"Aye, let's go. We have much to discuss with the others" Before leaving, Elster will say a few prayers.

"I have heard a brief mention of the large amount of undead here, does anyone know why there are so many?" Tonby smiled and thought to himself about the undead here and the "Death Curse". They had a connection, perhaps the same source, or same purpose. He could speculate but discovering the truth of the matter is what is important.

Kaya’s House of Repose - bar
Bartender
They have been there are long as I remember Bartender who looks like 40 years old add when he see your surprising look You don't ask why is water in a river or insects in the air, do you?! I don't ask why are undead all around Port Nyanzaru. he take time to consider and add Actually, it has not always been that way. Adventurers keep exploring remains of civilization that lived in the Chult centuries ago - that should have been before undead plagued the land

Returning to Kaya’s House of Repose
Elster, Larsie and Yendil when they are returning to the inn find a poster on a message board outside inn singed simply as Azaka and a contact information of merchant prince Jabal is provided.

Kaya’s House of Repose - dinner

When everyone gather at the table for dinner and wait for dinner to be served an a strange pair of energetic persons enter to inn: a tall halfing.

They scan the inn and the human goes to to meet bartender and chat with him, while halfing approache your table
Gondolo
Welcome to the Chult, my dear. Chult treasure abounds! Are looking to for ancient sites and sacred places? We know all of them. You’ll be swimming in gold and magic when we explore them together! All the other guides will lead you in circles and make you do all the work. Don’t be fooled! When we return to Port Nyanzaru, you will have tales and fortunes enough to last a lifetime.
Oh I forgot to introduce myself. Gondolo an official guide certified by the merchant Prince Jabal. And over there are the bar is my partner - Faroul. Why pay for one guide when you can have TWO for the same price! We have the smarts, the goods, and our own triceratops!

The talkative halfing say this all on a single breath - before you can even try to interrupt him
Oct 6, 2024 1:53 pm
When reading the poster, Yendil gets interested in at least contacting this guide. Especially because they are upfront about the fact that they themself have a mission to go on, and need adventurers to help retrieving their mask from this pterafolk. Also, Yendil want to learn what pterafolk is.

Yendil looks at the talkative halfling in standing at their table, and tries to get some insight on the man in front of him, if his motivations are true.
OOC:
Rolled an insight if necessary, feel free to ignore if not
"Nice to meet you Gondolo. We are indeed her on an expedition, but are still trying to find our footing in this land. What can you tell us about the surrounding area? Where have you been to the most?"
OOC:
Edit for disadvantage. I totally forgot, sorry!

Adventurers were always causing trouble back home and it was the same here but the bartender probably didn't want to hear about it. Tonby joined the others when they all returned.

Tonby was about to begin asking the others about how they faired around the city when the Halfling approached. He said his name was Gondolo. He sounded like one of the charlatans back home selling phony magic. A fast talker with nothing but flash. "If you don't mind me asking, why haven't you gotten these treasures and retiring to the good life in say, Neverwinter or wherever you prefer if you know all the spots?"
OOC:
@GreyWord can I roll an insight check on this guy? He sounds like he is full of it.

While the others chat with Gondolo, Larsie will keep her attention focused on the man chatting with the bartender, trying to get a read of the conversation. She is more than a little suspicious of the new arrivals.
OOC:
She's trying to determine if it's a friendly conversation. Does it appear they know one another?

Now that the whole group was together again, Elster just sat back and listened. He would speak up if needed of course.
OOC:
I want to talk to the innkeeper after dinner, but nothing else for now.
Oct 7, 2024 5:26 pm
Ren wanders down in time for dinner, looking the worse for wear. Other than some pleasantries, he doesn't do much beyond eat... although he will inquire where some of the group found much more comfortable looking clothing, and debate getting a set for himself before they set off on their quest.

Gondolo
My dear friend. Jungle expedition is not a two man journey...
Gondolo burst in words explaining that jungle expedition requires investment and they just don't yet have enough to organize their own expedition. So do you plan to organize an expedition? I'm sorry to waste you time if that is not your goal in the Port Nyanzaru.

He leaves you a
[ +- ] brochure

and leaves inn with his partner, letting you know he would come next day just in case you would decide about expedition.

Larsie can't hear what the man is saying as he turned his back to you, but she hear most of the bartender answers. There are some small-talk about weather and health, but bartender also explained to man that your party is the only newcomers in the inn.
OOC:
Still waiting for insight with disadvantage to be rolled. Without rolling an insight it is clear that the halfing hopes that your goal in chult is to organize expedition hunting treasures and he would like party to hire them as jungle guides. Sorry to not let you keep talk to NPC, you will have the opportunity to meet him again
You eat your dinner and share whatever you have discovered today and start to plan next day.
OOC:
What do you think you want to do tomorrow?
What do you still want to do tonight?

OOC:
I've added the disadvantage roll in my previous post.
Looking at the halfling leaving the inn, Yendil will say under his breath to whomever sits next to him"Surprising feat for a guide, to leave your group with more questions than answers. Not sure what I think about that yet. Also, wasn't he and his brochure to much focused on getting treasure and fortunes? Something about that feels off to me."
OOC:
That's what Yendil says and feels, without the conclusion of his insight roll.
"Both these guides mentioned merchant prince Yabal. Would it be a good idea for at least some of us to go and find Syndra and/or the merchant prince Wakanga O'tamu Villa, to gather some more information about them?"

Yendil will probably finish his meal, drink a lot of water to rehydrate, and either joins a walk around town if it interests him, or relax in his room until morning.

Tonby's mind works perfect despite the condition his body is at the moment. He managed to ask Gondolo questions he obviously avoided to answer. Both Tonby and Yendil have a feeling Gondolo has a very high self-assessment, but his actual experience probably lags behind. That's probably the reason two of them ask the same price as other guides ask for single guide services.

While the group was still at their dinner table, but when no more strangers were lingering around, Elster tried to summarize the situation: "Well, this town seems to have much going on. We could search for missing people, search for treasure in the jungle, or search for the source of this curse. Whatever we decide to do tomorrow, I'd like to keep it light, this heat is still pressing, and we have to meet with the boss in the afternoon."
Oct 8, 2024 6:30 pm
"We're here for the curse. Anything else is a distraction," Ren chimes in. "Tomorrow, let's make sure we have anything we need for our mission before the meeting. We need to be ready to go."
Oct 8, 2024 7:10 pm
"Sometimes distractions can be beneficial." Larsie chimes in.

"While the curse is certainly the objective, and should remain our focus, if we find we're close to dealing with one of these distractions along the way it might be worth the time; especially if it gets us on someone's good side."
TatharCiryatan says:
"Surprising feat for a guide, to leave your group with more questions than answers. Not sure what I think about that yet. Also, wasn't he and his brochure to much focused on getting treasure and fortunes? Something about that feels off to me."
"I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way."
Oct 8, 2024 7:57 pm
"Ren is correct of course. Although I did become a cleric in a foolish attempt to help people. So if there's people in need, I'll try to help. For example, we learned of a missing dye merchant. It'd be great if we could bring them home." Elster will tell the table about clothes shopping, the missing merchant, and the scuffle at the temple. "Did anyone find any info as to how to end this curse?
Oct 9, 2024 12:01 am
"Those two were typical con artists, nothing more" Tonby put the two men out of hind for the moment. "I learned nothing sadly."
Oct 9, 2024 4:54 pm
"If we end up deciding to call in the help from a guide, at this moment my preference is with Azaka with their missing wooden mask, but maybe we should enquire with merchant prince Jabal before deciding. After speaking to Miss Syndra and merchant prince Wakanga of course."

"Aren't distractions the cherry on the cake? As long as it doesn't make us drift to far from our goal towards finding this so called Soulmonger, I'd like to explore this land and its inhabitants a bit more. Speaking of, I met a merchant from Jevel market at the Merchants’ Ward called Chiva. He was under the impression that the plant overgrowth could be dealt with, but the merchant princes choose not to. It doesn't affect them, and might even attract tourists or adventurers, but I can't imagine it being linked to the death curse. I'm not sure what to do with that bit of information, but I sensed some kind of discontent towards the merchant princes from him, which seems odd coming from a merchant."

"I'd like to do something tomorrow, but I have no idea other than just walking around and exploring the town."
Oct 9, 2024 7:00 pm
"Exploring the town isn't such a bad idea, seems we've learned quite a bit that way so far." Larsie responds.

While finishing her dinner, Larsie shares some of the details of her visit with the Grandfather of the local Savras temple.

"Some men were in a heated argument with the good priest, trying to get him to agree to cast a location spell to try and find someone named... Artus, I think it was. They even offered payment using the largest ruby I've ever seen. Whoever this man is, he must be important."

At the end of the meal, Larise will let the others know that she is heading over to the home of Razira the missing dress supplier.

"Just to take a quick peek before heading back and getting some sleep. Maybe I'll find something interesting to report to Syndra tomorrow."
