Haesh sets his sights on the new threat. He yells out to the captain, "Behind you, Captain!"

Running towards the creature, Haesh takes out one of his handaxes and throws it at his new opponent. He then rushes forward to meet this new foe, warhammer and shield at the ready.

Rolls

Handaxe, Thrown - (1d20+6, 1d6+4)

1d20+6 : (7) + 6 = 13

1d6+4 : (4) + 4 = 8

The handaxe whittles through the air and impacts against the creature's carapace, where it embeds with a crack. However, the fish-man doesn't appear to notice the weapon's effects as it leaps down off the weatherdeck next to Captain Yokgrumli. It thrusts with its trident, but the dwarf manages to duck out of the way.

Captain Yokgrumli shouts at the helmsman and draws a cutlass. With a roar, he charges the taller creature and swings twice with the sword. His attacks, unfortunately, are parried as the fish-man brings the blunt end of the trident around to swat the blade aside.

OOC:
Player turn!

Haesh can reach the fish-creature this round as he is now 15' away. Golwen and Jandral are 40' away. Everyone else is 75' away.

Golwen, alert to the new threat, doesn't hesitate. He lets an arcane bolt loose directly at the monstrosity

Rolls

Firebolt - (1D20+6, 1D10)

1D20+6 : (5) + 6 = 11

1D10 : (7) = 7

Parallel turns to see what everyone is looking at. Looking at the monstrosity, he decides to join the fray. As he moves closer, he sheaths his blades and draws his bow.
OOC:
25' closer, ready to shoot next round -- seems a little much to sheath two weapons, ready a bow AND shoot!

Upon seeing the new threat, Tordek immediately charges towards the enormous creature.
OOC:
Using Dash action, now 25' away.

I'll let it go. Roll attack and possible damage for your shortbow
Golwen's blast of fire flares as it strikes the creature's chest. Aside from a blackened scorch mark on the carapace, the creature seems unaffected.

Parallel fires his bow!

Rolls

Range and damage - (1d20+6, 1d6+4)

1d20+6 : (17) + 6 = 23

1d6+4 : (6) + 4 = 10

Is the fishman right up against the railing?
Dec 10, 2016 8:33 pm
OOC:
No, it is basically in the middle of the deck, next to the captain and the wheel. This mid-deck is between the main deck and the aft weatherdeck.

Actions left to take:
Jandral
Rhodrick
Tordek
The arrow embeds itself deep into the carapace armor, and the fish-creature flinches in pain and reels from the impact.

Tordek advances 20 feet up to the creature, holding his shield in front of him, electricity crackling across the surface. "Captain! You may wish to step aside!
OOC:
Holding action to use Thunderwave when everyone's out of melee range.

Rolls

Thunderwave, CON save DC 13 - (2d8)

Still holding fast to his bit of rope, Jandral sends another flare streaking across the deck towards the creature.

Rolls

Fire Bolt, damage - (1d20+7, 1d10)

1d20+7 : (15) + 7 = 22

1d10 : (1) = 1

Jandral's arcane fire finds a part of the creature's neck as it deflects off the carapace. While it looks like the armor took the brunt of the blow, the fish-man reels from the flames.
OOC:
Tordek, just so you know, the helmsman is also there, holding onto the wheel. Will you continue with your held action, or did you want to change it?
Dec 10, 2016 10:00 pm
OOC:
Where is the wheel compared to me, the captain, and the creature? Can I move to a location where the wheel and the helmsman wouldn't be caught in the line of fire?
Dec 10, 2016 10:13 pm
OOC:
The captain and creature are engaged in melee about 5' directly aft from the helmsman and the wheel. You are approaching from the bow, and since you were 25' away you could try to flank to the side. Presumably that would leave the helmsman just out of range of your spell.

Presumably. :)
Dec 10, 2016 10:19 pm
OOC:
In that case, I'll come up beside the captain opposite side the helmsman, which should keep only the creature in the area of effect.
Dec 10, 2016 10:40 pm
OOC:
Follow-up question: Are you now going to cast Thunderwave regardless, or still consider it a Held Action triggered IF the captain moves?
Dec 10, 2016 10:51 pm
OOC:
Regardless. Since no one's absolutely in harm's way, I would go ahead and cast it.

There is a loud and almost-physical crack that resounds from Tordek, and for a moment the cleric is enveloped in an aura bereft of wind and rain as a wave of force expands outward, flinging the storm aside. The shockwave reaches the fish-creature and propels it away from the captain with a thunderous smack.

The fish-man skids to a stop, maintaining its balance, and looks very perturbed.
