Skyscrapers & ... Groundscrapers? (RP)

Ok so this floor is all "open-plan" with cubicles and therefore everything has fallen down by the dark, ground-side windows. No exceptions that Herman can see, before going down to root round in the pile of cubicle and office detritus? Or does he even need to climb out to make this determination (are there any blind spots the the elevator door vantage)? But if he needs to climb out to make this determination he will.

Also and this is a little late, but "Herman" has just had the thought, Hey, did we look for clues on the building directory in the lobby?
OOC:
or was there one? or is this irrelevant? Does this building belong to one particular corporation or is it shared? I mean shifting a building 45 degrees but not destroying it could be symbolic, not coincidental

Did you look at the building directory? Did you notice anything particular about the names? Why does that detail come back to you this time?
Mar 24, 2025 3:08 am
I didn't look at the directory because I was more concerned with trying to catch up to f & a
OOC:
I assume that if there was big corporate signage that I would know whose building this (mainly) is.
Dudes! Did you look at the directory down in the lobby? Did it show anything about specific departments on certain floors? Cos I don't see anything interesting here and maybe the directory might give an idea about what floors might be interesting.

Oopsie, I was ignoring the whole half of the building above us!! Art, Fiona you wanna use your fancy gloves move to where you can look skyward? There might be some corner or outer offices you could see in that direction.
Mar 24, 2025 3:22 am
eeer, the whole upper half of the floor I mean
Mar 24, 2025 3:23 am
Fiona looks at Herman and says, "Huh. Nope, I did not. But I don't care about this building or the mundane humans here. I'm here to find break phenomena, not the PR department, or whatever."

Fiona says this in a way that is not at all sarcastic or hostile. She just says it as if it is a matter of fact. Because for her, it is. You suspect she means no offense, but people skills aren't exactly top of he resume.

"A bunch of regional law and accounting firms," Arthur responds. "Costa Malot, Dewey Cheatham, Yu Am Fook. Nothing special." You aren't sure he's joking.

He adjusts the gecko gloves and squeezes out the door of the elevator, clambering up the vertical wall toward the light. His blade-feet with their diamond grip silicone soles get decent traction on the stucco wall.
Mar 24, 2025 12:46 pm
OOC:
Ooops. I did not understand the direction of the elevator doors. Edit:
Arthur eases out the door onto the 45° inclined "floor". The gecko gloves and blade feet are a little slippery on the commercial-grade office carpet. He's trying to move around the elevator box to see what's topside.
OOC:
Risks:
• falling into the debris against the windows
• losing a glove
• other?

You clamber round the outside of the elevator shaft to the 'top-side', where you can rest. The light from above is bright, making you squint. A helicopter passes overhead... no, not a helicopter or even a bird or a plane, but a butterfly.

Were it not for the glass and frame of the window giving you a clear sense of depth, you would swear it was right in your face, it is so large. Looking close you see it has the beautiful face and body of a person... a human person, since it is proving necessary to make that distinction today.

The butterfly-winged person sees you watching and seems to realise that you are also a person, or at least, human shaped? humanish? humanoid? they can not be sure, nevertheless they fly down to speak to you, but splat against the window —just like a bug. They don't seem to be familiar with 'glass' and look confused by this force-field keeping you apart. They say something that you can not hear through the double-glazed window and gesture for you to come out and join them before flitting away with a graceful backwards somersault.

What do you do?
Mar 24, 2025 2:53 pm
Arthur pulls his walkie talkie on its lanyard up to his mouth. "There are butterfly people here," he informs the crew. "One of them just waved to me through the upper window. It seemed friendly."
Mar 24, 2025 2:54 pm
Arthur considers a moment, then adds, "Should I break the window to get out there and see what it wants? I don't know if we'll understand its language, though."
Mar 24, 2025 4:10 pm
I hate to be a wet blanket, but from the outside, when I tried to enter, there was some other sort of barrier not just the window. That's why my helicopter stunt didn't work. So I wouldn't count on the window just breaking. And then what if the elf thing doesn't speak english or isn't really friendly?
Mar 25, 2025 7:09 pm
"Yeah? That's interesting." Arthur moves back around to the doors of the elevator. "I don't see anything else of interest here. Fi, you got anything on the scans?"
Mar 25, 2025 10:42 pm
Fiona waves her scanner around, detecting nearby anomalous energy levels, but nothing conclusive. "Hmm, uncertain. Based on our encounters down below, however, I’d guess it is one of the office workers transformed by the break. If so, we won’t be able to communicate with it, just as we were unable to with the goblin people. It is possible, though. If you would like to encounter them, I recommend we go up to the roof. "
Mar 26, 2025 12:11 am
It'd be rad to meet a butterfly elf dude. So it sounds like we need to go up one way or another.
Mar 26, 2025 11:14 am
" Good" says Arthur. " Let's climb."
Mar 26, 2025 2:19 pm
Then I head back on to the beanstalk and up to the next floor. I am just going up to the next floor unless somebody has a better idea!
Mar 26, 2025 2:25 pm
Fiona shakes her head No and climbs to the next floor , repeating the procedure .
Mar 27, 2025 3:31 pm
Next floor, same as the last... not much to see from your vantage point in the elevator shaft. Same for the one above that.

The one above that one —they are not numbered, so it is becoming easy to lose track— is completely dark, top and bottom. The glass is broken and rocks and soil have encroached right up close to the elevator shaft, and are easily visible in your torch light.

You all hear the sound of fighting from below, in the caves.

What do you do?
