So if I'm reading these two together correctly, Yasha can have 'internally-powered' abilities (i.e. not dependent on external material foci), and it would be acceptable to take Magic Arcane, Teleportation, Psychic (i.e. telepathy), and hopefully also Telekinesis, and then mostly implement other stuff by using Arcane to add or increase Abilities.

About the fame and wealth: those were envisioned mostly as part of the original ideas I had, ideas that I'm probably going to leave behind because they were probably not a good fit (at least when taken in aggregate) in the first place. So now I'm trying to think of a more . . . well, not quite a wallflower, but more grounded kind of concept, not as over the top. Current idea is someone from the Yasha homeland whose family is staying in Japan long-term (think decade). Which is probably good reasoning for taking an outsider kind of flaw - which would make good contrast against the more socially successful PCs like the dragon.

Edit: but I'm now considering accepting the suggestion of a connection to the triads. Though perhaps some Taiwan-aligned ones rather than mainland-aligned ones.

Yep, Yojutsu isn't dependent on material resources, as it works in the subtle realm, not the material one, manipulating one's (and other's) spiritual energy. Teleportation, Telepathy and Telekinesis are all possible ideas of abilities that would involve Youjutsu.

What's 'assoc.' in the sheet?

Association, any relation to institutions and groups, if there is one.

I thought about the Chinese organised crime suggestion, and I'm warming up to it. But I decided to go for it with a twist. Here's what I came up with:

Lín Jìng (林静) is an offspring of a Taiwanese Yasha family, which puts her at odds with the mainland Yasha. But unlike the typical scions of influential families, she is neither popular, nor tough, nor gregarious, nor even particularly smart. In fact she's rather plain, and borderline shunned by the more traditional cliques due to her foreign roots.

What others achieved through talent and aptitude, Lín Jìng achieved through patience and determination. She's a resonably good Youjutsu user, specialised in mind-over-matter powers (teleportation, telekinesis, and telepathy). This kind of personality does come with an obsessive side, for good and ill. In her case it's primarily hoarding of secrets about . . . pretty much everyone she comes into contact with.

Some would say that this is the sort of personalty that is akin to a hedgehog and at best keeps everyone at arm's reach, that is not entirely true. Lín Jìng is certainly open to pulling people in instead of pushing them away, it's just that there are caveats.

Looking good so far. Though I think a good and concrete goal or drive would surely augment her character.

How ambitious a goal are we talking about, and how concrete? Because right now the motivations are accumulation of forbidden knowledge and petty secrets, aid to her shady family in whatever the family's priorities in Japan are, and getting some sort of personal life up and running again in the new locale. But I'm guessing those don't fit the idea of a concrete and good goal.

I doesn't have to be ambitious, just explain what moves, E. g. if she wants knowledge and secrets so much, what moves her to have such desire?

Ah, the main grounding of that obsession is twofold, maybe even threefold. First, it's just an aspected extension of general curiosity. Second, it's a self-defensive habit: having blackmail material on others can be a useful deterrent when you have neither the social oomph nor the wits to mitigate confrontations with your rivals. Third, it's seen as a path to power as taught in the family (here 'secrets' refers both to less-known techniques, and knowledge of others that gives power over them). Does that fit?

Those are applicable reasons for that obsession of hers, yes. That being said, it wouldn't count as something she strives for. Of course you have time to think about something, but it would really strengthen the character and make her more enjoyable.

Could you please help me ensure I understand correctly what kinds of goals fit, such as by giving examples (hypothetical ones and/or ones mentioned for other PCs)?

Understand this isn't really a requirement, more of a guideline on how to make an interesting character. Considering this type of story have something of a coming of age to it, maybe you could think about what your character want to do with her life, like how other two PCs as of now aspire either to become a physician or an actress. She could, for example, aspire to follow her family's footsteps and rule the Taiwanese mafia, or start he own branch of it, believing that gathering secrets would help her out in the long run; or she could desire to become the greatest sorcerer in the world, just to give some examples.

Oh, of that sort. In that case, the big ambition would be to break the influence of rival, mainland Yasha families and the corresponding triads on Japan and/or Taiwan (one step at a time), ideally pushing them out.
