"Certainly." Jaina makes a quick gesture in the air and a leatherbound book floats toward into her waiting hands. She flips a few pages and hands the tome to Meridia. Thalnazz looked unsure but stood over Meridia's shoulder. "It has been some time, but I will do my best."
As the two elves study the tome, Jaina looks to Dormir. "This will all be over soon. Just hold the gem on your open palm."
Gazam, Allyk, Mul'Zeb, and Wembil stand with their backs to the wall, watching and waiting. Gazam casts a quick spell, a shimmer ripples across his body. Allyk cocks his head at the orc. Gazam shrugs, "Just in case."

After reading the spell book Meridia is ready to assist I the ritual. She makes no effort to hide her ability to channel arcane power during the process.
Oct 6, 2017 12:41 am
Thalnazz takes his place beside Meridia and Jaina and whispers, "Before I found the Light, I basked in the Sunwell."
At Jaina's signal, the trio begins the ritual. A large grey sphere of energy enveloped Dormir as the two elves reach out their hands toward the gem in Dormir's open palm. The grey sphere lifts like a curtain, allowing Jaina a shining purple-white spectral body into the fel green light beyond. Jaina's spectral self is lost in the light, but purple-white light streaks around the green as Jaina strains in concentration. This goes on for several moments before an unearthly roar rumbles from the gem's light and Jaina gasps, leans to the side, and clutches Meridia's hem. She's in trouble.

Unsure what to do, Meridia seizes control of the ritual, with the intention to give Jaina a chance to recover.

Following Meridia's lead, Thalnazz takes full control of parting the veil. He seems to have it under control. As Meridia takes Jaina's place in the ritual, a spectral version of herself comes into being and heads into the gem's light. Inside, she stands in a tunnel. Chaotic energies swirl and race around the seemingly stable corridor. Weightless and moving by thought alone, she sees the end of the tunnel is a point of fel light. "Come to finish what the little human couldn't?" A voice echoes, laughing.
A flash of green lightning arcs from the portal opposite Meridia.

Roll a Reflex save with advantage and take your action. DC 16 2d6 damage, save negates.

Lets see how that save goes...
Barely willing herself away from the arc of green lightning, mMeridia senses her connection to The light well and Thalnaz through the ritual, she draws upon the still unfamiliar energies of the light to try and scourge the demon into submission, she through a firebolt of holy light. What are you fel demon, what purpose does the gem I speak to you through have.

Meridia's "holy bolt" races across the tunnel and slams into the portal, eliciting a grimace of pain. Meridia hears an echoing voice from behind her, "Do not become distracted by the demon! You must collapse the tunnel! Sever the connection!"

Rolls

Ref save

Oct 14, 2017 12:05 am
Nodding to the distant voice, Meridia takes advantage of the demons destruction and reaches out to the sides of the tunnel trying to collapse it.

Rolls

Arcana - (1d20+5)

(16) + 5 = 21

Good roll.
Meridia seizes the arcane bonds of the tunnel, unraveling the framework of the tunnel. The conduit begins to breach, allowing the surrounding chaotic energies in, resulting in a volatile reaction between the energies. A roar of defiance and rage echoes through the tunnel as Meridia is surrounded by exploding magical energies, and she is thrown back through the portal.
Meridia, Thalnazz, Dormir, and Jaina are thrown back by the explosion.
All are battered and bruised, but alive. There is no sign of fel magic (except maybe for Gazam's slight magical shimmer), and everyone collects themselves. Pained is angry and back to her protective stance at Jaina's side. Jaina has taken a seat, and Thalnazz goes around healing those who need it. Jaina reassures everyone, "I believe that will be the last of the trouble that Dormir's gem will bring us. Now that the connection has been severed, it would take another agent of the Burning Legion to create it again." Jaina gives the dwarf a concerned look. "Which begs the question, how was the connection created in the first place?"

Rolls

Conduit collapse explosion - (4d6)

(3216) = 12

Almost forgot
QUEST COMPLETE
Oct 23, 2017 6:43 pm
Looking around in amazement after witnessing what he could only describe as witchcraft, Dormir responds to Jaina, "Aye... th' gem is silent now. Me memory has it that th' gem was always alive in me mind, from th' moment it was showin' itself t' me. It laid there, buried in th' mine shaft wall, glowin' bright t' bribe me. Th' bribe worked, alright, and me arms ne'er slowed the pick from swingin' till th' gem was in me hands. That's when me mind heard th' voice callin' from th' gem. It was gleeful."

Remembering the memory of when he first held the gem, Dormir's eyes glaze over as he focuses on the memory, when suddenly, his face shifts and he continues, sullen. "It's silent now, though."

Jaina brow furrows in concern for the dwarf. "I'm sorry Dormir. The Burning Legion does terrible things to further their twisted goals." She sits up straight as she addresses the entire room. "We have thwarted one of the Legion's plans. No doubt there are many more hidden all over Azeroth."

Ok where do you want to go from here? I could try leading you or players take the reins.

With Xjremon gone for now, we'll call this down time.
So Meridia can do whatever she's like to do for the time being: studying, exploring, roleplaying, etc.

Lets do some RP. Do you plan to try to find some new PCs or are we going to fill time till people return?
Frustrated Meridia let’s go of the weaves of light energy she was attempting to command. She wipes some perspiration away from her brow, she is clearly exhausted from the intense mental focus. It’s just so different to work with Thalnazz, I mean some things are familiar but the healing and the blessings are just too weird. How is it that you learnt all of this? Maybe I’m going about this all the wrong way. She contemplates as she picks up a notebook and begins scratching some notes about what she just experienced.

Until Xjremon comes back, it looks like it will be just you and me. If anyone else returns before I write their character out, cool.
If not, I'll remove them from the game. I'm feeling disillusioned about the pace of these games. I think it might be best to keep the group small.
Thalnazz gives Meridia a warm, paternal smile as he sits beside the fellow elf. "Light and arcane magics are both forms of energy, but perhaps the same frame of mind cannot be used to wield both. The Church of the Holy Light teaches Three Virtues." He numbers them off with his fingers. "Respect, tenacity, and compassion. These must be mastered in order to be ordained, but that is not the only way to wield the Light." Thalnazz stood, taking a place about 8 feet from Meridia. "Remember the Sunwell." Thalnazz speaks with pride and waves a hand before him, a shining illusion coming to life. "Through it, our people wielded powerful magic." The illusion was of Silvermoon, at its peak. The illusion flashes through scenes of High Elves living their lives, using magic in all things. Children play keep-away with a ball without ever touching it. Families clean, maintain, and even build their homes with enchanted tools seemingly with a mind of their own. Protective wards raised up like translucent walls around the city. "But The Sunwell was not the only source of arcane magic." The illusion fades away with golden light. "Dalaran does not have a Sunwell, and they do not suffer the loss of it such as we." A pained expression crosses his features before he continues. "The Light requires a resolute conviction. There are those who wield its power without following the Church's Three Virtues." He puts a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I have faith that you will find your own path to walk in the Light."

Meridia returns to the lightwell and begins probing it again golden light filling here eyes. I do miss the Sunwell. I recall long days basking in its light, I was an acolyte of the Well you know before I started dabbling in the arcane. The lightwell flares up a bit This lightwell reminds me of what we lost, and in some way placates that itch which the Sunwell’s loss created. She looks of in the distance for a moment, then relinquishes her hold over the lightwell. I’m sure with time I’ll figure all this out. She scrawls a few more notes in her book and then closes it up. I think that’s enough for the day. Shall we head out into the town and see what we find?

Acolyte of the Well? The Sunwell was a font of arcane magic.
Thalnazz smiled in agreement with Meridia and together they strolled out of the inn they had been staying at, into the city streets of Theramore. Like most human settlements, Theramore had a barracks complete with Alliance soldiers training outside, a temple to the Light, areas for mounts and other beasts of burden to stay, and various shops. The city guard was ever present - most likely due to their close proximity to Horde territories, and the harbor was, of course, a bustling hive of activity. Trade seemed to be done at the docks rather than through the gates. Theramore was more than just a human city. Thousands of Alliance citizens fled the Eastern Kingdoms after the Third War, and they began to share Kalimdor with the Horde. Among the humans, you can see dwarves, gnomes, and a few high elves. As to be expected, there is some whispering in your wake. They are mostly of wonder and excitement.
Nov 25, 2017 11:53 pm
As Thalnazz and Meridia take a stroll around the city, most of the group stays indoors. Wembil is, as usual, nearly attached to Allyk's hip. It's been an agonizingly slow process, but the gnome has finally got the former human to converse if only a little. It's almost completely shoptalk for the two engineers. Mul'Zeb and Gazam can be found together most of the time. The troll seems to keep watch on the orc who brashly walks around the Alliance city, perhaps daring fate.
Gazam seems to be a catalyst for infighting among the guards. Mul'Zeb brings the orc, sporting a nasty black eye, back to the inn after the fourth fight in as many days. "Perhaps if I stop healing you, you might learn your lesson and stop picking fights." Thalnazz chastises Gazam as the elf once again heals the orc.
Gazam scoffs. "These humans are more bloodthirsty than the orcs of the first war! Those two were ready to fight before we came here." Thalnazz looks unconvinced.
"None of dem be fightin' if ju not be pokin' de bear." Mul'Zeb points an accusing finger at Gazam, which the orc dismisses.
"This Alliance is ready to fall apart without my help. You heard what they said." At that, Mul'Zeb went quiet.

In some sense the confusion came from the fact that I forgot that acolyte was specificly a religious term. Though I’m sure there are rituals and traditions around the the Sunwell which could be ‘religious’ with out requiring the Sunwell to be a divine power.
Meridia rolls her eyes. Speaking from experience the Alliance is always about ready to collapse, they all only play nice when someone’s attacking them, and even then it’s often only when human lands come under threat that anything actually happens. She turns to Thalnazz Or do you think I’m being too jaded after what they let the scourge do?
Nov 26, 2017 1:48 am
OOC:
Ok I see what you mean. I'm thinking of an acolyte as more of a priest-in-training for a temple. An Acolyte of the Sunwell would be exactly who would have been ordered to shut it down, which would explain why Meridian was so close and thus affected.
Nice.
Thalnazz raised an eyebrow at Meridia's tone. "I think those feelings of resentment are perfectly understandable after what happened. Cooperation can be difficult. If one party does not act in the best interests of the partnership, then there is most certainly unrest and possible destabilization." You get the feeling Thalnazz is doing his best to be diplomatic, not offend anyone, and remain somewhat neutral.
