at Arm's length. What do you do?
Nindia
Nindia wandered a short distance from Brenda, gathering twigs and fallen branches for kindling. Suddenly, her foot caught on something, and she stumbled, barely catching herself before falling.

Looking down, she saw the lifeless body of an unknown bird, its feathers ruffled and stained with blood. Nindia's breath caught in her throat as she knelt to examine the poor creature. A thick iron arrow with bright red fletching had pierced its chest, the wound fatal and brutal.

She gently picked up the bird, careful not to dislodge the arrow, and hurried back to camp.

"An iron arrow," Brenda said as Nindia came back, her voice low and grim. "With red fletching. That's no ordinary hunter's arrow. It's likely from the Rust Brothers."

Brenda gently took the bird from Nindia's hands, examining it closely. "There's something else," she said, pointing to one of the bird's talons. Attached to it was a tiny metal capsule, barely noticeable against the bird's feathers.
OOC:
The capsule is locked, but can be opened with a successful Sleight of Hand roll if you want. What do you do?

Faramos - Initative - (D10)

You are quite observant, Brenda! Nindia know she just learned a lesson here.
But why would Rust Brothers kill a bird if not eat it? she is wondering

She also think but don't say aloud if capsule is reason they killed the bird, why leave it ? Perhaps it's content will provide an answer

Rolls

Sleight of Hand - (4D6, 0D6)

Nindia failed that roll. Wanna risk pushing it? If so, please edit your message to add your pushed roll with 3d6. Otherwise, I will describe the regular failure in my next post. =)

Tempting to farm willpower. But no - I don't see this as "If you are desperate to succeed" .
Aug 6, 2024 7:17 am
"OH... brother... it looks that I got lucky this time... but the luck is running out for you... a proper hunt... at least!" - Faramos thought, staring directly into boar eyes for a brief fraction of second. And then he attacked... with the full primal ferocity so much more common in animals than in humans or dwarves.
OOC:
Slow action: Stab - with knife. Rolling, then continuing my RP.
Edit: oh, well... not the best roll, but success at least ! :) Not pushing for now, so not too loose the knife. So 1 Dmg for boar. Banking fast action for later. Ending my turn.
He knew well enough that you don't want to charge at boar straight head on... it could become terminal very fast. So he made a fast step towards surprised animal, then two diagonally to the right so he would place himself to the side of the boar. At the same time, his blade, transferred to his left hand, ran upside down along the animal's side. He hoped to cut a few muscles in the legs, which would significantly weaken his dangerous opponent. But he realized that so far he had only managed to wound its side.

Nindia
Nindia's fingers fumbled as she tried to open the capsule, but it was sealed too tightly. "I can't open it," she said, frustration and worry in her voice.

"Well… Let’s keep that capsule and try again later, when we get some lockpicks. Either way, I think this bird was a messenger," Brenda said, her voice filled with dread. "And it was intercepted by someone. We need to be even more cautious. If the Rust Brothers find us here, we could be in serious danger."
OOC:
What do you do?
Faramos
Faramos slashed at the boar's side, his knife cutting deep into its flesh. The boar squealed in pain and fury, but it was far from defeated. It wheeled around and came at him again, faster and more aggressive.
OOC:
Is Faramos going to parry or dodge? You can dodge standing (Move -2) or jumping (roll for Move without modifiers, but leaves you prone). For parrying, you receive +2 for the boar's attack and -2 because the weapon lacks the parrying feature, so just roll Melee and the gear bonus as the situation modifiers cancel each other.

Moreover, please also tell us your next round, after your reaction. The boar has ended its turn, I won't use its fast action this time.

Rolls

Boar - Tusks (1 dmg, blunt) - (2d6, 3d6)

2d6 : (52) = 7

3d6 : (563) = 14

Don't tell ME to be more cautious of Rust Brothers... Nindias train of thought don't follow Brenda's, be it because of she is sleepy or just different. She suggests: No, I think that's good sign they were here and left satisfied. That is - IF it's their arrow. Someone who did not care about the message content.

Nindia consider it may as well be a message sent by Rust Brothers. An enemy of my enemy is - you know... in any case this event will not prevent them completing their job
OOC:
Finish what they started, i.e. gathering twigs and fallen branches for kindling and wait Faramos. She

Faramos seeing that his last attack only enraged the animal stands ready for the incoming attack.
I have face it. Then control it. It's righteous rage. It's only way for just fight. - Faramos more felt than thought inside of him.

Just as the boar was just before him, Faramos made a slight circle with his right leg, positioning himself diagonally to the line of attack. In the same time he tired to hook boar's tusk on his big hunting knife's guard, so he could control the direction of boar charge.
OOC:
Roll pending...
Edit: after roll, continuing.
And it was literally the last moment when the knife's guard clashed with animal's tusk, allowing skillful and strong dwarf redirecting the most of the force generated by anger and fear of animal.
OOC:
Next round.
A fear of animal. Fear Faramos began to feel, as it would flow from the boar through the knife and into his veins. It made him a little sad, but he knew he had to continue.
"I'm sorry brother. We need your meat. By the law of forest. And Nature. I promise to make it fast." - Faramos whispered while preparing to strike boar underbelly.
OOC:
Roll for another stab. Pending...
Edit 2: Ok, I think thats it. He leaves his fast action for later again - just in case.

Faramos
Quote:
"I'm sorry, brother. We need your meat. By the law of the forest. And Nature. I promise to make it fast," Faramos whispered while preparing to strike the boar's underbelly.
He stabbed with precision. The boar, hurt and in pain but not yet dead, squealed and thrashed violently. It tried to escape, its powerful legs propelling it forward in a frantic bid for freedom. Faramos stumbled back, watching as the boar ran, its blood leaving a trail on the forest floor. Despite its injuries, the boar moved quickly, crashing through the underbrush with a desperate energy.
OOC:
It's now at SHORT range.

Your turn. You can either try to chase it (and move back to ARM'S LENGTH, no need to roll, but that would end your turn) or, in this specific situation, I would let you throw your knife at it. This would be a MARKSMANSHIP roll with no gear bonus (as your knife is not a throwing knife - ie. its not balanced for that) and a modifier due to the range that you will be when you throw. If you hit, that would be enough to kill and a dramatically appropriate ending to this hunt. =)

Unfortunately, you need a talent (melee charger) to charge.

Rolls

Boar - retreat - (2d6)

(62) = 8

Aug 7, 2024 12:14 pm
OOC:
I don't think Faramos would throw his knife just yet. But probably will use your offer in coming turns. For know he will chase it. SO I presume the boar will have to make another try of retreat and if failed Faramos will have free opportunity attack at it?
"I'm sorry. Not this time." - Faramos said when he realized that boar is running away and started to chase him.
Aug 7, 2024 12:15 pm
OOC:
Exactly. Let me try again! =)
Faramos chased the boar through the underbrush, his heart pounding as he followed the blood trail. The boar was fast, but its strength was waning. It crashed through the forest, leaves and branches snapping in its wake. Faramos sprinted after it, but was unable to catch it. Yet.
OOC:
Your turn. Again =)
