I don't actually speak putonghua, but the thread below this was "aloha," so it seemed appropriate.

I'm new here. Long-time roleplayer (started back in '94 with forum-based writing games, spread on to table-top and online TT games), though I don't have a ton of experience. I didn't grow up where there was a big roleplaying community, and most of those were D&D players (which I'm not a big fan of).

I play mostly (old) World of Darkness, but I've been known to dabble in Earthdawn, Shadowrun (1-3e), (WEG) Star Wars, GURPS, and even Pathfinder (predominantly PFS). I enjoy creating characters and chronicles... but I've never had a chance to run a chronicle (self-created or otherwise). I may start one of these days if I can build up the courage.

Outside of gaming, I teach English as a foreign language and do my best to avoid work whenever possible. (It rarely is. Possible, I mean.) I'm a right brain guy. Or a left brain. Whichever one is bad at math. :0)

Welcome to GP! Do you teach English to non-native speakers in your home country or work abroad?

Nei ho ma. (That’s the Cantonese equivalent of nihao. I used to live/teach in Hong Kong.)

Welcome to GP!

These days I am teaching in the Middle East, though in the past I taught in China and Mexico. I have also been known to teach native speakers in the United States (where I am certified). I like it here, though, 'cause I don't feel like a baby sitter.

Well.

Not just a baby sitter. ;)

Thank you! I used to teach in Shenzhen. I was learning some Mandarin. Very excited that I was learning it. So I went to Hong Kong and spoke to the guy at the pizza place. He didn't understand a word. And that was the day I learned they speak guangdonghua in HK while the rest of the country speaks putonghua. /e facepalm

Welcome! With Hongkong and Shenzhen right next to each other it must have totally surprised you that it's Cantonese in one and Mandarin in the other!

Anyway, we have some true blue World of Darkness fans here (amongst of the other old-school games as well).
