Geno struggles to keep a contemptuous look off of his face. "There's no need to fire on them just yet. Perhaps they are not our foes."

Geno begins walking toward the wreckage slowly, ensuring his companions are not to far behind.

When he is closer he yells out "You there! Might we ask a few of you some questions?"

Maenor stays on his horse and shakes his head. He rides a wide circle around the goblins to the far side, but makes no hostile moves.

Maenor, which way are you riding? Toward the forest, or the desert?

Kalis remains about twenty feet behind Geno and Coda, ready to release his magic at the slightest provocation from the goblins.

As most of the party steps forward, the goblins seem too preoccupied with the wreckage to take notice of you. Geno, Coda, and Kalis are now able to determine that the hunched goblins are actually carrying tiny goblin toddlers, swathed in rags upon their backs.

There is one goblin with white hair, standing to the side and watching over the group. On occasion, they point with their short staff at the wreckage and say something in a harsh, guttural language. This is followed by one of the other goblins moving where indicated and digging through the pieces of wagon.

Geno's call freezes the goblins momentarily. They all turn and look towards the tiefling. There is a brief squeal, a shriek, and the mob begin to scramble about in a panic. You see the white-haired goblin shout at the others, waving their staff and pointing to the desert. Most of the goblins drop what they've collected and begin a mad dash into the wasteland... and panic once again now that they see a mounted elf with what looks like a longbow nearly cutting off their route.

"You don't need to run, we don't want to harm you. We only wish to speak with you, running will only cause problems for everyone. Think of the kids with you, if you run the others will see you as guilty. Please, don't do this." Coda calls out, mostly directed to the white haired one.

OOC:
Make a Persuasion check, Coda.
Jan 10, 2017 5:01 pm
"We mean no harm. All we want to is to learn about this caravan and what happened to it. Can you help us with that?"
OOC:
Aiding Coda on Persuasion, if possible.

OOC:
Sure, Coda can make the check with Advantage.

The white-haired goblin waddles over to the scattered group; you can see that perhaps one leg is shorter than the other. They wave their arms and staff as they call out in a string of gibberish, trying to get the attention of the others while gesturing signs of calm. While it is unclear what exactly was spoken, it seems the goblins have ceased their mad panic. They remain where they are, crouched low with eyes darting about your group, seemingly ready to bolt at the slightest provocation. Some goblins have thin branches from brambles that they wield like clubs, though anyone can plainly see it's more like a demonstration of force than it is an effective weapon.

There is a tense moment before the white-haired one turns slowly to face you. They hold their staff in one hand and while they do not exhibit the wild nervousness of their kin, their eyes definitely show an acute wariness. They stand there, waiting.

"Do any of us even speak goblin?"
Jan 11, 2017 1:12 am
OOC:
Alas, no. Maenor speaks seven other languages, but not that one.
Jan 11, 2017 1:19 am
Coda takes a seat and gestures in front of him to the white-haired goblin, regardless if the goblin sits or not, Coda starts to rub his legs. "Thank you. You wouldn't happen to speak common, would you?" he says with a smile.
Jan 11, 2017 6:16 am
The white-haired goblin watches Coda as the halfling sits on the ground. They do not move to mimic the gesture, but they do not move away, either. Instead, they glance at Geno, back to Coda, and simply say, "Yes."
Jan 11, 2017 6:38 am
Coda looks to where the goblin glances, seeing Geno, he turns back to the goblin and smiles again. "Don't let his looks frighten you, along with me, he was the only one that didn't want to attack you outright. You wouldn't happen to know what happened here, would you?"
Jan 11, 2017 7:18 am
The white-haired goblin listens to Coda, then turns their attention to Kalis, Daniel, and Maenor. They slowly hold their hand out back towards the group of other goblins and makes a "get back" motion. The other goblins oblige, tentatively, each one watching you as they gingerly take a step backward away from your direction.

"Yes," says the white-haired one, the only one having not moved from their spot.

"Your actions aren't giving me a lot of confidence in my decision. I ask you to call back your group, the others in mine may see it as an act of aggression or guilt. Our trip to this location was dangerous at best and when we get here, we see ruin. As you can maybe tell, emotions are high, we..." Coda motions between himself and Geno "We don't want to hurt you, I'm tired, I don't want this to go how you're thinking it may and it doesn't have to. I would appreciate some show of trust from you to ease my mind. What happened here?"
