Out of Character and character creation

If we were to go with 2024 rules, would it be just the free/trial rules, or could we use anything in the '24 PHB?

I'm also open for the UA subclasses that was just released

In case of 2024 we need to look through DMG 2024 for the list of magic items, right?

P.S. The only reason I voted 2014 is my experience of 2024 rules causing extra issues to PBP combat with side initiative. Also grapple as opportunity attack possible in 2024 have affected DM's already published enemy turn in my game. Am I overthinking this?

Maybe. If the DM is ok with the 2024 rules, then those aren't issues for them.

I'm fine with any rules. I'm also fine with public, but since I'm new to the forums, I don't know the repercussions of that, so I'll defer to the group.

As far as characters, I'm happy to go with what the group needs and I'll read/research/build around that. Do people have a preference for character building sites/apps, such as DND Beyond, or do y'all just get a blank sheet and consult the Player's Handbook?

There really aren't any repercussions to leaving the game public, unless your game has objectionable material that a casual reader reads and gets upset by.

As for how we build characters, I think we all do it differently. Some people use D&DB, some people just grab a sheet and the PHB and get to work.

My choice atm: Goliath, World Tree Barbarian. (Melee Tank) But I've to take a look at the UA material. Playing a bladesinger with a freak'n longsword is something I'm waiting for about 20+ years now. It will feel glorious!

Make a character sheet with yours character and submit it to the game, then I'll review it and approved it.

Good question. Go with what any published WotC sources you have access to. Its its a weapon we can add its weapon-master ability to it.

Can I ask what people are looking at for concepts? I have a couple of ideas, but I also don't want to create too much overlap.

Can we adapt the backgrounds accordingly to our imagination of our character (within the rules of course)? I would like to try the Lucky-Feat this time.

Besides the background my character is pretty finished as far as I know. Still need a picture. openart.ai isn't what I would recommand to anybody.
