Hmmm...humans...doesn't quite make sense..., thinks Parallel, trying to determine what kind of humanoid and in what direction they came and went.

Parallel and Golwen can determine little beyond the initial deduction; bipedal, barefoot, weight averaging somewhere between 150 and 200 pounds, standing approximately 5-foot 6-inches to 6-feet.
OOC:
Give me a Survival check to determine direction.

Looking for broken twigs, cloth on thorns, Parallel attempts to find the direction the attackers ran off.

There are no broken twigs, nor torn cloth snagged on any trees or other plants. It is as if whoever moved through this area touched nothing except their targets.

Golwen and Parallel spend a bit more time studying the tracks, taking care not to muddy the area with their own. As they look around, voice their observations, and bounce theories off each other, Parallel is now able to see where the footprints trace back upon themselves and determine the general direction of approach and retreat. The attackers had come from the north, and now that he knows what to look for, Parallel can easily follow the trail.

The halfling notices something else about the tracks. When they left, the attackers' prints are deeper, as though their weight increased significantly.

It is approximately mid-afternoon. The elderly woman that escorted you here, who had been patiently waiting a good distance away from the scene, finally says, "Um, I'd like to get back to the village before it gets dark. Did you need me to stay?"

As his companions are scouring for tracks and signs, Rhodrick keeps a sharp eye on the treeline for any movement or indication that the party is being watched.

Rhodrick sees nothing out of the ordinary, and hears the song of birds in the area. It is a picturesque and pleasant scene, if one ignores the bloodied farmhouse.

Refocusing on the farmhouse, Parallel tries to determine the sort of weapons used, natural or otherwise.

may I presume the party could find their way back without her?

Parallel doesn't notice much that wasn't already revealed by Golwen, based on the pattern of blood against the wall.
OOC:
You think you can reasonably find your way back. You might need a roll if you decide to try to find your way back in the dark.

Jandral turns to their guide. "Yes, you'd best head back. We can take it from here. But a few quick questions before you do: First, what of those who lived here? What became of them?"
Feb 14, 2017 5:42 pm
The woman says, "The Ottosens. Darick went missing about a week ago after he went to help some of the farms further out. They got attacked and anyone who was there, wasn't the next day. Nina, her boy Adrian, and Darick's parents were planning to move into the village after that, but when they didn't show for a couple of days some folk went to check on them. Found the house like this."
Feb 14, 2017 6:00 pm
"From what we're seeing here something - or someone - was carried off. Is there anything special about the Ottosens? Were they attacked simply because their farmhouse is fairly secluded? Or is there something else we should know?"
Feb 14, 2017 6:14 pm
The woman shakes her head. "We assumed so," she says. "The other homes that were attacked a while back were the same. They're further out.

"A lot of folks are starting to move closer to the main village, but we're running out of room, and we've got the crops to pull in. Without them we won't last long even if we all manage to hole up by the beach.

"Really, if you're able to stop whoever's doing this, we'd be ever so grateful."
Feb 17, 2017 5:21 am
The woman turns and begins to head back to the main road, leaving you with the silent farmhouse. The sun has not yet set, but is definitely lower and starting to cast the wooded area in lengthy and dark shadows. A chill begins to seep through the area.

"I don't know much about these things, but this smells a bit more like slavers than monsters," muses Parallel, "humanoid prints, heavier on the way out as if carrying a load. This would also mean that they have no reason to return to this place.

"I know now what to look for and can track them, but I don't think I can do it at night."

Jandral nods, agreeing with Parallel's assessment. "I suspect the same. I can see in the dark, but am not opposed to spending the night and starting at first light if you prefer."
Feb 17, 2017 2:02 pm
Golwen listens and considers Parallel's words, nodding as he does. ""I can think of many reasons why people may have taken these poor villagers away with them. Slavers are certainly a possibility. Regardless, they need to be tracked and found."

He sighs deeply before concluding with, "Although time is certainly of the essence, and I am eager to get to these people before they can do any more harm, if you think we will move faster and our path will be more true during the light hours, I will wait. Rhevia is also at your disposal if you can use her eyes, Parallel. She hunts well at night."

Haesh has been looking more at the woods than anything else.

"I don't know anything about the world outside of a city... but what I do know is that if I were trying to hunt someone down on in their territory, I wouldn't do it at night. I'd rather move out in the morning."

OOC:
So the consensus is to camp overnight? Are you sleeping outside, or going into the farmhouse?
