Episode 1: The Salvaged Job

You are all plunged into darkness as the light is concealed. The stone has not moved significantly enough, and the wall appears to be quite thick. Maenor's darkvision shows that the stone has shifted approximately 3 inches from Coda's kick, and he presumes based on a rough hypothesis that these blocks are at least a foot thick.

Kalis stands quite still in the dark, waiting patiently for the light to return. He begins humming softly to himself to the tune of a ballad that he once heard.
Nov 21, 2017 10:31 pm
Maenor returns the light and suggests, "Perhaps if we push together, but slowly? I worry about drawing attention prematurely."
Nov 22, 2017 1:27 am
"That's what you're worry about? I worry that when we push the stone out the wall will come down like a guillotine or, even worse still, as a whole encasing us." Coda looks up at the towering-beyond-vision wall with unease.

OOC:
Anyone can attempt an Intelligence check on the wall to discern the feasibility of Coda's concerns.

Maenor examines the wall.

Maenor lacks the experience with architecture and construction to make an informed decision. However, Kalis can see that as long as the right stones are removed, the wall should not collapse.

Each stone is 2-feet wide and 1-foot tall and are laid in an overlapping sequence. Kalis can tell which stones should be touched and is confident that enough space can be made to crawl through, at least. He is reasonably sure that with more work and more time, a larger space can be cleared to allow people to walk through.

"I think I've got it," Kalis says, turning to the others to explain and pointing out which blocks need to be removed...

OOC:
Which method will you choose: crawl-space or walk-space?

Walk-space, or we'll have to leave Maribel behind

It is chaotic at first, like the proverbial number of chefs around the broth. Kalis contributes, but finds his energy lagging as time goes on and reassigns himself to directing the others. Coda, despite his small size, does his fair share of moving the stones, but eventually his arms begin to grow weak and he instead works to loosen the mortar to make things easier. Maenor works tirelessly, shifting the blocks free and clearing a way.

As the first block is removed, the light reveals what appears to be a wooden wall. You soon realize it is a crate, marked with the faded and scuffed brand of a merchant from Frysor. As more stones are cleared, you can see that you're outside a small storage room filled with containers. Barrels and sacks lie against the unremarkable stone walls, which rise to a plain stone ceiling 10-feet-high. There is a door opposite you.

The work takes the better part of two hours. You now have a portal 5-feet-tall and wide enough to allow passage through. Of course, you also now have a waist-high stack of crates and barrels that bar your way.

Maenor sighs deeply. He suggests, "Perhaps someone should climb over and guard the door while we shift these? I know it is futile to suggest leaving Maribel here, where she can be safe."
Nov 24, 2017 3:04 pm
"I already showed that I'm not much good for physical labor," Kalis says, "I'll go to the other side and keep an eye out."

With that, he climbs over the crates and stands near the door to keep an eye out.
Nov 24, 2017 4:16 pm
Some of the crates are already open, and Kalis can see a variety of non-perishable items: blankets, clothing, small pieces of equipment and tools, as well as a few esoteric items. Other containers are sealed.

The door itself is made of wood and bands of iron, and looks in reasonably good shape. Kalis can tell that the door would open inward.

Maenor begins carefully moving just enough of the crates and the boxes for Maribel to get through. He tries to be as quiet as he can.
