"Un, no. Thank you." Ane says, she is not into gambling, it does not seem a good way to build up the wealth she needs for her family, not long-term.

"How would one know who was winning?" She asks, curious about the process, nonetheless. "Is it just 'pushing'?" She asks, her eyes clearly tracking the color-divide across the street.

"Nah, frog races are more my thing. I can tell who is winning."
Feb 24, 2025 10:28 am
"They bet on frogs?" Ane says, turning to Garrett in surprise. She 'raced' frogs, and crabs and such, as a child, but never thought anyone would take such a thing seriously, the beasts were not what one would call reliable in following direction.

"Ilward is magenta, Lopsy is merrigold," answers the gambler. He gestures toward the shimmering curtain, which is mostly orange-brown. "It looks like Ilward's winning … for now. This could go all afternoon."

"Unfortunately we don't have that sort of time." Ane apologises, sounding genuinely saddened by this. "We have people to see."

Reluctantly she pulls her gaze away from the shimmering fields of magic, looking for a street-sign or anything to indicate the way to the healer where Asha is convalescing. While they have access to the magic sabban, she figures, they may as well use the opportunity to visit a sick friend. Ane has been worried and missing her friend.

Garrett will look at Ane and say "Yes frog races are quite popular and very unpredictable. He will look at the gambler "Could you direct us to the healers good sir?"

The older man nods, and gives you brief directions that seem easy to follow.

The directions indeed are easy to follow, and you end up looking through an open gateway in a tall wall of pale yellow bricks. Inside the gateway is a pleasant-looking blue-tiled patio. On the patio are several wicker egg chairs and chaise longues set among big red-brown ceramic pots that contain small citrus trees.

Asha is lounging on one of the chaise longues. She glances up …

Asha

The babbling of fountains and pools, and the lilting tones of pleasant music can be heard through the open doors and windows of the healing house.

Asha is dressed in a new pristine teal and bronze marbled robe and is likely the cleanest anyone has ever seen her. She looks miles healthier than the last time her companions saw her, when she was dangerously dehydrated from the loss of fluids, so weak she couldn't stand on her own, and covered in all those lost fluids mixed in a slurry with her usual dusty soot. A strength and fullness has returned to her posture and complexion, in fact it's almost shocking to see what was hidden under those layers of dirt. The red in her black hair catches the sun much more than before.

Her expression on the other hand is less appealing ... "It's about time!" she sneers, her temper obviously triggered at the moment. "They were just talking about putting me back in the ice pool if I stayed any longer!" She's too angry to admit it right now, but she was very thankful for the healing house service and despite the ice baths, there had also been some hot springs and lava stone treatments that had soothed her soul.

"Look at this!" she gestures to her new robes as she gets up to join the others. "This is going to be useless back in Erare. It won't last a week before it tears. They burned my nice sturdy vestments! For everyone else's safety, they said, ... a simple wash would have been fine," she grumbles. The new robe was a gift from the healing house after they destroyed her previous clothes, but were definitely not made with long-term use in mind.

After a big exasperated sigh, she seems to cool off a bit. Venting about her woes seems to have eased her temper. "Sorry, I'm feeling much better than when I was sick ... " She can't help but smile a little to see her companions again, particularly her friend Ane who she embraces, "How are things going for you two?"

Ane is a little shocked by the vitriol. It is not like Asha was a prisoner here. But Ane sometimes forgets how dependant the girl is on her for basic things, like she has never had to take care of herself.

"I'm sorry." Ane says completely genuinely. "We needed an excuse to get in here and this was the first time we could make it. I'm glad they are willing to let you go, we have a small job in this saban and could always use your skills."

Ane does not comment on how a nice, cold bath would be welcome, her friend does not seem to like the water as much as she does.

"It looks nice, though." Ane says about the new robe, she is still in the same one from the last time —though it has been washed... several times. "We will see what we can do if this one gets burned. Maybe just try and be more careful?" She says, knowing it will not help. "We could trade?" She says, eyeing the swirling colors a little jealously.

No one else got sick (life-long exposure to germs), and Ane wonders if she should ask the healers about medicine, for in case.

"Nice to see you up and around at least you are still alive and well again. Those fancy digs probably won't to fancy for long. Let's get this job done and get out of here. I think the magic is starting to make my skin tingle." Garrett will turn to move out then remembers."We had some chili peppers following us. So keep your eyes open."

Asha
Catching up with her friends calms Asha's mood and she recognizies that her tempered had flared too easily and at the wrong people, making her feel a tinge of embarrassment. She was thankful her companions responded compassionately instead of getting defensive.

Hearing Ane's suggestions, Asha agrees, "Yeah, you're probably right. I can probably trade it for something a bit more sturdy. Let's hope I can keep it clean and undamaged until then. No more sewers!" She gives Garrett an accusatory look, although paired with a playful smile to show she's not blaming him for his idea last time. It did get them successfully in and out of the prison after all.

When Garrett brings up the chillies, Asha stops short and looks around, "What! Today? What do they want now?" A bit of anger returns to her eyes as she scans the street.
Feb 27, 2025 6:40 am
"I have no idea what they want." Ane replies wistfully about the Chilli-Peppers. "Wish I knew. They were just watching and following, they didn't approach this time. But we gave them the slip, I don't think they know we are in this sabban." This last part may be mainly wishful thinking, though, but they did lose them before entering. Any telltale magics they might perform will be much harder for Ane to spot amongst all the 'noise' of this ward.

Healing is not really Ane's thing, but it never hurts network, so she thanks the healers and makes a little small-talk on the way out.

On the way there, you encounter a pair of mage amlakkars. They are the classic tall round and short scrawny pair in matching yellow caftans with blue paisley embroidery. They watch you as you approach.

" good afternoon" says the tall one. She's an imposing woman with bleached cornrows. " do you belong here?"
Feb 28, 2025 10:09 am
"Oh yes! Most definitely!" Ane says. It feels like she was always belonged here, but they have two reasons for being here right now: a hospital release and a delivery.

"Thank you, officers." She says. She has always tried to be friendly with the amlakkar, they have a difficult job and don't get a lot of respect. "How has your day been going?"

Asha follows Anemone lead, greeting the amlakkar pleasantly with a smile and wishing them a good day.

"Another day another coin," quips the short scrawny wizard. He smiles. "I see you've been in Samray's healing house?"

"Yes, I'm very thankful, I'm feeling so much better now. What gave it away? My healthy glow?" she replies with a curious smile.
