"Well, we have to find him first. Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll need to be rescued from bandits." Vice says before thinking. "Though I suppose that's not lucky for him."
Mar 18, 2025 7:05 pm
Laulalith joins the conversation while she prepares for her nightly trance. "Well, if our theory is correct then he has saved at least some of Kalli's companions from bandits himself. Doesn't sound like he's in the habit of needing rescuing."
"I do look forward to meeting him. He must have some interesting tales to tell." Her eyes shine with a little more than the normal bardic fascination with stories as she says it.

Vice is turning in. He says to whoever is one first watch; "Wake me up for next watch. . . . Keep an eye on the trees."
Mar 19, 2025 10:37 pm
Tryne offers to take first watch, setting up with Talon to help keep an eye on things. He has his new rifle in hand and he guards the camp.

37 will put his back to the wagon so he is facing the entry point to the grotto and proceed to simply... stand.
"It is very dark."
OOC:
37 can -- and does -- stand watch the entire night. "It is very dark."

Laulalith sits crosslegged on her bedroll and prepares for the nightly trance. "Please wake me when it's my turn."
Mar 20, 2025 2:28 pm
Kalli agrees to join the second watch with Vice. Shortly after, Vice and Kalli have drifted off to sleep. Laualiath fades into her trance. Leaving 37 and Tryne, along with Talon to settle in for the first watch. It is indeed very dark. The unseen canopy above has blocked out all stars and even the moons. The dim glow of the dying campfire casts dancing shadows through the thick forest before them. Here and there, the sound of small creatures rustle through the underbrush.
As midnight approaches, the embers of the fire provide little light at all, but would attract little attention either. Around this time, Tryne notices the ambient noise fade to silence as it had earlier on the path. Talon stands up. Her ears point directly ahead as she scans the darkness. Tryne follows her gaze and notices a pair of faint glowing green eyes off in the distance. Unmoving, unblinking they stare into the camp.

Tryne follows Talon's gaze and sees the eyes watching the camp. He ensures that his new rifle is ready and slowly reaches out to wake Laulalith who was sitting close. Keeping his eyes fixed on the watcher, he glances to see if 37 has noticed that he is moving, while he moves on to nudge Torhak next.
He speaks softly - "We've got company..."
Can Tryne guess at the distance to the eyes watching them?

Give me a perception check. Since you have darkvision, it’ll be a straight roll.Mar 21, 2025 12:50 am
Peering into the darkness for the eyes.

In the darkness, and unsure of the height or size of the creature, it is extremely difficult to get a lock on the distance of the eyes.

When Tryne wakes her, Lulalith jumps up with drawn wand. Seeing the glowing eyes in the dark, she suppresses the urge to attack, and joins Tryne in staring into the night.

Not having any idea what they might be dealing with, Tryne would continue to wake others carefully.
Mar 22, 2025 3:02 pm
Remembering how heavily Torhak slept last time, Laulalith takes no chances: She conjures a spectral hand and uses it to give a short sharp tug on Torhak's nose ring.

Assuming, since he is waking up others, Tryne told 37 what he saw? Since 37 didn't see a thing.Mar 22, 2025 4:08 pm

37, you could give me a perception check with disadvantage or try something else to see. Mar 22, 2025 5:06 pm

Tryne spoke quietly and is kicking people he can reach. I think 37 is out of reach - so it is just whether he would notice a bunch of people now moving around in the camp. Tryne will move from person to person, just depends on who is considered next. Laulalith is mage hand waking Torhak - maybe she can slap 37 next.
