Scene 3: hiring a guide

Tonby, as you shake it off you look around for whoever were trying to reach your mind and only notice some movement through the window, but too late to understand who it was. You believe you may probably catch the person if you run out of the inn quickly now, would you?
OOC:
If you does, roll a perceptions check (disadvantage) to see if your subconscious mind managed to capture details of the person you saw in the window

Tonby will get up quickly get up and head out to see if he can get a beat on whomever this person is.

Tonby runs out of the Inn having that feeling that he could remember what he saw out of the window any moment and runs ring into Elster, who is returning back. Surprised to see the person he captured just few days ago
OOC:
As far as I remember your backstory it was Tonby who escorted Elster back at Baldur's gates.
But the vision of the person he saw in the vision is gone with that. Streets are still full of people and he can't guess who he saw.

Yendil and Larsie join you a few minutes later, smelling of Tej.
OOC:
All 4 of your gather at the table to share your findings just before going to sleep. At lest @crazybirdman need to share with the rest of the players his progress. I welcome everyone else to also recap events IC.

Please let me know when you are ready to move story to tomorrow morning and finally get rid of you disadvantages.

OOC:
Should we say we talk in the morning, so all 5 of us are there? (Even if you want to wrap that up in this thread)
Nov 20, 2024 6:41 am
OOC:
All 4 of you. As much as I understand @MaJunior is not interested taking active part in this game (chapter I), so it is all of the active players.
When you talk is up to you. Story wise it would be logical to for PCs to share their experience in the evening but do planning in the morning.

While they are seated, Elster finishes the last of his water, takes a deep breath, and tells the group what he's learned. "Surprisingly, the contact I made informed me that there are 'Beggar Princes'. A criminal council mockery of the Merchant Princes. Not surprisingly, Atumwa the one I met in the Old City, was only interested in what I could for him. He was very interested to know if I had access to any places that I shouldn't. They also don't seems to like the Ytepka Society, but only offered to help Razira if she stayed with them in the Old City and worked there."
Nov 23, 2024 7:18 am
OOC:
Correct. May I assume whomever was trying to read Tonby's mind has something to do with Elster if not Elster himself?
Tonby glances around one last time before returning inside with his "criminal" companion. He joins him at the table and listens to what he learned about the city's underworld and if it was actually worth helping Razira in such a fashion. "Of course, they will use her just like the Merchant Prince's and Ytepka society would. Either way she will lose her freedom in some fashion." Tonby didn't like this place. At least in Baldur's Gate she would have a chance to prove she meant no harm rather than simply being branded a criminal or worse.

"We will have to discuss how we plan to help her later," Tonby said between sips of his water. "As for a guide, I met two or three interesting people. One was most assuredly selling lies. The others were at least capable sounding. I have to recommend we hire Musharib, the Dwarf. He seemed the most practical, experienced, and well traveled guide I met." He did want the others to speak their peace but there was something else first. "There is one more thing. Just now before Elster returned someone, not sure who, tried to read my mind. I caught a flash of them and somebody watching me through the window but I didn't manage to catch them. That's when Elster ran into me at the door."

OOC:
Yes, sounds like a fair assumption to me
Nov 24, 2024 2:55 pm
"A shady underground criminal council that mirrors a shady above ground council. Sounds like that could go hand in hand. We could tell Razira what you were told Elster, so she can decide for herself, even though we advise against it. It's her life that is on the line, not ours." Yendil sighs.
Listening to Tonby talking about Musharib "We also met him in the Thundering Lizard! A bit grumpy, but wasn't to shabby in sharing with us. He seems to know a lot about the lay of the land, and his skills could compliment ours almost perfectly if I'm not mistaken in your capabilities." Yendil says as he looks around the table. Continuing "He also told about the Heart of Ubtao. I have no clue as to what it is, just that it's visible from far, and a wonder to behold. I've told him that we're looking for a specific artifact, without naming it, and he muttered "who knows maybe it is your artefact that keeps it there". When asked what he meant he waved it away, "don't take it into account. If that was artifact someone would have stolen it by now. Rather Ubtao will as people say.". Rather ominous if you ask me, but maybe he'll share more if we end up hiring him. He also said that the guiding begins in Port Nyanzaru, with preparation for the expedition.

We were also told about a charter of exploration. It's a 50gp downpayment to Flaming Fist, and we have to split the found treasures with them. We can get up to six mercenaries for 1gp/day each. If we don't, a flaming fist patrol could attack us and steal our gear. We haven't seen that many Flaming Fist agents in the city, but we should still check this with Syndra, as it sounds like a swindle to us.

Heard a tale about bird folk inhabiting a monastery that hangs on the side of a plateau many miles up the Olung River, past the Laughing Gorge. The bird folk are holding the last royal heir of Chult as their prisoner. Tribes of aarakocra live atop the mountains and plateaus of Chult. Locals call them Bird folk. There are still people that would prefer the monarchy returning. They find the current situation less desirable.

Last thing we heard was about the ruins of the city of Mezro. It was understood to be destroyed during the Spellplague, hence it's marked as a ruin on our map. But according to what we overheard, is that that is an illusion. The Flaming Fist has been to the ruins several times, but keep going back hoping to find something more. The people we heard talking about it concluded for themselves that it is probably fake, and pointless to go there.

Although Musharib was the only guide we met tonight, I think I agree with Tonby. Up to this point Musharib sounds like a solid choice. What do you think Larsie and Elster?
"
Nov 24, 2024 6:55 pm
Larsie listens to Yendil relay the information that they learned during their excursion to the Thundering Lizard and doesn't have much more to add. And while she finds the politics of the princes and beggar princes somewhat interesting, she feels most of it won't matter once they've left the city and have started their search.

"I am interested in getting Syndra's thoughts on the charter and whether she thinks the Flaming Fists would be trustworthy if we were to hire a few of them as guides."

She is still bothered by the fact that she had heard of the Iron Fists' charter second hand, rather than from Syndra herself, feeling that it was an awfully important piece of information not to share, considering what her and the others are being asked to do.

"Musharib seems like a reasonable and knowledgeable fellow. I'd have no issue hiring him as our guide."
Nov 25, 2024 2:10 am
"Sorry, there's obviously a lot of info to process here. And I'm a bit concerned that our patron didn't tell us some of this herself. Not sure if she prefers us to come into the situation blind, or has something else up her sleeves.
As for a guide, I may be biased, but a dwarf sounds great."
he adds with a slight smile.

OOC:
Some clarification just in case it was not clear first time: Kwayothé just s any other prince don't have a duty to be in
every day. Each of them "work" there randomly. To meet Kwayothé you have two options:
1. Keep going to Goldenthrone every day until lucky.
2. Earn an invite into Kwayothé's villa (how to do that you will need to figure out, but I believe at lest one PC has idea about an option)

Syndra is in no way expert on Chult and things going on in Port Nyanzaru. Her research before coming here were directed ad charting the map and now she was only worried about securing money for you. If she didn't tell you about charter that means she did not know.

P.S. She actually expected You to gather any information directly related to expedition. You can certainly ask her about charter (or anything else) and she will gather you info through Wakange, but it will take a day to get that info. I was actually surprised you didn't ask any of NPCs talking about charter for any detailed info on the charter. Did you? Did I miss it?
You continue talking but eventually get to your beds and decide to meet in the morning to decide your next day plans.
OOC:
Long Rest Everyone! No more Exhaustion! What do you do next day?
GreyWord sent a note to Azule86
Tenday 1. Day 3. Morning. Kaya's
Sitting around the table and having nice breakfast you finally feel quite ok. Still sweating, but got used to that. But most importantly - your head works just fine.

Tonby will sit in silence contemplating the previous nights events over breakfast. He knew something else was at play here but wasn't sure yet. He eats his meal quietly unless someone has something specific to ask him or his input is absolutely required.
Nov 26, 2024 10:23 am
"Good morning Tonby! How are you? What are your plans for today? I was thinking, if we have to pay 5gp per day to Musharib, should we employ him immediately, or shall we wait a few days while we're working on other stuff, like helping Razira? " Looking at Larsie when she sat down "Larsie, I was thinking last night, you told that the priest at the temple of Savras can find objects through visions right? Could he also find" Yendil whispers after quickly looking around the room "the Soulmonger?"
Nov 26, 2024 4:29 pm
"It is possible, but I feel that Grandfather Zitembe may take some convincing to help us. I get the feeling that he believes most people want to take advantage of his connection to Savras for their own gain. I could pay him a visit this morning and ask him directly for help."

Larsie pauses to take a few bites of her meal.

"We would need some time, however, as the ritual takes at least a day."
Nov 26, 2024 6:01 pm
"Do we know the last person to posses the Soulmonger? We may have better luck getting Grandfather Zitembe to find them" Elster ask.
Nov 26, 2024 6:12 pm
Yendil raises his arms and leans back "I have got no clue how it all works, so Elster could be very right, it's definitely worth finding out! Finding and destroying this artifact is not for out own gain, so maybe you are able to convince him Larsie? With preperations, and other things on our check list, I believe we'll be in the Port for at least half a tenday, so I guess that the ritual time is not an issue."

"I will talk to the Grandfather and see if he would be willing to help."
Nov 27, 2024 7:41 am
"I have something I need to check on but that is about it," Tonby says reluctantly. "Do what you need to do to hire him, we will need his knowledge to gather the proper supplies." He looked to the others. "Anything you can learn about it will be a great help but something tells me that most likely whomever had it last is out there in the jungle, most likely dead."

OOC:
What does each of you do today? Looks like Tonby has his own plans he is not sharing, while Larsie plan to visit Temple of Savras.
What are Yendil and Elster doing?
Anyone plan to check Goldenthrone to see which if any merchant prince are available there today?
Anyone plan to book a visit to Jabal at his villa to sign a contract with a guide? Note: you don't know where how to meet Musharib. Who knows, he may as well be spending time in the jungle.
Anyone try to do anything else? Let me remind you have into on some important locations in this post and I believe I've shared two more major shrines exist in the city.
I will also suggest you following option - see below
While you are eating bartender approach your table and try to make it as polite as possible but point out that you begin to stink after 2 days of sweating
Bartender
Port Nyanzaru is a very clean city thanks to the cleansing rain, and its residents are also scrupulous about hygiene. Most would be repulsed by the thought of a day without a bath. Dozens of small bathhouses across the city operate like private clubs, but the public bathhouse is open to everyone and is run by the priesthood of Sune.
There is no charge, you will just need to leave a donation of your choice to the temple of Sune
