OOC:
I'm good with that plan. I'm also ok charging Kalli if she needs us to store the items :)
I'd also like to talk to the rider (since were were told to make sure we weren't followed) and at least try keep them busy until the loot is safe.

OOC:
So... half of us jump out and intercept the rider (including Vice and/or 37) and the others take the carriage to the church, and then one the way back from the interception that group can dogleg over to Kalli's?

OOC:
I am willing to be part of the confrontation party *cracks knuckles*
Jan 21, 2025 5:17 pm
OOC:
Isn't it safer to stop the cart here, send a group to confront the rider, and then return to the cart, so we can make our way into town together? Less splitting the party.

OOC:
It's just one guy, he says forebodingly. I was hoping to hop off the cart and hide, and potentially surprise the cowboy if he keeps following the cart. Although a minotaur standing there cracking his knuckles might dissuade them. (I'm usually ok with whatever plan to keep the story moving though)

OOC:
I'm good either way. To keep things moving, maybe Tohak should just jump off and then we see who follows? :)

OOC:
meepo will stay with the party that will confront the stranger if the party splits up as he has no connection with the buyer and might make the buyer nervous if one of the original members isnt with him. meepo isnt worried much about the one following them but would prefer the party not split up though.

OOC:
I am good being the road block per se, meepop and vice can hide in some bushes in case stuff gets dicey. The cart can keep moving and then we can walk back the rest of the way to the Church. Maybe?
Jan 22, 2025 4:42 pm
OOC:
Sounds good to me. @Nictorah is there anywhere the three of us could hide from the approaching riders view? If not, us little guys can illusion ourslelves I guess.
Jan 22, 2025 4:50 pm
OOC:
Ok. So Torhak, Meepo, and Vice intercept the rider. The rest of us continue directly to the buyer.

Lali can make Vice or Meepo invisible if you want.
Jan 22, 2025 5:38 pm
OOC:
the invisibility would probably work best on Vice in this circumstance. But if the rider is after the loot who's to say he won't just go around us and now you all still have him following and now we are just separated from y'all? Just saying we may want to start talking or fighting before the carriage pulls off

Rider
The large minotaur jumps down from the carriage. Meepo and Vice discreetly disembark as well. A few shrubs near the road provide some cover as Torhak stands in the road. The rider takes a few moments to approach. He’s a tall, slender young man with pale skin and dark eyes. His hat pushes his wispy, black hair down to slightly cover his face. He wears a black leather coat with pants to match. A faded scarf is wrapped pretentiously around his neck. He makes no effort to conceal the many daggers under his jacket, along with a holster on each hip, each holding a small hand crossbow. His horse is midnight black, with matching black tackle. Even at a glance, Torhak can see the intelligence in the beast's eyes. She is obviously well cared for, being neatly groomed, especially having just been through the grey mists. Torhak feels his mark tingle and the horse averts her eyes.

The rider casually halts his horse broadside, just inches before running into the minotaur. Deliberately ignoring him, the rider watches over Torhak’s horns for several moments, as the cart continues into town. Finally looking down to Torhak, there’s faintest hint of an amused smirk in his eyes as he leans onto his saddle horn. "Good morning.", his says coolly. "That was some fancy driving yesterday, disappearing like that. Quite the haul for one night’s work, too, ‘Guardian’."

The rider’s full attention is now on the minotaur before him. His steely eyes locked with Torhak’s

Kalli Alran
Meanwhile, Tryne drives the cart on through town. 37 guides him to Kalli’s house and parks out front. It is a simple, modest, wooden home, better maintained than most in town. 37 knocks at the door. A dark skinned woman, with short brown hair, wearing a green tunic and red stained leathers answers the door with a bright smile. "Good morning, Mr 37. That was even quicker than I expected."

The warforged notices several items of his once home nation of Cyre, warmly decorating the home’s interior. After a brief discussion, Kalli thinks it would be best if they go to the hall to discuss further. She grabs her cloak and quickly climbs aboard the cart. She marvels at its design and comments that she’s never ridden in one before. Tryne quickly activates the cart and makes his way to the hall.

Upon arrival, Famul quickly opens the large doors beneath the Titaness’ shield and Tryne skillfully pulls the cart and its wagon inside. Famul quickly secures the door behind them. "famul relieved by 37’s return…"

Getting down from the carriage, 37 takes a knee by Famul. "I am glad to see you as well, Famul. I trust everything was alright while we were gone? Any problems?"
Jan 23, 2025 4:53 pm
Vice whispers to Meepo from their shrubbery of concealment, "Well, this guy seems sure of himself. Doesn't seems to be afraid of Torhak at all. "
Jan 23, 2025 5:19 pm
"not at all" Meepo whispers. "He even associated Torhak with the guardians and still is barely paying attention to him. Might be more than we can handle we better be careful."
Jan 23, 2025 7:34 pm
Vice replies with a bit of doubt in his voice,"I'll take your word for it, and if what you say is true, then we should be ready to . . . do . . something. At least he seems to have lost interest in the cart for now."

Safely arrived at the hall, Laulalith greets Kalli with her customary bow. "Laulalith the Bard, at you service." There are many things she would like to ask their employer - not least whether she has any relationship with the half-orc the professor mentioned - but their immediate safety is a more pressing concern. "Ms Kalli, a rider dressed in black tried to follow us to the warehouse. We managed to throw him off our trail, but he was waiting for us when we returned. The rest of our group stayed behind to ensure he would not follow us. Do you know who that is? I assume he is after the same prize as you?"

Tryne said hello to Kalli briefly as she entered the coach and drove over to their base. He had seen the coach drivers in the city, although even there most of them were horse drawn. At the time he wondered about being able to drive for the rich clients. Now, after driving for two days, he wondered how anyone did this every day of their lives.

Once the coach was parked in the church, Tryne stretched broadly and hopped down from the driving seat. "Got to work on the cushioning of that seat if we are going on more long trips." he grimaced as he limped around for a moment.

Tryne gave Kalli a nod, "I'm Tryne, one of the new recruits." pointing up at the mechanical lion who was currently laying sleepily on the top of the coach, yawning broadly, a pretty good impression of a bored cat. "That's Talon... don't get too use to it up there."

Torhak felt the ache of his mark, and watched unsettlingly at the horses deference to it.

"Morning" Torhak replied once the man had said his peace. "May I ask what interest you have in our driving and hauling? I am sure if there are goods of interest that some of them will be made available for purchase by our patron"

Famul
Famul shudders clankily, "cat lady watched the hall last night… cat lady was dressed in black… sheriff said cat lady works for ikar…", Famul informs 37.

Kalli Alran
Kalli formally introduces herself, "Kalli Alran. I work for a crew called the Grey Dogs.", her infectious smile falters as Laulalith mentions the black rider. She sighs with relief that he was unable to follow the group to the warehouse. "That would be Tarin. Ikar’s personal bloodhound. And the little cycloptic tabaxi would be known as Sassy. No one knows her real name.", she says with a heavy sigh. "It’s impressive that you managed to evade Tarin. Sassy is a furry wrecking ball with claws.", she says, her smile returning. "You could call their crew rivals to mine, or rather everyone in town. Their methods are suspect. Those with a good lead in the Grey, tend to disappear. That, and their buyers are elusive, secretive and in search of the darker objects of Cyre."

Kalli looks over the cart and wagon. She waves specifically to Talon on the roof, "My buyer on the other hand, is very open about his interests. He wants technology. The rarer, the better. There must have been something of interest in that warehouse to get his attention. What did you find?"

Meanwhile, at the edge of town…
Tarin
The rider grins maliciously, showing his gleaming white teeth, "Our interest is profit. Not to buy, to sell. Why else come to this forsaken place?", he says with a sneer.

"Now you’ve gone and hooked up with wrong team, friend. The Grey Dogs are on their way out. The Boss is going to make sure of that. You and the others in your crew should take that into consideration. That warforged and his little pal have talent, anyone can see that. It’d be a shame to let it go to waste on the wrong side."
