Episode 1: The Salvaged Job

Maenor curses fluently in Elvish, then picks up his shield and moves forward to place himself between Coda and the spearmen. "Stay still, curse you. We can get more shots at them if we hold ground before engaging." He again sets himself behind his shield, with crossbow pointed at the spearmen and shield angled toward the archer. He takes careful aim and prepares to fire as soon as they come into range.

Geno forms up with Maenor, steadying his crossbow for the moment the spearmen come within its range. More subtly, and with a blush of shame at his fear, he tries to put himself between Maenor and the archer for cover.

Daniel steps up behind Maenor and Geno, preparing his blades for when one of the goblinoids gets close enough.

Readying an action to cast Bless once we're able to engage.

The spearmen's path never deviates, closing to a distance of 210 feet. The archer's path continues on its flanking maneuver, and another arrow is pulled back when suddenly the bowstring snaps (natural 1 on attack against Coda, lucky halfling)! With a snarl, the archer draws a longsword and seems ready to turn its horse inward towards the party.

OOC:

Maenor's Readied Action applies, roll an attack with the crossbow at disadvantage due to long range. Daniel's Bless spell would also be cast since this would count as engagement.

Kalis still has a turn to take. Currently the rest of the party has moved up to close the distance to the spearmen, and are 30 feet ahead of the sorcerer.

The bolt zips through the air and appears to strike the hobgoblin, for the spearman suddenly jerks back in pain and struggles to hold onto the reins. Its charge does not falter, however.

As soon as the wounded spearman rights itself in the saddle, it is immediately knocked off backward by another crossbow bolt. The hobgoblin sails off the horse and falls with a clatter to the ground, unmoving.

OOC:

Player turn! Spearman is 210 feet away and closing. Archer is 450 feet away and starting to approach from a different angle.

Kalis' concern is validated as he looks behind the party. 100 feet from the group, in the opposite direction from the spearman, he briefly sees a large shape dart between small scrub, disappearing beneath or behind the plants. It is definitely downwind and moves with near-silence, and appeared to be coming closer.
