https://gamersplane.com/characters/avatars/31873.jpg?1739084733If dying Manthis heard approaching Arya or even her calling up upon Pelor to heal Manthis, he didn't show it. If he had any thoughts, there were on trying to keep breathing.

There is no shock or much of any indication of healing besides Mathis taking a regular breath. None could see the killing bleeding wounds beneath his armor and such closing. There was plenty of red blood stain about. All his senses now come online with a blinking of his eyes. Manthis is back home again and immediately feel some of what has happened to him as the 5 points of healing only half healed him.

The sudden pain play across is face which is an improvement over the duller look that was taking hold of him. The ghost has abandoned him. An instinctive movement is halted as that went with his face expression. Being that he is home it shows well as his hand reached out to grasp his great sword. His head and eyes quickly scan about a second to take in what is what.

There isn't much to comprehend. He is sprawled porn on the ground with a lot of pain telling him that his last notion of pain must have meant he failed as a guard. He takes in Arya being present meaning she must have done alright without him. The fog is strange but sounds of combat are very real to him. As he takes note of Jonel and even Rosemary tells that the situation could be much worse.

With some suppressed pain, he rises to his feet. He isn't sure of what has happened, but he is sure that there is combat in the fog and him & his party are not in there. Meaning that it is best to take heed and use Arya's shield light to make tracks. He notes that Jonel is carrying Rosemary and she doesn't look good.

With a bit of effort as it seems his voice wasn't right there with him yet, he says in a lower voice, "We need to move." He has a feeling that Arya no doubt has the same idea. He hopes Rosemary has a few breaths left so we may move.

(This action probably is the next round.)

Jonel leans toward Arya and whispers, "what's the plan? I took a heck of a blow out there. One more and there'll be three on our backs." He looks to the West and sees the guy with the big sword rising. He would definitely be needed to escape this hell.

Round four continued...

Arya hurries over to her dying companion Manthis, kneels down, and prays Cure Wounds softly over him. Pelor's might flows through her and into the warrior's battered body. Miraculously, his gaping wounds knit together and his eyes clear again.
Manthis regains 5 HP and is prone, no longer dying.
OOC:
@KidEnnui - It is Jonel's turn. He is maintaining concentration on the Fog Cloud and is holding dying halfling, Rosemary. Like Arya before him, Jonel now sees the boots of Undead Two sticking out of the bottom curve of the vast sphere that is the Fog Cloud, so that if he wanted to, he could attack that one without DISADV. He could also attempt a Medicine check to stabilize Rosemary at 0 HP so she'd no longer by dying. Of course, those are only a couple of things he could do.

20 - Manthis (5/11)
9 - Rosemary (0/13) Dying one success
9- Corpse One, Two (-6), Three, Four Five
6 - Arya (7/10)
1 - Jonel (2/7) concentrating

A surge of hope jolted through Arya as she spotted Manthis. Without a moment's hesitation, she plunged to her knees beside him. Channeling Pelor's miracle, her hands glowed with holy light, staunching the worst of his bleeding. Manthis's eyes fluttered open, his gaze landing on Arya's serene face, a beacon of good in the chaos. "We have to move, now!" she urged, her voice tight with urgency. " Manthis, Jonel, drag Rosemary away from the fog, I will heal her soon enough. We're leaving while we can!"
OOC:
That was my post when she heal Manthis. Thanks.

OOC:
Is Manthis good to do that? He was just on death's door.
"I think we should head north. Travel far enough to not worry about these things. Find some ruin or at least a defendable clearing. Then, we can get the little one stabilised and have more heads to put together so we can make a plan." Jonthus picks up Rosemary, trying his best not to jostle her. He turns and looks north.

OOC:
Since it sounds like there is general agreement that you're leaving - all three conscious characters have suggested it - I'm going to proceed on that premise.
KidEnnui says:

OOC:
Sorry I didn't respond to this yesterday; I was already composing the round four update and ended up cross-posting, so I didn't see this until today. What are you hoping to get from a geography check? Each of you has general knowledge of the region - so you know the directions to follow to reach major landmarks like Hochoch, Orlane, or Hookhill. But none of you are native to the Dim Forest, so specific geography of your immediate surroundings isn't known. Jonel only got lost because he was fleeing the undead before (and barely outran them), but now he has found his way back to familiar ground near the road. No check is needed to use the road. In general, if you're trying to find a different campsite, that will be a WIS (Nature) check.
While the undead are confused and fighting amongst themselves in the fog, the three heroes move away from their campsite, putting some distance between themselves and the threat of attack. Trees and shrubs appear out of the darkness in front of them at the limit of the sphere of light from Arya's shield: a moving island of illumination in the dark of the Dim Forest.

After a few moments, they pause to take stock. There is no sound of pursuit.

Having escaped the dead adventurers, each of the Dungeon Busters here - Rosemary, Manthis, Jonel, and Arya - gains 35 XP.

But you're not out of the woods yet.
OOC:
@DireHalfling - roll another death save while the party is fleeing with you.

The rest of you - will you use Medicine to stabilize Rosemary, or will you use healing magic?
Mar 15, 2025 11:18 pm
OOC:
In reference to Rosemary. Manthis has suggest for Arya to heal her so to avoid death and aid in our escape in the area as it take only 6 seconds to heal her magically. I would imagine that Arya is good with this thought. I believe that Arya probably does have slots available to cast another cure wounds.

Oh. By that way as always, a first combat is a great way to for characters to really bond.

Thoughts further. Manthis is thinking to move on during the night to get distance and then take rest before going back on track. With the rest we can be healed up fully and be ready for what hails in the future.

Winks. Some EXP is always nice. I put a spot in on the character for EXP and put 35 there. :) Unsure if you have a tracking spot running and updating.
Edit: Ack. I found a spot, but it wasn't updated I think. ;)

Arya, her heart still pounding, gathered her scattered belongings near the dying campfire, her armor a heavy burden as she retreated with the party. Once they had put a safe distance between themselves and the undead, she knelt beside Rosemary, her expression a mix of relief and gratitude. "May Pelor's radiant blessing heal you, brave Rosemary," she said, her voice soft as she channeled her healing magic. Despite the blood seeping into her white robes, Arya remained composed. The wounds were painful, but not critical; her life was not in immediate danger.

Once the immediate danger had passed, Arya surveyed her companions, her voice laced with concern. "Is everyone alright? I can still dress wounds and apply bandages. However," she added, her tone weary, "further divine healing will have to wait until morning. My mind is too taxed to channel Pelor's power effectively after so many spells." She then attended to her own injuries, applying a simple bandage. A faint frown creased her brow; her once flawless skin, a gift from Pelor, would now bear a scar unless she healed it magically at dawn.

With Pelor's grace and Arya's ministrations, Rosemary regains 5 HP and comes back to full consciousness in Jonel's arms. The sorcerer quickly sets her back on her feet.

Everyone is up, not in immediate danger, in the Dim Forest in the middle of the night. The three Dungeon Busters Arya, Manthis, and Rosemary, had been sent by their employer from Hochoch to reconnoiter the town of Orlane, to figure out what had happened to the previous team. Jonel had been heading to Hookhill to look for employment. Both Orlane and Hookhill are to the east. Hochoch is to the west. The road leading to all three communities is just a bit further to the south, and the four adventurers can reach the road easily. The campsite, with the fog (Jonel is still concentrating), any remaining undead, Arya's armor and Rosemary's paddle, is back to the north.

What do you do? Where will you go?
Mar 16, 2025 10:06 pm
"I noticed one thing when we were attacked. The undead came from almost every direction, which leads me to think there could be undead all over the place. Not sure if whoever casted this curse did it over the whole area. I think our best bet is to recover as quick as we can, and then keep moving until the sun comes up."
OOC:
Any chance we could short rest?

"Also, my fog won't hold much longer."Jonel stares to the north uncomfortably.

OOC:
I think a short rest to spend HD to heal would be a very good hour.
Mar 17, 2025 1:13 pm
OOC:
Short rest is fine with Arya, then we can reach the road. Arya had the scare of her life, she dont care about her armor, her faith will have to do for now.

Will do. proper post later.

OOC:
You may, but remember that we are using the "Healer's Kit Dependency" rule in this game. So each character would gain the other benefits of a short rest - specifically recovering abilities that refresh with a short rest - but hit dice can't be spent without using a healer's kit.

A healer's kit has 10 uses, and costs ~500 cubs in Hochoch. You could probably get them in Orlane, too, but none of you have been to that village yet.

Previous players in this game have missed this rule, too (it's a long list of variant/optional rules, and I get the feeling that many of them aren't used much in other games!), so I'm willing to say that, as the PCs are trained adventurers (and three of you are already members of Dungeon Busters), your characters would have known the need to stock up on healing supplies. Right now, each one of you can choose to say that you DID purchase a healer's kit in Hochoch when you passed through the town. If you choose to say that you did, deduct 5 eagles from the PC's money and add a healer's kit to your inventory. You can all do this (though only one of you needs to have done it, since there are 10 uses in a healer's kit, and at most the party needs four right now), as long as you can afford it. As an alternative, you could head back to town and buy them in-character when you get there.

From now on, though, you'll need to keep track of healer's kit uses and make sure you keep your characters supplied if you want to use hit dice for healing.

The halfling groans coming to as the group moves away from the campsite. "Arya, thank you so much. I'm sure I'd have been a meal in seconds." She looks around while rubbing her chest where she was sliced by the undead's blade. "We are leaving things behind and I think the night isn't our biggest friend at the moment." She points her finger at one of the larger trees in the area. "It may not be comfortable but perhaps we should rest up there. Besides, with the limbs and leaves for cover, it may save us needing a watch. Then maybe we can try to retrieve our gear in the morning."
Mar 17, 2025 8:40 pm
"My only concern with that plan is being surrounded and having no way out but through. Our choices are rather limited at the moment though."
