Loan keeps low, getting ready to shift if needed.
OOC:
taking another ready action...
Oct 20, 2016 8:10 am
~As so often happens when he gets up close with the Dead, Run hears the running commentary in his head from games that seem like centuries ago, "Jimmy Larsson steps up to the plate, he's looking confident, ready. The first ball comes at him, he swings..."
OOC:
For twitch he will dodge the first attack that comes at him - do I need to roll for that now?

Rolls

Bat (Black) - (1d10+3)

(5) + 3 = 8

Bat (Red) - (1d10)

(4) = 4

Oct 20, 2016 4:28 pm
Rather than the satisfying crack of the ball making contact with the bat, Run hears the sickening wet thud of the bat collapsing the head of the last standing C.
OOC:
There is now just a group of 6 Casualties in the grass ahead of Run.

Initiative
Claire - 5
Casualties - 0

Next Round
Ham-Bone - 9
Loan Shark - 6
Home Run - 6

Run: You roll for the dodge when they attack. I'll let you know.
Oct 20, 2016 9:17 pm
Claire was frustrated with Teddy, ran up closer to Ham and her dog. Training can only go so far with this many distractions. She whistled him over then signals towards Run. Theodore took off in that direction.
OOC:
Attempt 3, going to kite the group heading towards run to split it up.

Rolls

Animal - BvsR - (1d10+1, 1d10)

1d10+1 : (5) + 1 = 6

1d10 : (1) = 1

Oct 21, 2016 1:09 am
Teddy excitedly growls and jumps around just outside of the reach of the Casualties. You see the grass start to shift and rustle in his direction.

As the mob moves, three Casualties rise back to their feet. Two of them continue with the mob following Teddy and the other has locked on to Run. Ichor gurgles in its throat as it lunges at him.
OOC:
Alright, Run, now I need that Dodge roll

Rolls

Peeling Result - (1d6)

(5) = 5

Teddy Mob - Standing Attempt - (1d6)

(3) = 3

Run Mob - Standing Attempt - (1d2)

(2) = 2

Oct 23, 2016 9:31 pm
Run tries to sidestep the creature.

Rolls

Dodge (Black) - (1d10+3)

(3) + 3 = 6

Dodge (Red) - (1d10)

(9) = 9

Oct 24, 2016 11:20 am
The growl rises in pitch as the walking corpse goes in for the kill. Caught out of position from his swing and the unsure footing, Run can't manage to get out of reach in time and the Casualty's bony finger tips rake across his chest tearing at his clothes and breaking the skin underneath.

OOC:
So, the natural 3 on the black does 3 Kill damage to and the 9 on the red die sets the location (torso). Normally, this would also lead to a Trauma roll, but since you're immune there's no threat of infection for you.
Oct 26, 2016 3:02 am
Instinctually Ham-Bone wants to fire at the corpse tearing at Run's chest, but shooting into a melee is a bad idea. Run is immune. He'll be okay. Better to take out the Casualties before they reach the slugger. Ham-Bone lines up another Casualty in his sights.

Rolls

Shoot B - (1d10+2)

(4) + 2 = 6

Shoot R - (1d10)

(1) = 1

Oct 26, 2016 7:38 am
The tattered baseball cap of one of the casualties is blown clean off along with the majority of the head on which it sat.
OOC:
One standing, three crawling after Teddy, and just the one standing against Run. Run and Loan Shark are up.

Initiative
Run 6
Shark 6
Claire 5
Casualties 0

(4) + 3 = 7

Bat (Red) - (1d10)

(1) = 1

Shark surveys the scene looking for a tactical advantage.
OOC:
so I'm using my freebie and the ready bonus to make an insight check. Then I'm going to use my tactic to ready... I really should have foresaw how useless this guy is in combat... Whelp failed tactics...

Rolls

Insight - (1d10-2)

(10) - 2 = 8

Oct 27, 2016 6:33 pm
The last C coming after Run falls before him and his mighty bat.
OOC:
All that's left are the ones chasing Teddy.

]Genisisect: Tough break on the tactics roll. Assuming you get out of this, we can discuss move points around or something. I wasn't familiar enough with the game rules to make suggestions. Rookie mistakes.

Claire is up.
Oct 27, 2016 9:01 pm
As Teddy distracts the walking corpses, Claire carefully advances her position. Attempting to be unheard, the scavenger planned to puncture a casualty's skull with her well maintained combat knife.
OOC:
Think I failed that roll, no surprises lol. Claire wasn't trying to be right behind one, but if she approached without being heard she would then attempt a blind side.

Rolls

Stealth - BvR - (1d10+2, 1d10)

1d10+2 : (3) + 2 = 5

1d10 : (5) = 5

Oct 29, 2016 2:50 am
OOC:
so minor note since it doesn't impact the result here. Stealth checks against Casualties can only be done if you have the scent blocker. It doesn't really specify that in the section on fighting zombies. I noticed it when going through the gear section. Scent blocker "allows Stealth rolls against Casualties and Vectors" so that implies you normally can't.

Also, I can't seem to find any mechanical benefit to Stealth in this context. Maybe as an ambush at the beginning of a fight, even then I can't seem to find that in the PDF.

As an alternative you could try peeling to further split up the pack. Have some go towards you some towards Teddy.
Oct 29, 2016 5:44 am
OOC:
In my head, the stealth was just not to aggro the casualties as I approached. If Teddy is making noise and kiting them, I figured a soft approach from the side would still make an easy ambush. If they see me, she would just peel them. But, I dont know how things work, so its all on you lol.
Oct 29, 2016 11:55 am
OOC:
my understanding is that they basically go after the nearest prey based on sight, sound and I guess smell. Really that just impacts who they attack on their turn and who they move toward if not in melee range. Since there's not really damage against casualties, you either kill one with a success or don't with a fail, there's not really a damage bonus for sneak attacks as far as I can tell. A bigger mob is harder to fight in melee than a smaller mob and you guys are faster than the zombies so divide and conquer is a pretty solid strategy.

Fair warning though, melee vs casualties unless you're immune or latent is risky business if they damage you, you risk infection.
Oct 29, 2016 3:41 pm
OOC:
Ah, I see. That clears it up a bit more. So, really, I don't want Claire trying to stab zombies unless needed. I built her with avoiding them in mind anyways. I'll use her to peel the zombies some more then.
Oct 30, 2016 8:50 pm
OOC:
Should Ham-Bone take another shot. No rush, I am just checking in case I missed something.
Oct 31, 2016 8:02 pm
OOC:
Sorry, Saturday was my birthday.
Claire cuts across the field diagonally from Run, waving her arms wildly. 2 of the C's rise out of the grass and walk towards her. They are now 1 shamble from Claire and could attack her next turn if she doesn't move.

The two other c's continue toward Teddy.
OOC:
Ham Bone, you're up. Consider Claire's two as being in melee range and would require a precision shot.

Rolls

Peeling from Teddy - (1d4)

(2) = 2

Oct 31, 2016 11:33 pm
Ham-Bone feels a knot form in his stomach as the two Casualties get within arm's length of Claire. He needs to take one down to give her a fighting chance. He takes extra care to line one up in his sights.
OOC:
Happy Birthday. I'd say that is a good reason not to be hanging out with us online.

Rolls

Shoot B - (1d10+2)

(10) + 2 = 12

Shoot R - (1d10)

(5) = 5
