I have been here a bit and thought I could help out some of the newcomers. I created a campaign, A Tiny Intro, for people new to the site, RPG, and/or play by post. Games looking to recruit can be checked out in the Tavern, including my game.
The campaign is in a fantasy setting and uses TinyD6, a rules lite system that is simple and quick to learn. I typically bring players into the game on their own, though may group them if multiple start at the same time, and walk you through some of the site and TinyD6 mechanics. This lets you post as much or as little as you like. If you are interested you can apply to the game here or just message me. Once you have played through the intro you are welcome to stick around a while, move on, or even help with GMing other newcomers.
If not, no worries, I'll see you around.

PsyberMagi runs the TinyD6 game as an intro to PbP and you don't need to know anything about it to get started. It's a simple system and way easy to learn. PsyberMagi can walk you through everything you need to know about it. Give it a try!

If you want to see how GP functions, here are links to the New GP Member Guide, the forum rules, this video introduction made by user Qralloq and a little helpful formatting guide made by user Adam. You might also be interested in looking through some public games as well to get a feel for the site.
If you have any questions about how to use the site, you can put them into our Questions and Help subforum.
To join a game, keep your eyes on the Games Tavern, where GMs advertise their games and look for players.
You're also invited to join us on the Discord server for some friendly conversation, about the site, RPGs in general or anything else!
