Artesia struggles to her feet and leaves the room, post haste.

You leave the room in a haste, luckily the trees can't move unlike the aboreals you fought off, so the moment you leave their reach you are safe. You lay the hunter down, realizing quickly that he is in bad shape. He has stopped breathing and he is close to join with the Lady of Graves.

Artesia closes her eyes, placing her hands over the worst of the warrior's wounds. She concentrates, summoning her healing powers.

Koram stands watch near Artesia, watching and hoping the hunter can be saved.

When he has the opportunity, he begins the ritual to re-summon Haitith - bringing the eidolon forth from the astral plane.

"There you are!" Koram says, relief in his voice.

"I never go far," Haitith says, "I knew you'd find me again."

Koram bends down and wraps his arms around the dragon, who yawns and looks away, feigning indifference.

When they were safely away from the dangerous trees, Iroven gently lowered the hunter as Artesia's healing magic poured over them. "I hope this helps the hunter. Once he recovers, we need to ask, how did he end up in that damned place?"
May 20, 2025 12:44 pm
The hunter comes to life with a gasp and then he starts coughing.

He grabs for a spear, but none can be found. You know it lies next to the tree in the room you saved him from. "Who are you?" he asks, his voice gravelly and hoarse.

"Friends" Tomas grumbles, still eyeing the cursed groove.

"Your companions, the group from Lyuba - we met them and they had concerns you should have returned. We came in search of you, and it looks like we came just in time. Are you alright?"
May 22, 2025 7:23 am
"Dini!" the hunter says, trying to get back up, but stumbles back down, still tired. "We were supposed to clear a path back to our party. When we saw the fiendish trees we were honor bound to strike them down. Last I remember was Suagu struck down."

He looks into the room at the body of the other hunter that died before you could intervene. His eyes close as if he's fighting back tears.

"Thank you for saving me. I owe you a lifedebt."
May 22, 2025 9:33 am
Iroven rested his hand on the shoulder of the hunter, "You may have lost your friends, but other hunters are worried and waiting for you. In face of overwhelming odds, you did the best you could manage. Come, your other companions is waiting for you."
May 22, 2025 11:33 am
"You are welcome, friend. Let us get you back to your people." Koram bows his head politely. "You owe us nothing - as it was upon your honor to strike down those trees, it was ours to render any aid we could muster. I...am sorry we were too late to save the others."

Artesia bites back a reply. She is clearly as upset as the hunter that they were unable to save the others. For her, every death that she is unable to prevent hits home.

The hunter shakes his head. "We have to secure Dini first," he says.

Without waiting for a reply he starts stumbling to the north, into a room where two streams meets to form a shallow pool.

"Up there," he says and points. You see a small shaft in the ceiling that lead 15 feet up to a 3-foot diameter tunnel. You see carved handholds in the shaft, making the climb quite easy. Though you doubt the hunter's ability to make even an easy climb right now.

"Okay. Is Dini another of your companions?" Koram approaches the handholds and tests his weight against them.

You easily climb up into a small intimate shrine. Colorful paintings cover its domed ceiling, and a central glass prism reflects light from multiple tiny air shafts around the cavern.

The paintings in the shrine depict seven Sutaki gods alongside the god callers who summoned them. Many gods are shown with multiple god callers, having been summoned across generations. The gods depicted include a two-headed vulture bear, a gold mammoth spouting fire from three trunks, a feathered moose with flowered antlers, a woolly white rhino with horns cresting its back, a dozen-legged giant ferret, and
an elk with the torso and head of a great owl.

The seventh god is a boar with jutting bone spurs. This boar is depicted alongside a pale figure drawn with demonic features.

Inside two hunters that are kneeling deep in prayer look up at you. As one of them turns you can see an infant resting in one of the hunters' arms.

"This is Dini?" they whisper. "Please don't wake her. Your voices could wake the dead."

She's about to ask another question when the hunter you followed here pulls himself into the room. "Strange place to pick up strays," the hunter not carrying a child says. "I am Eokoe. And who might you be?"

Iroven climbed up and was astonished to see so many depictions of numerous gods. He eyed the depictions, wondering whether their gods really looked like the ones that were drawn, when his attention was drawn away by the question. He turned to the hunter and replied, "We are the people of Broken Tusk. We were exploring the caves when we met some hunters, and they sent us to recover others when we found out about your companion."

"Onak is such a worrier," Eokoe says. "We will return with you. Our prayers have been spoken. Now we just have to hope the gods have listened."

Koram introduces himself and Haitith. "We know some small amount of your people's plight. I hope, too, the gods have listened to your prayers. The figure on the shrine, set aside with the boar-god, is this the one that plague's your home as we speak?"

"Yes, it is Ashen Swale," Eokoe answers. "He has banned the veneration of past god callers and the gods they summoned. He destroyed all shrines. That is why we have to come to worship here."

"I had a vision of Dini here," they motion to the baby in the other hunter's arms. "A vision that he would become a god caller. Ashen Swale allows no other god callers to live, fearing they will usurp his power. Thus I helped Tedanu escape the village with his daughter. We hope there is safety beyond Calamity Cave."

"Sadly her mother, Nukiak, was captured 3 weeks ago," they continue

"She is alive. I know it!" Tedanu says, standing up quickly, waking the baby.

You can see Eokoe give Tedanu a smile, but you can tell that she is less certain.
May 30, 2025 5:09 pm
Artesia looks at her companions. It is obvious that she wants to search for Nukiak, but does not say so, still feeling like an outsider.
