Episode 1: The Salvaged Job

The magical flame zips between the bars of the portcullis and explodes against the large zombie's chest. The rotted and distended body shudders into motion, and its head lifts up to gaze unblinking at the hallway. It slowly leans forward and with plodding, heavy steps begins to advance towards the portcullis. As it approaches, the sharp metal scrape of a spiked club drags along the floor, clasped in its hand.

Daniel draws his rapier, readying an attack should the zombie nears.

The animated ogre lumbers forward, spiked morningstar screeching metal against the stone. It steps past the shattered table and reaches the portcullis. With its free hand, it grabs the bars and begins to lift, deceased muscle and sinew possessive of unnatural strength.

At that moment, arcane lyrics of cacophonous whispers assault its dead ears, and at the same time Daniel's rapier slips through the portcullis.

The zombie releases its hold on the portcullis, shaking its head and sending drips of rotted flesh and slime scattering about. It backs away from the gateway, stumbling to the far wall.

Daniel thrusts with his rapier once more as the creature retreats.

The zombie's deadened expression shows little reaction, but the jowls of its cheeks flutter as a low moan escapes the cavernous maw.

Kalis casually tosses another bolt of fire at the zombie, trusting in the portcullis to keep them safe.

The radiant flames seem to have no effect on the zombie, but the arcane fire blasts into its chest.

Daniel readies himself by the portcullis.

The ogre zombie seems to shake itself free of whatever enchantment assailed its undead senses, and plods towards the party. It reaches the portcullis just as Daniel's rapier thrusts out and into the large creature's body. With its free hand, the zombie grabs the portcullis and lifts, shoving the metal gate up into the ceiling. A soft, yet discernable click can be heard and the portcullis seems to be secured in place, save for the lower bar that remains exposed.

The ogre zombie takes another step forward, getting up into Daniel's face. Its entrails swing with each step, dripping black ooze across the floor.

With a gasp as the ogre opens the gate and Kalis realizes that the ogre is not confined as the other undead were, Kalis releases some slightly more powerful magic, and three glowing darts of magical force slam into the ogre's chest one after another.
