I might be wrong, so take this with a grain of salt, I believe the tower we avoided was 'The Tower of the Fallen'. Again, I may be wrong so we'll have to wait for CancerMan to confirm or deny it.

I think that the tower of the fallen is the place that the ship took us to. Basically where our journey actually started

A number of major cities no longer represent what they were originally named for. The Tower of the Fallen, for example, used to be a monument to sailors and soldiers lost at sea before it became a major trading port and later a large city. For whatever reason, the name was kept.
