Everyone's in the system here, so it's really just a matter of stopping the video at the right spots and then feeding the faces into the computer. It'll be a Research check, then, so you'll start with 2d10+4. -- Specialty: No -1d
-- Push: Exert themselves (take Stress or Fatigue) to gain an advantage [ optional +1d
-- Assistance: All of you can work together on this, so +1d
-- Condition: n/a
-- Equipment: Yes, +1d
So that's 4d10+4, keep the highest two. Reroll 1s and 10s.
You also need to choose an approach:
Forcefully Precisely Discreetly
Quickly Carefully Insightfully
Boldly Sincerely Artfully
As you can see from my test, we had 3 ones (-30) and 2 tens (+20). so I'm starting at -10. Then I take my two highest (which in this case are both tens) so -10+10+10=10. Mixed success.

Seth attacks the repository of biometrics on the Station's main computer with precision eliminating from the offset anythinf that does not have 99% similarity to the input. As he scans through the return value, with great care he isolates distinct markings of note upon the three suspects, eliminating from the pool anything that didn't match. Artfully he compared gait, profile, silohuettes, and body composition from the remaining return values.
When the final return values manifested he immediately uploaded the information to the group sharepoint. Requesting his partners sign off upon opening the document. Had he done this before?

Bob has no clue what the android is doing, but it's probably for the best. He focus on the faces of the suspects and tries to memories them in the old fashion human way as, knowing Seth, the android likely takes over the entire facility's system.
At some point, he just turns away and looks for any clue about how frequent these "low power modes" are...

I did not know you could do that with a single roll. I don't have a great extra to give Seth here, so let's give him an extra advantage on his next roll. The one that did the kneecapping is Frank Battista. The other two are general muscle he employees from time to time. The other's info isn't very revealing and in the grand scheme of things probably isn't important unless you can prove they were involved in the death. Frank though, Frank is interesting. The surface material is that he runs Starfire Lounge. You've seen the markers for it at the top of every map you've seen here. It's the jewel of the station, everyone's favorite spot to hang out. But from financial records, you can see that Frank is living far beyond his means -- if his only means of income is the Starfire. He's also got a few open police files, really old ones, that are still open. These claim he's a provider of more... illicit services, but there's nothing even close to recent, and no one appears to be assigned to those files. Bribes perhaps?
A few more video and financial cross-checks and you see that he often makes sizable withdrawals from several accounts, and like clockwork, other down-on-their-luck individuals make equal deposits. Exactly a month later, the process is reversed. He's a loan shark on top of everything else.

I think it's safe to say that any info he found, you also found. Unless there's something that you tell me about ahead of time that you'd like to keep hidden, let's just assume that all info is shared for sake of time.Nov 20, 2024 12:02 pm
"What's the probability of the equipment killing Adam during that hour of low power mode?" Bob asks Seth, curious about what the android will come up with when he runs the numbers.

OOC:
Since Seth will undoubtedly come up with the correct answer, I will indirectly answer for him.Nov 25, 2024 10:18 am
"Well that doesn't help much does it?" Bob looks back at the screen. About twice Seth thinks? "Anyway. I guess if there's nothing else we can check here we probably should have a look at the crime scene, before visiting this Starfire Lounge. I could actually use a drink."

"Well, it is well within scope. Though I am examining the wounds on the cadaver..."
Seth trailed off as he attempted to ascertain the direction that force was applied to Adam's cranium. He was not the best field medic, but reasoned that he could easily identify the source of the fatal blow when choosing between a heavy blunt object in a man's hand versus the shearing force of a machine. He sought discretion between the two modes, using his insight to form a mental image that could sincerely represent the fatal blow judging the position and damage to the corpse.

Seth takes a moment to key in on the altercation on the camera. He's able to record all the details, and will eventually probably be able to tell if this altercation resulted in Adam's death. Right now however, he cannot. The corp never ordered an autopsy. Cause of death was easy to pinpoint as far as they were concerned. Pieces of head in machine, death. They didn't examine any other wounds he may have had. You, however, as deputy marshall can order an autopsy, if you're so inclined, and then the data that Seth has gathered will come in very handy. The incident report is attached in case I forgot it before.

With the details firmly fixed in Seth's memory circuits, you head for the scene of the death - or crime, if Adam's suspicions are proved correct.
Adam follows you, briefly becoming overly-engaged in an looping conversation with a Vend-O-Bot. It seems never-ending, but he abruptly veers off from it and catches back up.
When you arrive at the Protein Production Line, you are met by a cordon and two gentlemen who excel in having muscles at the expense of everything else, including their conversational skills. They say nothing, silently threatening you with dismemberment if you cross the cordon. Or even approach it. Or look at it. Or exist in its general vicinity.

"Well, the incident report looks ok." Bob mentions as he reviews the new evidence. "Beaten up in the back and decapitated by machine. We just need to figure out what happened in the middle. I wonder if Adam would need to be standing inside the food processor to loose his head... "
As they approach the Protein Production Line, Bob briefly stops annoying Seth with his obvious observations. But then, not for long "Looks like we got company. This is why I need the gun. Remind me to go and get it after this."
Ignoring the gentlemen's personal space, Bob happily wave the marshal badge "Good day good gentlemen. Karen sends her regards. We're here to investigate the incident if that area happens to be available now. "

Seth saw that Bob was feeling conversational, so he raised the reflective radiation shield from his mask. The deep garish scar on his left eye had not yet fully healed. His gaze retaining that criticality of a wild animal, one that was far too intelligent. "Move." Seth, being completely oblivious to social queues simply approaches the muscled hulks. And when they resisted Bob with their body language he secured the threat. He gives them a cursory inspection before his posture changes and he rises to the balls of his feet. The empty eyed stare of a synthetic, cold, calculating, detatched. Seth, being convinced he was also human, had no means of knowing what kind of threat he posed. Only, cold certainty that their aggressive posture was just that, posturing.
Seth's proficiency rating included his security chit on the readout. It rated him as S+ when it came to close quarters combat and S on his firearms proficiency. How a reactor technician had come by that skillset was anyone's guess. Seth was not posturing, he was not pretending to be tough. Most special forces only ever achieved a AA rating in CQC, that was common knowledge. With those empty shark's eyes he stared through the threat having assessed their weaknesses almost as soon as he spotted them.
"Now."
Seth knew he was the most dangerous thing in the room, he wanted the goons to know this as well.
Forcefully Quickly Boldly
Bob is the good cop
Seth is so much worse than the baddest cop

The guards are happy -- in that unemotional, distinctly non-happy, growling way that they have -- to leave the room to the marshalls. They have more important things to do, heads to back, etc., etc. They stand aside and let Bob and Seth in. They glower at Seth as he passes. No one want to fight an android, but they like it even less when the android knows that they don't want to fight him. Then they stalk off, leaving you in sole possession of the scene of the alleged crime.
The polaroids above -- courtesy of the Polaroid Corporate Security Division -- were taken earlier by the Marshalls, but the scene is much the same. Everything in the polaroids could be important; nothing outside of them is. The only thing that doesn't have a decent image captured of it is the vending machine that's standing right next to the door; apparently whoever took the pictures just didn't think to turn around. It's importance is unknown.

Anything (aside from the vending machine) that could possibly produce a clue is in the photos. If you're not sure what something is, just ask. The vending machine may or may not yield a clue. I only point it out because it is -- for some reason -- not in the photos.Dec 2, 2024 3:55 pm

Bob looks inside, trying to figure out if there is anything suspicious about the bars inside, then around to find how to open the machine. Even if there is nothing to see there, it might be good to know who these things work. After all, they do have permission to open them and find whatever is left of Adam's brain.
