Quick advice then, don't take melee cantrips unless you plan to be a melee mage. They let you swap one out each time you go up a level. Get a nice range, at least 60' (acid splash, mind sliver, ray of frost, toll the dead), 120 (fire bolt) if you are really a scaredy cat, then stay away from nasty people carrying sharp objects (other than your friends of course). The only touch damage cantrip worth carrying is shocking grasp because you can use it then run if they do close on you and it keeps them from attacking you as you run away. But it's situational, better to stay at least 35 feet away since normal move is 30.
If you are a melee mage (haven't played one), then great! I'll stay away and shoot arrows while you run up and get beat on. :-)
I got it thank you!!!
I'm trying a rogue style warlock, I don't know if its a good choice of spells or not, just picked the ones I found fun with what I'm trying to do
for cantrips Chill toutch, True strike and acid splash.
Ohh and for eldritch invocations I got mage armor too.
Great. Did you get agonizing and repelling blast? You can use them with any cantrip in the new rules including the 3 you mention so they get extra damage and knock opponents back. Fun!
So many great invocations now, hard to choose.
I will say that since you are melee, that makes us more interesting and versatile . . . assuming Emberskyes doesn't go all squishy, lol.
I read these now on the rules and they sound good for what I'm trying to do. I like the Repelling Blast one because it lets you push an enemy. Maybe when I reach level 2, I can pick one of them to use.
Haha, glad you like him! I'm kind of enjoying him, too.
He's short, but no shorter than most goblins. He wears ragged gray clothing, but he does have a nice black vest he took from a dead guy in an alley, one time. He has no hair, and his skin is a pale green. His nose and ears are long (again, pretty common for his race), and his eyes are dark brown.
He tries to conceal his weapons beneath his clothing whenever possible. He collects a lot of other odd trinkets and keepsakes, too.
His experience in this city has been that most people despise goblins. He's very slow to trust anyone, but he has learned how to survive in the big city.
You could get both (and you really want agonizing as it's a nice damage boost). You get 2 more invocations at level 2. And, you could retrain the mage armor one to the weapon pact or chain familiar or whatever you want as your 3rd one since you can retrain 1/level as well. Since you can already wear studded leather, it's only a difference of 1 on armor class and, as I said, there are so many great invocations.
I'm wondering for my character if I made a mistake going dex fighter rather than rogue. I think fighter is a little more combat effective but I really have nothing to do with my bonus action. May go with 2 shortswords rather than a scimiar and use my bonus for the 2nd attack to gain another vex.
