You counted ... [4 < x < 9] ... goblins, but there may have been two or three times that many outside the cone of your light.

(1) + 3 = 4

Fiona feels some obligation to help Arthur and Herman with their fight, but the fact is, she isn't great with combat, weapons, and other crude behaviors--that's what Arthur is for. She's here for her brain and experience. And before her is what could be the greatest medical advance in history, what Shelley warned us away from attempting in her great Gothic masterpiece. She will bring life to dead tissue!

Fiona laughs like Victor Frankenstein and sets to work. If it takes hours, if it takes all night, she will succeed at this; she will revive these humans, using the tissue from the break salamander, and she will be very careful to retain some of that tissue for future experimentation.

She even allows herself one maniacal laugh while working--muhuhahahah!
OOC:
Yeah, she is gonna do this slowly, no minus! When it occurred to me just how remarkable an achievement this would be, I knew she had to try.

Herman under his breath, "Lets cross our fingers the goblins are in a good mood and happy with us."

• Do you follow after the goblins to deal with the centipede threat? If so: Do you follow at speed, or cautiously and risk falling behind?

There are many dead bodies, some more gruesome than others.
How many are you slathering in salamander goop?
Do you recall, at this time, that they, apparently, beat each other to death?

Herman's instinctive behavior is to follow along as slowly as he can and still hear them.
OOC:
What is the terrain like? Since that will affect how we follow. I mean its dark right? We could be eaten by a groo. I assume we have head lamps so we don't have to hang on to flashlights and climb at the same time.

Fiona recognizes that she could spend a great deal of time here, and she knows that breaks are time limited. So she chooses to focus on a few that seem as though they would require the least to heal.

As she looks over their bodies, she is given a grim and very visceral reminder that these people beat each other to death! Thus, just like Victor Frankenstein, she restrains the subjects with zipties.

The centipede fled as fast as it could, and it was rather fast —though, thankfully, not directly scaled up from the relative speed of a normal-sized centipede— and the surviving goblins ran to follow it.

Their shrill, garbled, voices are getting indistinct in the dark and windy passages, all alike.

Herman tries to follow the goblins faster so that we don't lose them. He says, "If we don't go faster we are gonna lose them - this might get rough. Any one have a better idea of how to track them?"

"Hold up," Arthur responds to Herman, "it's like you're new on the job or something. You know these things have a time limit. If we fuck around in here we could be stuck forever. We need to find cool shit and get out. More specifically, we need to protect Fiona while she finds cool shit." He pulls back from following the goblins. "Let's get back to our quirky leader."
Apr 4, 2025 10:14 pm
Herman takes a deep breath, thinks "how do we know there isn't cool stuff this way?". Takes another deep breath, says "OK", turns around, then returns to Tibbius.

Fiona has just finished binding the possibly-soon-to-be-resurrected bodies with zipties (which I am pretty sure Mr Frankenstein did not have:) when Arthur and Herman arrive back. Maybe it would have been a good idea from the beginning to have the team's medical officer... um, medic ... on hand for medical experiments, but this is weird science, so who knows.

The salamander took a while to regenerate, and that was with its own cells, so far you can not see anything happening where the foreign cells contact the human ones.

What do you do?
Apr 5, 2025 5:24 pm
Fiona checks her readings of the salamander and the mushroom circle it was sitting in. She makes sure that the energy readings from there are sufficiently similar to the ones here. If not, she makes what alterations she can, like moving the subjects into a light source, etc.

Then she stands, adjusts her goggles, looks at Arthur and Herman, and says, "Whelp, we're beyond the cutting edge here, so I can't accurately predict how long the tissues would need to work, if they will work at all. So let's make a point to circle back here within the hour, ok? Now, was there another area you found that could be interesting?""

It is dark in this cavern, you have not seen any glowing mushrooms in here. But then, you dragged the salamander away from its mushroom nest and it still healed.

Presumably you set up work lights (from your Tech Kit) so you could see, from where you were working on the mushroom, if it started to move?
Do you leave a light source here with the bodies (or do we call them 'the experiments'?):

What do you do?
Apr 6, 2025 4:49 pm
Fiona has not noticed the creatures here to be particularly attracted or repelled by light, so she assumes it is safe to leave a light here. In case the healing is photosensitive in some way. Yes, she did drag the salamander out of the glowing mushroom ring, but they had flashlights, and so on, and she wants to replicate conditions as much as possible. She looks once more over the subjects and then nods to the others and says, "OK, these need time for the cultures to grow and, hopefully, take root in the new tissues. I will need to come back periodically to make further observations. But imagine it! A way to reverse death!! Even if it is only possible in a break, just think of the scientific significance! I could milk this discovery for the rest of my career, perhaps getting a university chair, may own lab... ". Fiona drifts off in her daydream for a moment before returning to reality and gesturing to the others to lead the way.
Apr 6, 2025 5:30 pm
Arthur nods to Herman. "Now that we're fully assembled, please, lead the way," he says. "I'm here for protection and first aid, not direction."
Apr 6, 2025 6:06 pm
"eeerrr, says Herman, I'll go in front but which direction? Do we wanna go back and follow the goblins or what? Cos now we only have a general idea of which way they went. Or should we get back on the bean stalk?
Apr 6, 2025 6:09 pm
"I didn't see the goblins, so I will defer to you two. If you think there is knowledge to be gained, we can follow them. But we may also want to ascend sooner rather than later."
Apr 6, 2025 6:16 pm
Herman: "If you ask me, these goblin things are interesting and we might learn something useful from more contact with them. But I am the new guy and I will respect seniority."
