"I can't believe you are actually eating the food here." Ane says to Jasra, waving the mouth-piece n her hand through the thick air and then offering it to Buruzg to help bring him into the conversation.

Garrett nods "A boat does sound like a good plan." even though he has never been in any kind of boat before.

After you finish your meal you head down toward the docks. Will you borrow or "borrow" a boat?
Jan 4, 2025 4:06 pm
Garrett always "borrows". He looks at the others "We are going to borrow a boat right? I don't like paying for things I don't need to. I will bring it back." That last part might not be true.

Jas looks over the assortment of vessels until her eye falls on one that's particularly nondescript - well used, minimally maintained but unloved, tired but serviceable, and utterly unremarkable. She rests one hand on Garrett's arm and points with the other. "What do you think of... that one?" she asks, then glances to the rest of her compatriots for their thoughts.

"I am not a boat a guy so as good as any I would say," Looks to the others for their input.

Asha looks to Anemone and Buruzg who both know a lot more about boats than she does.

Ane grew up around here and knows of boats that are too small, or too unreliable to leave the harbour, her sister and she used to use them all the time for joyrides close to the shore. They would not be missed —she is sure her father is out, anyway, and would not object to her borrowing one of the family's derelicts, but she does not want to involve the family if she does not have to.

Besides, she is more than a little high right now, so she is willing to go along with Jasra's suggestion, assuming the girl knows what she is talking about.

You get in the boring little boat. It's a bit crowded but not going to sink, there's a decent amount of gunwale above the water and the harbor is calm.

The setting sunlight sparkles on the water, rose and gold. You wasted a while relaxing at Inki's. Big Zhad might be upset; he said this was an urgent task. You'll worry about that later. Jailbreaks are better at night, anyway.

With Ane directing you, even stoned out of her mind, there's little risk in rowing the boat along the wharfs to the other sabban. You clumsily secure it to a dock and clamber up out of it.

The dock is deserted, there are a few barrels and crates but no workers as it's dinner time and everyone's off work. You can see the lock-up looming up above the other buildings of the sabban, near the wall. Probably a few minutes to walk over there, but then you'll have to get up on the wall again if you want to use the main entrance that opens onto the top of the wall.

What do you do?

Ane hates being high, she doesn't know why she does it. Especially when it will interfere with her clear thinking during a job.

To try to freshen up she makes her way to the front of the boat and leaps smoothly off, head first, into the water, dives deep and —as though she has practiced this— resurfaces at the rear, grabs the rail and pulls herself back in. Her robe clings to her body for a moment, before the breeze (what 'breeze'? it is calm) quickly fills out the fabric and dries it before they reach the dock.

Feeling somewhat better, Ane picks up her head-scarf and tosses it around her close cropped hair.

"Does anyone have a plan to get inside?" She asks. "I assume we don't want to use the front door?" She has not studied the holding cells, not having thought she would ever need to go there.

After getting out of the boat Garrett will say to Ane question. "Maybe we should look low first and work our way up looking for a way to enter." Looking at Asha "Or maybe a little more of that smoke if need be?"
Jan 7, 2025 4:05 am
Asha spends most of the boat ride leaned back staring at the colors of the sunset. She was still dwelling in the relaxation of the indulgence at Inki's. Her mind was less clear but he body felt much better than after the shock.

Back on shore, sneaking towards the lock-up, Asha considers Ane and Garrett's suggestions.

"Best we look for a low level entrance. The smoke will likely catch people's attention, especially after what happened this afternoon. Better to save it as a last resort on the way back out during the escape."
Jan 7, 2025 1:10 pm
"Do you think the guard noticed the rest of us?" Ane asks Buruzg.

"A repeat of the 'smoke' could make it look like it is the Thayans —your 'Chilly Peppers', or Red Cloaks," she adds to Garrett, for clarity, "— who are to blame ... again. They have a reputation as trouble-makers."

Ane has tried to keep a low profile, and going against the guards directly is likely to attract more attention than she is completely comfortable with. May as well turn the mess from earlier in to an advantage.
Jan 8, 2025 5:41 am
Asha holds her head a moment as the possibilities swirl ahead in her head ... Too much Shisha. After pausing a moment, she says "True, although the Thayans might link it to us. Not sure we want them motivated against us further. Regardless, let's save it for the escape side of the job."

Asha furtively peeks around the next alley that heads towards the lower levels of the lock-up looking for an opportunity to get in.

Hoping everyone has a clear mind by now Garrett will search for a low level entry point. Thinking to himself this might go better is the stoners waited outside.
Jan 8, 2025 5:53 pm
What about Garrett's background would help him to find an entry point?
Jan 8, 2025 11:33 pm
His years running with the Ghosts he did a little cat burgling. They would take jobs stealing special documents for important people in a bind.

Garret's cunning and knowledge of buildings guide him to …

a sewer grate in the middle of the plaza that lays at the foot of the lock up. Probably the city storm sewer also is the outlet for whatever foulness the guards and prisoners produce. And probably there is a route that way to enter the building unseen. Though it would be optimal to access the sewers via a less public opening, as this one is quite visible to passersby. At least the first two floors of the donjon do not have any windows overlooking the plaza.
Jan 9, 2025 3:36 pm
Spurred by Garrett's looking low, Ane scans the upper floors for a way in, or, more likely, a way out in case they need it later. She tends to think in terms of more dimensions than others do. Most people don't look up, or think about that plane, but most people don't have the same level of access to 'up' as she does and anything she finds may not prove all that useful for the rest of the group.
Jan 9, 2025 9:58 pm
Ane's perusal of the upper stories indicates there are numerous windows, too large to reasonably open onto prisoners' cells. They must be to the barracks rooms of the amlakkar. Probably not the way to go for a jailbreak?

There is of course the roof, but that's about the furthest in the building that you could possibly get from the basements where the prisoners are locked.
