Chapter Three - Return to the Mournland

As the living fireball exploded, Tryne ducked behind his shield. Carefully carved runes along the shield flared to life as the fire enveloped him, absorbing and draining away some of the impact. As the flames passed, the scorched half-elf looked around, the runes of his shield still glowing faintly with the absorbed power.
OOC:

Just wanted to throw out how Tryne's Absorb Elements looked :)

Tryne wanders over to where Meepo is looking at the remains. Hearing his name, to Laulalith "Good idea. Let me look this over first."

To Meepo, "Do you think it a construct or a summon. Laulalith, did this thing respond to the ring like an elemental?"
OOC:

Tryne will investigate the remains, then move the cart further into the area. After that, he will rest and work on repairing Talon (cast Mending until Talon is once again at full strength, then cast Prestidigitation until she is shiny again :)

Post Roll: I love when you have a great modifier and the dice gods still deliver you a crap roll :)

"It was not an elemental and it did not respond when I talked to it. Maybe it was a mindless thing?"
OOC:
That's what weekly rerolls are for DrifterDwarf. Especially on a Saturday.
Lali can add Guidance to you as well.

Investigating the remains

Meepo looks away from L's compliment bashfully. "Aww it was nothing! Sometimes I get really scared or mad and stuff like that happens but it doesn't always work."

He looks around and as both L and Tryne ask the possible origin Meepo responds with. "Well there does seem to be a faint smell of sulfur which could indicate either a summon or a construct with a chemical element made in the construction."

He continues to look around
OOC:
will post what he says next after DM says what Meepo does or doesn't find.

Through Meepo’s knowledge of potions, ingredients and his own connection with the weave, he recognizes the flame was a living spell. In this case, a living fireball spell. A construct released during the Day of Mourning, but also known to escape the control of casters in the grey. The kobold finds quite a bit of pure sulphur in the area, a known component of the fireball spell. Created for destruction, it’s all the living spell would know.

As everyone is resting up, Torhak notices the daytime beginning to wane. The rest has taken up much of the remaining daylight. It’s likely they only have two hours of light left. The alcove provides some cover and appears defendable should they need to stay the night. There appears to be no immediate threat nearby. The tumbling stones are likely from little critters that somehow survive this wretched land. The doors into the cliff and the warehouse beyond them, also appear solid enough to secure whatever is inside and likely would provide protection. They are clearly wide enough to fit the cart. Likely for ease of loading for the armies of Cyre.
OOC:
Meepo, you may collect as much sulfur as you wish.

Does anyone have anything else to do during your rest?
Dec 21, 2024 8:39 pm
OOC:
nope, ready to open the door. Or at least try
Dec 21, 2024 8:57 pm
"If I may," the warforged begins as the group takes a breather, "the most prudent course of action seems to be to move inside the warehouse and seal the doors behind us, and then immediately set about securing the inside. While the interior is an unknown, and I know full well what they say about plans and first contact, I am not comfortable leaving anything or anyone outside while the rest of us are in the warehouse."

His face turns, and one would imagine his gaze coming to rest on the closed doors. "And that is assuming opening the doors won't prove an arduous task in its own right."

Meepo continues to explain his analysis "but Meepo doesn't think there is enough material to be a construct. There seems to be some residuals. But not that much. It seems this thing seems to be a living spell that was cast long ago."

Meepo collects some of the sulfur with his alchemy supplies before going over to the door ready to proceed.

let's be careful. If this was a spell caster home there might be more living spell guardians

Meepo turns to 37. "That sounds like a smart idea"

As they finish their rest and prepare to enter the warehouse, Laulalith joins Meepo and 37 in front of the doors to the warehouse. "A living spell? Now there's a new tale. If there are more of them protecting this place, I want to see them for what they are."

She starts singing softly to herself in elvish while weaving questions and magic into the music.
OOC:
Detect magic as a ritual - concentrating on that. If nothing tries to eat us when we enter, Lali will want to put bardic inspiration on four of you at that time.

Tryne rose at 37 suggestion. "Trying the doors is a good idea. Not sure if the coach will fit in the warehouse. I do not think we should leave it unguarded if it does not."
Dec 22, 2024 1:27 am
Vice picks up Envy from among the sulfur, then hewill activate Mage Hand and move toward the door. "Just show me where the handle is!" he says, pausing to search if there are any traps.
Vice

we do have two carts right? The elemental and the one we are towing?

"This may have been a military base, or some sort of mercenary outpost." Torhak said as he joined the others, "Those doors are large, large enough to move marching soldiers, carts, or other things through without issue." he looked to 37, "I agree with 37, we should move everyone and everything inside, once we have opened the doors and confirmed at least the entrance is safe"

Torhak liked the idea of Vice using a magical hand to open the doors from afar, if he could, just in case. One time of being nearly burnt alive today was more than enough for this Minotaur.
Dec 22, 2024 3:45 am
Meepo takes a few steps back to make sure there is a least 25 feet between him and the door for when Vice attempts to open it
Dec 22, 2024 6:58 am
Vice moves his mage hand towards the doors to find them either secured or much too heavy for his magical hand. No traps are set off by the mage hand’s attempts.

From his time in the Cyran army, 37 would recognize the doors as a supply depot. He would also know that if the doors have not been secured from inside, it would still take the strength of a couple of warforged to open and close them.
Dec 22, 2024 7:12 am
"Bad news: my magic isnt strong enough to open the door. Good news: I survived the attempt! Vice says, letting the magical hand dissapear.
Dec 22, 2024 12:07 pm
"Well, we have to open them sooner or later." Lalulalith walks up to the doors and examines them one last time before attempting to open them. "Thorhak, can you lend a hand here? It's too heavy for me alone."
OOC:
Still concentrating on Detect Magic

Tryne tried to remind himself to breath, finding himself holding his breath as Vice attempted to open the door. Besides the risk of another ball of fire exploding from the doors, this warehouse was potentially the biggest trove of magic and technology the scrapper had ever explored. He could not help but wonder what may or may not be found within those doors.

Tryne would step forward if needed to help move the doors, but he was nothing compared to the massive Thorhak,
Dec 22, 2024 1:48 pm
Laulalith inspects the door. She doesn’t sense any magic immediately nearby. She confirms the doors are not trapped. Instead, she finds a small gap between the doors, revealing a single wooden beam, barring the doors from inside the warehouse. The beam is not large for such a door and intuitively she knows it should be easily lifted. Two handles are elegantly carved into each of the doors.

Using the light available, her keen eyes can see a large empty room beyond the doors. As Torhak suggests and confirming 37s plan, they should no issues backing their cart into the warehouse.
