Geno gives him a blank stare, as if talking to a horse was the strangest thing he's seen on this journey so far.

It takes time to settle the horses and cool them down after their long gallop, before you can give them water and feed. The horses are healthy and apparently well-kept while in custody of the hobgoblins; likely the militant goblinoids recognize the value of these mounts.

While you wait, you gather what you desire from the bodies of the goblinoids. By now, the sun has reached its apex as you feel ready to resume travel.
OOC:
Consider this time spent as a short rest. You may use any number of Hit Dice to recover hit points, or recover any applicable abilities.

It is up to you how you divvy up the spoils of battle, or who will track what they've found. For those who wish to claim one of the three horses, here are their stats:

Riding Horse
Large beast, unaligned
AC: 10; HP 22; Speed 60 ft.
STR 16 (+3); DEX 10 (+0); CON 12 (+1); INT 2 (-4); WIS 11 (+0); CHA 7 (-2)
Senses: Passive Perception 10
Hooves. Melee Weapon Attack: +2 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 2d4+3 bludgeoning damage.

OOC:
To recap, you are located at the yellow star on this map. What does the party wish to do, or where do you wish to go at this point?

OOC:
I think our plan was to avoid the upcoming tower.

Note to self: remove 1 hit die and recover rolled amount.

OOC:
Where is our destination relative to that spot that the moment? I also recall wanting to avoid the tower.

OOC:
You are at the yellow star, and your destination is the red circle.

"So... we head north off the road and avoid any further tower encounters?"
Dec 23, 2016 5:45 pm
"Sounds like our only real choice if we want to avoid a fight at the tower," Kalis agrees, eyes flicking toward one of the horses, tempted to try his luck riding (though he's never ridden before).

Maenor frowns slightly. "I know we must focus on our mission, but it troubles me that other travelers will be waylaid by these ruffians. Perhaps we could come back and deal with them afterward?"
Dec 23, 2016 11:25 pm
"I guess that would be up to Rhiann, right? We could certainly ask," Kalis says, not too keen on leaving these brigands free to harass people either.
Dec 24, 2016 3:54 pm
Geno's face tightens. "Remember there will be no justice anywhere if we can't help those like Rhiann complete their objectives. If we are killed in a petty squabble, then there are fewer to fight the real battles."
Dec 24, 2016 4:44 pm
Maenor bows his head. "You speak wisdom, my friend. It chafes betimes, but I know my duty is to the world, not to any individual."

Laden with extra equipment and three horses, you continue northwest across the grasslands. You avoid the locations marked on the hobgoblin's map and follow the trail, keeping away from the well-traveled path.

You have been rolling along the small hills and plains for nearly a week, and have reached a point in the path where it turn south to avoid a section of the desert of the Trackless Barren, skirting the edge of the Dreaming Forest. It is also the point where the hobgoblin's map ends, leaving you with only your general knowledge of the area.

Your group has been on the road for over a month. The merchant caravan would have already left, and hopefully you will make the rendezvous on time.
OOC:
Decide amongst yourselves who is riding the horses and who is not. You have reached the point marked by the yellow star, and can either continue to follow the trail or cut eastward across the desert to make yourself a shortcut.

What will you do?

Geno walks alongside the horse riders, happy to allow others the privilege of a ride. As the desert shimmers in the distance, he muses aloud.

"I see no reason to make this journey more difficult. It seems that the road will lead us to our destination on time, so it makes little sense to suffer in the dry and heat."
Dec 27, 2016 4:09 pm
"I agree, the journey is going to be hard enough without trying to take shortcuts," Kalis says from atop his horse, shifting uncomfortably. The knights in tales never mentioned saddle sores... he thinks to himself.
OOC:
Taking a horse if no one cares, Kalis is unused to walking so much

Coda lays on his stomach atop of Maribel, petting her sides as she walks "You know, the road hasn't been exactly an easy stroll. However, I am in agreeance that remaining on the road is still the best course, as the desert lacks things we need for the horses."
OOC:
Were Maenor and I not allowed to doubled up on a horse? Coda is only 40 pounds and a couple inches below 3 feet.

OOC:
Deciding who rides and who doesn't is up to the group.

"You know, Geno, you don't need to walk, I don't take up much room; I can easily ride with one of you to free up a mount." Coda sits up slightly and looks towards Geno with a smile.

Daniel slings his cane over his back and mounts one of the horses.

HypCo says:
"You know, Geno, you don't need to walk, I don't take up much room; I can easily ride with one of you to free up a mount." Coda sits up slightly and looks towards Geno with a smile.
Geno gives a slight grimace.

"Thank you Coda. I appreciate it. I... I've just spent enough time looking down on the world from a comfortable place."

He tries to smile genuinely, but it comes off strained.
