Episode 1: The Salvaged Job

As the party passes by the shattered door, the creature pauses. It looks into the chamber and stares at the open sarcophagus, empty eye sockets lingering upon the desiccated and nude corpse that stands there.

Another series of modulated wheezing as the creature finds some humor somewhere. "Simply marvelous," it says, seemingly to itself, and resumes its slow shuffling walk to follow Coda.

The party takes the stairs to the upper level and arrives at the fork. The western tunnel leads to the room that once contained a large overweight zombie, while the northern passage leads to the series of smaller rooms that the party had previously explored.

Coda continues north, while giving a question to the creature "I've been thinking, you seemed to have a pretty solid dominance over that standing bull skeleton but he was too large to fit up the stairs. We encountered a number of small skeletons and zombies throughout, why not use them?"
Sep 15, 2017 4:38 pm
"They lack the intelligence," is the creature's reply.

You all arrive at the room with a carpet of bones, once again scattered across the area thanks to your successful battle against the skeletons. Everything appears as you've left it.

The door to the north enters into the room with a pile of rotted corpses, once zombies. The room to the south still has the robed skeleton whose book and key were recovered by Kalis. The door to the west leads to a hallway.

Coda holds his hand up briefly in front of his face "Blocking sight doesn't seem that mentally taxing." He makes his way to the west door and continues to the door up then through the portcullis.
Sep 15, 2017 9:26 pm
The portcullis is closed.
Sep 15, 2017 9:43 pm
"Forgive me, with all the opening and closing in this maze we've done, I misremembered what we did here with the portcullis." Coda turns from the portcullis and makes his way through the sarcophagus room.

The creature follows Coda, slowly makings its way into the sarcophagus and the carpet of books. When it nears the headless skeleton, the creature chuckles.
Sep 18, 2017 4:51 pm
"Friend of yours?" Coda asks, sarcasm heavily coating his tone.
Sep 18, 2017 4:59 pm
"Never knew her," replies the creature, obliquely.
Sep 18, 2017 5:18 pm
"How do you know it's a her than?" Coda asks, smiling.
Sep 18, 2017 5:38 pm
Maenor sees the corners of the creature's mouth stretch further into a rictus grin. "I was here when she was interred," it says neutrally, almost matter-of-fact, and something about its tone is unsettling.
Sep 18, 2017 6:30 pm
"Why watch her get interred if you don't know her though? She must of been pretty important to be given burial rites, you must've known her a little bit." Coda continues forward as he carries on the conversation.

You all enter the very first chamber of the sepulcher. You step over the skeletons and pieces of shattered armor on the floor, now surrounded by the carvings of eyes.

"You misunderstand, Prince of the Shifting Sands," hisses the creature as it weaves through the minor obstacles. "I was here when she was interred, but I did not know who she was when she was alive. And she was not much of a conversationalist when dead."
Sep 18, 2017 7:27 pm
Coda smiles "Ah yes, simple misunderstanding, mate." He looks at the eye overlooking the door then to the creature and Maenor "Hope you don't mind but I need to speak to my friend in his tongue, he is the brains of the group; Heh, Mr. Books I liked to call him. Any plans? I do not think I can take it on, at least in my current state."
Sep 20, 2017 3:22 pm
"Do we have a choice? We can't let this thing out, can we?" Kalis responds in Elvish.
Sep 20, 2017 4:14 pm
The creature looks between Kalis and Maenor. "Two librarians," it mutters to itself, though its black pupilless eyes linger on Maenor's warrior-like equipment. "Fascinating."
Sep 20, 2017 7:26 pm
"I was under the impression that it can't leave unless we help it, otherwise it's stuck. I was just thinking of leaving but I was wondering if anyone had other thoughts on the matter."
Sep 21, 2017 8:49 am
Maenor says gently, "Remember why we came. We cannot leave with our mission unfulfilled, or we forfeit the goblin's help.
Sep 21, 2017 9:17 am
Coda looks up at the eye again and nods "I didn't mean leave permanently, I meant leave to recoup but you do bring up a thought. It is as favorable as it can get right now, while he's alone... If we leave now, he'll seek or return to his allies, most noticeably the cow skeleton back where we met him." He turns to Kalis and points up at the eye "If you think this is the best course of action, I'm with you."

"I'm unsure if we have a choice," Kalis says, "It will prepare to face us later if we leave now."
OOC:
I just looked back at old posts and found that we've been in this tomb for 7-8 months in real time. I had forgotten about the goblin's quest
