Emma sits on the comfy chair behind the desk and tries her luck on the computer, her focus flickering between the screen and Benji: "Well; they saw all four of us at the chapel when they left, so they know two of us are missing and supposedly still down there in the crypts" she motions her head at the purse "I'm a nobody, and they recognized me. They’ll have no trouble identifying the others either. It won't take them long to figure it out." she stopped as she gave it some more thought "I don't think they’ll have many questions for us, because even if they do, I can't imagine there's much I could tell them that would be of any use"

The username is already filled in: `Administrator` (could it be they are logging in as the Windows Administrator! That is 'bad security practice'.) but at least it is asking for a password.

What do you do?
OOC:
You have more than one way to get in:
• You have a Let It Out Ability 'Gain access to a secure or locked-down location', and we could stretch the definition of 'location' to include gaining access to the computer. (The Corruption of Hacking.:)
• Maybe you could Study a Place of Power and 'reveal a hidden password'?

Describe what you do and we can work out the mechanics.

Jacob remembered he wanted to follow Benji and Emma. He remembered wanting to help. He did remember he was probably the only one able to talk their way out of this mess. But the dagger's voice was stronger. "Let them go," it whispered, "it's the only way you can take me without their notice"

So now he found himself alone, with the dagger securely stored in the inner pocket of his jacket, wondering what happened. And, all of a sudden, he just realized Crowley had not been there for a while...
OOC:
I'm back! Let me know if this works, and in this case, I think Jacob would first try to check if Crowley is around. He doesn't feel Benji and Emma are in immediate danger, so he'd rather check that out first.

You hear voices from stairs back in the church. They sound like those Servitor guys who were there earlier, you don't hear your friends over there, maybe they went further down the passage? You have a strong feeling that Crowley continued on when you stopped to check the rooms off to the side.

There was no way Emma was going to be able to guess the password. But given how most people struggled to remember the increasingly complex password requirements these days, she suspected there was a good chance the Administrator had written it down somewhere. After a few moments of searching, she found it—scrawled on a notepad tucked away in the desk's drawer. Without thinking twice, she keyed it in.

The night was already a disaster. Eliot missing. Caught sneaking around the castle. She was already deep into this, so she might as well make it worth her while. Whatever lay behind that login screen could be her ticket to something valuable. Information, leverage, or perhaps something even more useful she could use to her advantage.

Jacob was more afraid of Crowley wandering without supervision than he was about Benji and Emma, so he decided to move down the tunnel to find him.

Your phone's light makes the shadows dance around you, and you can't see anything outside its beam. At the same moment you hear the Servitor voices behind you say: "... head down and look for them?" you hear a shuffling noise ahead.

As your light falls upon her, Crowley (still looking like Hali) turns to face you —possibly looking guilty, like she was caught with her hand in the cookie-jar?— and holds a hand to shield her eyes (she was not using a light). "Ah, there you are. I thought you had gotten lost." She says breezily. "Where are you friends... Um, who is that behind you?" She asks nervously when she catches the voices of the distant Servitors. "We probably should not be caught down here." She says inainly.

The room she was found in contains shelves-upon-shelves of cardboard boxes, just the right size for A4 paper files. Hali was bending over one box when you found her, but that box is closed, and her hands are empty.

"That’s true," Benji agrees with Emma’s astute assessment of the situation. She really is very clever. He suspects he might have underestimated her. He’d worried for her safety, at first, thinking she didn’t know the kind of danger she was putting herself in by associating with someone like Elliot, but now, watching her break into the Administrator’s computer, he’s pretty sure she knows exactly what she wants and what she’s willing to risk to get it. A cunning fox among bloodthirsty wolves, rather than a helpless sheep. "But then, if we have nothing to tell them, what have they brought us here for?"

"Got it!" Emma smirked as she shamelessly pulled the thumb drive from her purse and plugged it into the computer. She wasted no time, first copying the personal files folder, then quickly taking screenshots of any passwords she could get her hands on, starting with the Administrator's email. As the files began to download, she turned her attention back at Benji

"I don’t think they plan to kill us" she said, with the emphasis on 'plan'. Things could still go pear-shaped if they didn't manage the conversation correctly "If they did, they wouldn’t have brought us here, to this nice office, of all places. I expect threats, some cajoling, to make us to do their bidding. Perhaps they’ll want us to track down whatever Jacob and Hali took from the cryptt, or find some other way to repay them for whatever mess we've caused."

With a satisfied smirk, Emma pulled the thumb drive from the port and slipped it back into her purse. She stood up from the chair, smoothing her dress, and moved to the bookcase across the room, her fingers brushing through her blonde hair. She wasn’t sure what kind of man the Administrator was, but she was hopeful he was more susceptible to a pretty face and a well-placed glimpse of cleavage than the soulless Servitors. She straightened her posture, trying to make herself as presentable as possible, and turned her attention to the door, awaiting for him to arrive.

"Yes, probably a good idea not to be caught here,"Jacob agreed."Is this the stash you were looking for, Crowley? We only have a few seconds until the Servitors find us, so there's no time to play games now..." he warned his colleague and rival.

The Administrator is a portly, jovial, man of indeterminate-middle-age. You hear him excusing himself from many people outside his door well before he enters. He sighs with relief as he closes the door.

"It's like a zoo out there." He says, wiping his face with a handkerchief and giving you both a timid smile as he bustles past to take his seat.

He straightens a few things on his desk and glances at his computer before addressing you: "So?" He says, as though unsure where to start.

"Looks like a great store of information." Hali agrees. "One could spend years down here reading ..."

Then you mention the Servitors and she makes a face. "They back? That damned vampire friend of yours sure makes a lot of noise. This is why we don't let them in the house."

She looks around the storeroom, (now lit by your phone's light?). "Do you think there is another way out?" You are not meant to be on the property at all, and Crowley will probably won't hesitate to throw you under the bus to save his own skin.

"Always so helpful..." Jacob mutters, and starts looking for another exit. Unless they can find one very quickly, he'll have to talk his way out of the situation.

Emma gave the plucky Administrator a quick glance when he entered the room, trying to get his measure. He appeared to be congenial, and it was easy to dismiss him as being harmless. But she knew better by now to judge a man by his appearance. His demeanor could all be a deliberate way to lure people into a false sense of security.

The man sat behind the table, so Emma took her seat as well, crossing her long legs one over another, nodding at the man when he asked them to start speaking: "Please pardon my ignorance. I was supposed to meet with Mr. Parry, but he never showed up to the party tonight, and no one knows where he might be - " She namedropped Elliot's name on purpose, to make sure the man knew she was under his protection, whatever weight it still carried after his disappearance. More importantly, she wanted him to know she truly was out of her element, and had a genuine reason to fear for her safety. "- so could you please tell me who you are, and what are your responsibilities around here? Are the Servitors working for you? Did you make them?"

- Emma -

The Administrator swallows and tries to not to make it too obvious as his eyes track your legs.

"Yes. Mr Parry was expected tonight. We were more than a little surprised to have you show up as his guest but without him. I'm afraid I don't know where he is, nor what could possibly have induced him to leave someone as charming as yourself in the lurch." If he disproves —of Elliot in general, his treatment of you tonight, or your relationship with a vampire— he shows no sign of it.

"Heavens, no!" He exclaims when you ask about his making the Servitors. "They are an ancient ...er ... race. As their nominalisation indicates, they serve, but whom they serve is up to them. It seems a lot of those they currently serve are —or were— here tonight. They are ever so useful.

"But where are my manners." He says when you ask who he is. "My name is John Uskglass (no relation). I am responsible for the castle." You get the strong impression he is leaving out the '...among other things' clause of his responsibility.

"We have been watching you. And everybody knows Benji..." He says, possibly blushing a bit when he admits to 'watching you'. "... and Lady Halifax..."

He tries to sound casual as he slips in the next question to yourself and Benji: "Who was the other gentleman with you at the church?"

He has not mentioned the gaping hole in the floor.

"It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr Uskglass," Benji responds, politely. "I’m really very sorry for any damage I may have caused. It was entirely my fault and neither Emma nor anyone else should be held responsible for it." Other than the vague reference to ‘anyone else’, he pointedly ignores Uskglass’ question about Jacob.

Emma noticed the Administrator’s eyes lingering on her legs, and the way he blushed when he awkwardly mentioned watching her earlier. While she found him a bit icky, she couldn’t deny the reason she’d chosen to wear the scandalous low-cut red dress tonight. It was for the attention. She relished it. But stooping so low as to use her sexuality to wriggle out of this mess?

No. She wasn't that desperate.

As for Lady Halifax, Emma had no qualms about throwing her under the proverbial bus after the manipulative bitch roped her into this shady caper of hers. The only thing holding her back was a sense of loyalty to Benji, and the nagging fear that if she spoke up, Lady Halifax, or whoever this ‘Jacob’ was, would come back to hurt her. She decided to keep he mouth shut. Let’s see how the Administrator reacted. Would he use his leverage to get the answers he wanted, or would he back down? For the time being, all she said was: "I’m sorry, Mr. Uskglass. I want to help you" she stressed the word ‘you,’ locking eyes with him "but I don’t know what the consequences might be for me."

"Indeed?" The Administrator asks with a raised eyebrow. "And what made you decide to throw around our antique furnishings?" He does not mention that that burial effigy has been there for hundreds of years, possibly because he knows that that sort of detail does not always impress vampires as much as it does short-lived humans. But he doesn't dismiss the idea of holding you responsible.

Your admission of culpability means you will Owe him a Debt if he deigns to Overlook the Harm... unless you can shift the blame.

"Ah." The Administrator says quietly when you voice your concern. "Do you have reason to think you are in danger from the gentleman? Do you fear reprisals if you speak?" He does not offer you protection, but his tone suggests that if you wanted to talk in private that could easily be arranged.

The conversation so far has been polite, but The Administrator does not seem put off by your attempts to avoid the questions. You get the impression he can wait all night.

"I didn’t mean to," Benji replies. "It was an accident. I noticed that it looked like one of those, er… what are they called? Those stone table things with the sleeping statues? Well, anyway, I noticed one of them looked like it had been moved recently so I thought there might be something hidden underneath it. And there was! There was a secret tunnel under it! Isn’t that spectacular? Like something out of an adventure novel! There wasn’t anything interesting in the tunnel though… Just some dusty old plates and weapons and things. And then, when I was trying to put the stone back in place, I tripped on the steps and dropped it again." He pauses, frowning to himself. "…Again, I am very sorry. In retrospect, my behaviour was a bit careless."
