3. Fungal Cave

Graknok voice is angry and carries a sharp edge of bitterness. "The fungus... the rot that twists the dead into those abominations… that’s Grimruk’s doing. Once he was an intelligent and strong leader, an ambitious druid of our people. But now? Now he’s consumed by madness, and his schemes will lead to ruin. What you’ve seen, those fungi-zombies, they are just the beginning of his nightmare."

Morgra’s eyes narrow as she listens to Graknok’s words, and she hisses in disgust. "You’re a fool, Graknok. Grimruk’s power is the only thing keeping us alive in this cursed place. Why are you saying that now? You really think these outsiders will help you seize control?"

Uggoth expression hardens, and he steps forward, his mace at the ready. "You have strayed from the path, Graknok. The spirits will not forgive such treachery. If you side with these outsiders, you will be damned with them. I will kill you all and let your bodies be redeemed by the prophet's magic."

Thrag, on the other hand, snarls in fury, gripping his axe tightly. "You’ve lost your mind, Graknok! Betraying Grimruk? Betraying us? I should cut you down where you stand!" You sense that Thrag's immediate instinct is to attack, but he hesitates and uses only bravado, torn between his loyalty to Grimruk and the respect he still has for Graknok.

She is obviously pointing out they have killed some orcs recently and are not afraid of meeting more.
Okay. As you do that, Nindia will need to enter the room to threaten them. You can choose between SHORT or NEAR distance.

About the orcs, there are actually 3 groups:
- Graknok - who would like to help you destroy the "fungi-zombies" and depose Grumkir
- Uggoth - who will never let you destroy the "fungi-zombies" or harm the "prophet"
- The remaining 2 orcs are either on the fence or loosely allied with Grumkir

Nindia, assuming you get to NEAR distance, describe your next words and roll for MANIPULATE with a +2 bonus: +1 from your reputation and +1 because there are now 5 people who want to destroy those "fungi-zombies", as Faramos called it. Your roll will affect the third orc group, Morgra and Thrag.

If you remain within SHORT distance, your roll will get a -1 modifier, for a total of MANIPULATE +1 (+1 from rep, +1 from larger group, -1 from distance)

And here is the map, assuming Nindia gets into NEAR range. Yellow lines are zone borders. That means Faramos got into SHORT range to talk with them, while Brenda and Korena are at LONG range and with an OBSTRUCTION (the doorway) that prevents them from using or being hit by ranged weapons.

If Nindia prefers to stay at SHORT range, she will be near Faramos.

All zones are OPEN (the clutter is not enough to make them ROUGH)

Nindia sound and pretends fearless, but she is afraid and keep herself close to Faramos. She is only showing the axe, but not yet trying to deliver it to anyone. Like a dog who barks from a distance.

2 success from Nindia, 1 from the Orcs. That's enough to turn Morgra, but not both of them
Morgra's sharp eyes narrowed as she evaluated the group, her cruel sneer fading into a look of careful calculation. The bloodstained throwing axe in Nindia's hand caught her attention, and for a brief moment, she glanced at Graknok. Stepping back slightly, Morgra’s posture shifted from aggressive to contemplative. "Graknok," she hissed softly, though her voice was still loud enough for the others to hear, "perhaps there’s merit in listening to these intruders. If they’re willing to offer up a weapon and handle those fungal abominations... we could use them."

Graknok's gaze flickered between his companions and the group of raiders before him. His expression remained measured, but there was a subtle glint of interest in his eyes as he addressed Faramos and Nindia. "You wish to cleanse the cave of the fungi-zombies, you say? Then I propose this: I will aid you in ridding the depths of these cursed spores, and in return, the cave will be mine. You have no need for it once your work is done. Agreed?" His voice was calm but carried a weight of authority that silenced the room.

Before Faramos could respond, Thragg stepped forward, his hulking form casting a shadow over the others. His grip tightened on his two-handed axe as he snarled, "I say enough talk, Graknok! Let them prove their strength now, or we send them to join the spore servants!"

Uggoth, sensing the tension, moved closer to Thragg, his massive spiked mace ready in his hand. His cold, deep-set eyes bore into Faramos as Uggoth delivered a final, chilling ultimatum. "Destroy the servants, and you will face my wrath. Those spores are part of Grimruk’s will, a gift that makes our enemies serve us even after death. If you dare harm them, I will ensure your corpses rise to serve us as well."

What a funny coincidence. This weapon of my enemy (the orc who tried to ambush us) served me to destroy your servant just a few minutes ago. I admit - I tried to harm your servant. I'm sorry I failed. I destroyed it instead of harming. Nindia laughs. You can have your revenge on my servant Nindia say tossing her throwing axe on the floor in front of Uggoth.

Still holding her scimitar in the right hand Nindia watches the reaction and try to understand what did Thragg mean when he say "Let them prove their strength now" - do he want to fight? If yes she would reach for her dagger to hold in the left.

Uggoth's eyes flared with fury, his thick fingers tightening around the hilt of his spiked mace as Nindia's mocking laughter echoed through the chamber. Her words had struck a nerve, and the sight of the throwing axe, carelessly tossed at his feet, was the final insult.

"You dare throw this filth at my feet and laugh? I'll crush your bones, outsider, and let the spores feast on your corpse!" He raised the mace, the jagged metal gleaming menacingly, his eyes burning with a desire for vengeance.

Nindia draws her dagger in her left hand, while Faramos gets his staff and both Brenda and Korena move inside the barracks.

Before Uggoth could advance and bring his spiked mace crashing down, the sharp twang of Korena’s bowstring cut through the tension in the room. In a flash, an arrow whistled through the air, its iron tip gleaming in the flickering torchlight. It struck Uggoth in the shoulder, burying deep into his thick, scarred flesh. A guttural roar of pain escaped his lips as he staggered back, his hand instinctively reaching for the shaft of the arrow protruding from his body. Blood trickled from the wound, staining his chainmail, but Uggoth was far from defeated. He ripped the arrow from his shoulder with a snarl, his eyes burning with renewed fury.

"Now you've done it," he hissed, his voice trembling with rage.

Uggoth, bloodied but fueled by rage, charged forward and closed the distance to Korena with terrifying speed. He was now at ARM'S LENGTH from Korena and NEAR the party.

Meanwhile, Thragg roared and lunged toward Nindia, his massive battleaxe raised high. His heavy footsteps thundered as he crossed the room, muscles bulging with every movement. Nindia’s eyes narrowed, her rogue instincts kicking in as she saw the downward swing of Thragg’s axe. He was now at ARM'S LENGTH from Nindia and NEAR the party.

Morgra, standing near the edge of the chaos, her eyes cold and calculating, watched the unfolding battle with interest. Unlike her companions, she made no move to engage, her daggers remaining sheathed as her sharp gaze shifted between the clashing warriors. She was waiting, evaluating, her predatory instincts keenly aware of every movement, every potential weakness.

She was also curious, wondering how the dwarf druid would respond amidst the violence. Would they accept Graknok's offer to join forces, or would this confrontation end in bloodshed for all?

With a swift, precise movement, Nindia met the blow head-on, her scimitar flashing as she parried the brutal swing. The clash of steel rang out, her scimitar barely holding against the sheer force of Thragg’s attack. Sparks flew from the point of contact, but Nindia stood her ground, muscles straining as she pushed back.

"Not so easy," she hissed, twisting her blade to deflect the axe to the side. Thragg stumbled for a brief moment, his attack thrown off balance, and Nindia seized the opening, slipping back into a ready stance.

Wow! Your descriptions make this fight really exciting! :) So Graknok is standing still and observing too?

I will describe Faramos actions as he would draw the Hand Axe, not his Staff - as that was what I described before entering this room. Besides he would choose this weapon for this occasion:)
Faramos was so impressed by Nindi's ability to provoke his enemies that - at first - he didn't realize how powerful her insults were on the hot-headed orcs. Before he blinked twice, the fight was already underway... or, should we say: in full swing! And that immediately awakened his inner instincts and forced him into action... or rather: to hunt for a trophy. In the form of: two unruly orc heads!

Quickly assessing the situation and planing his strategy Faramos, seeing that both of his trusted female friends are standing to the big orc head to head, decides to help the newcomer... wanting to even Korena chances. He runs with all the force of his short, but bear-strong legs straight into Uggoth, holding his Hand Axe with both hands at each of its ends, using it more as device for transmitting momentum, rather then normal weapon, in hope of shocking him and making him loos some of his resolve.
OOC:
Mechanically it would be FA: Run to Uggoth (to become Arm's length) , than SA -> FA: Feint to trade initiative with him. So I believe the new order will be:

Korena, Thragg, Faramos, Brenda, Morgra, Nindia, Graknok, Uggoth

I'm leaving FA and SA On in status table - as I think we will be already in next round.

Oct 15, 2024 12:04 am
Korena's breath came in shallow bursts as the weight of exhaustion began to creep into her limbs. Sweat dampened her brow, and her arms felt heavy, but she refused to let it slow her.

Retreating a few steps back, she nocked an arrow and drew her longbow, her fingers trembling slightly from fatigue.

With a sharp exhale, she loosed the arrow. The arrow shot through the air with a sharp hiss, striking Uggoth just above the brow. The impact cracked his iron helmet, splitting it down the middle with a metallic snap. The jagged halves tumbled to the ground, exposing his scarred face and the wild fury blazing in his eyes.

But Uggoth didn’t falter. Blood trickled from a shallow gash on his temple, yet the hulking orc merely grinned through gritted teeth, unfazed by the wound.
OOC:
Uggoth took another 1 damage to his Strength. His armor is now damaged as well (1 point) and his helmet is broken.

Thragg, instead of swinging his axe again, he pivoted suddenly, using the flat of the weapon like a battering ram. With a brutal shove, he slammed the heavy axe into Nindia’s side, trying to knock her off balance and drive her to the ground.
OOC:
1 success on the shove. Nindia, you can dodge if you want, with -2 to stay standing (but to parry a shove, you need a shield). If the shove is successful, you fall to the ground and is prone
Then Thragg snarled, his tusks gleaming in the dim light as Nindia’s taunt struck a nerve. "I’ll split that clever tongue of yours!" he bellowed, raising his battleaxe high once more. The weapon, massive and jagged, hissed through the air as it descended in a deadly arc toward Nindia.

Trying to use the brief moment he acquired with his slam at Uggoth and Korena's bow shot Faramos attacks furiously with his hand axe kept tightly in his strong grip of both of his hands, swinging it from bellow and up in hope of hitting the nasty orc into the groin.
OOC:
That would be SA, Slash at orc, will continue after seeing the roll result.

Looks like another 3 damage for Uggoth if nothing will be done with Faramos hit:) Depending if he will be still standing after this or not, Faramos would use his FA in this way:
- Uggoth is fallen: he runs towards Thragg and the girls,
- Uggoth is still standing: Faramos tries to shove him,

You can roll for this if you want for me:) Or I will roll and narrate when I will get to know how bad it was for Uggoth:) End of the post for now.

Yup. That's round 2. You failed. Nindia is now prone after that shove and he slashed at you. He had only 1 success, even with that +2 bonus.

You can dodge his Slash (using your slow action) with a +2 (its easier to dodge a slash and you are already prone, so no need to stand) or parry (free action because of your talent).

What do you do?

I will resolve Faramos round after that.
